His numbers were fantastic! Points per game were the same as in Denver, rebounds were up, 3 point shooting was up, and his turnovers were down! So cray 3K was spot on, Knicks Melo was the best version of Melo overall!

We can set aside Nuggets Melo's stats for now since i think we can both agree that he was a legit superstar during those years.
Regarding his stint in New York--however long or short his stint there was--i do also agree that he had some great years there as well--my main point was that towards the end of his stay there, he already had a dip in production in his last 3 years there; 24.2 in 2014-15, 21.8 in 2015-16, and 22.4 in 2016-17--compared to his 2012-13, 2013-14 seasons where he had about 27-28 ppg and even finished 2nd in the scoring leaders in, i think, 2013-2014. Not to mention he, as wella s Amare (who was also dipping in production) was taking a large chunk of their team's salary, and all of this without much success.
In short, Melo was all flash and no fire, and what flash he did have was slowly getting dimmer. The team was, as i think anyone with a business mind could imagine, ready to move on from Melo.
Not to mention the rumors surrounding the then Linsanity and the subsequent trade of Lin due to what some say was because of Melo not wanting Lin to overshadow him--or somethinf within those lines.
It was no secret that Melo was controvesial back then. The narrative sorrounding him was that, as Billups put it, not a direct quote, Melo was more happy to be putting up high scoring games in losing efforts that for their team to win with him scoring less.

That Kobe VS Melo WCF matchup in 2009 is one of the best... Too bad that's the only time we see them go head to head in the WCF... I know they met in the 1st round when Melo had Iverson but he didn't put up much of a fight in that series until he got Chauncey Billups as his PG the next season
