  • How To Know When You Need New Tires & Does A Penny Really Work To Measure Your Tire Tread Depth?
The condition of your tires has a big effect on your driving safety. The best way to know if your tires are safe to drive on is by measuring the amount of tread they have left on them - their tread depth. If their tread depth is 2/32" or less, your tires are legally bald and therefore dangerous to drive on. In this video, we'll look at how to use an inexpensive tire tread depth gauge to let you know if it's time to replace your tires. And we'll look at how to use a penny to tell you the same thing...and does it really work?

I didn’t know tires were cheapest around Black Friday. I would say my tires are around 5/32 - 6/32. So they should be good until then. Thank you for that information!

I’m going to do the same again this year for my car. My Christmas present to myself!

He's partially right. The best way to check is with a tread gauge. However, most sources say that the next best way is to use a quarter, not a penny.
