I'm sorry, but I am old enough to remember Reagan and his administration during the 80's. He started a lot of this crap. He allowed the Fundamentalist Evangelical Christians (Jerry Falwell and the Moral Majority) into the White House, he had a huge military buildup, started de-regulation, blew up the debt and deficits, gave tax breaks to Corps and Rich, Iran-Contra, "Reaganomics", War on Drugs, started the de-funding of public schools, didn't do anything regarding HIV/AIDS until Nancy's friend Rock Hudson died, and allowed some of the GOP to start with the division of the public.
He was NO Moderate, he was Right wing and maybe not as bad as some today. But he leaned right hard on his policies. Trump and MAGA is the end result of the things Reagan set in motion 40 years ago.

Deregulation (as a pure ideology) and small government (as a pure ideology) are a large part of the deterioration of the overall situation in America. There is no political ideology that will be effective in dealing with reality and all political parties have to keep adapting. Government, business and the individual citizen have to be kept in balance (which is impossible, but still it has to be attempted as best as can be). One of those goes out of balance.....then you've got major, major problems.

Suddenly in the '80s I could cut hair, fix transmissions and run a daycare, without certification, all out of my home garage. That could not only bring those trades into disrepute, but also affect people's trust in expertise, in a broader sense. Say, for example, specialist institutions become viewed with such skepticism and mistrust that voters are left to decide the fate of something or someone, without the benefit of an informed opinion.

I also felt like as a kid despite all of these problems happening in the world back then I also felt that there was a chance to do something exciting and something that actually had meaning to it and to feel useful for something but I don't see that same optimism now but the opposite as everyone just seems to be more cynical and want's to put everyone down just so they feel better about it. A different America than what I remember as a kid. We also had better movies back then and music that inspired hope as well instead of well I don't know what kind of inspiration there is for kids now. Fact: Ronald Reagan was an actor who was heavily financed by military corporations & when Reagan took office the budget for the military inflated exponentially. Reagan is accused of extreme interference with developing countries who wanted to choose either democracy or socialism - both systems of government that would have made the price of oil, gas and other resources increase. Genocide in Guatemala, the Iran contra affair in Nicaragua, just two examples. The possession of guns also accelerated due to the lack of regulation during his term. At Woodstock, 1969, when Reagan was just Governor of California, this song was sung in his honor, “He’s a drugstore gun toting man, he’s the head of the ku klux klan. When trouble comes rolling around, you’ll be lucky to get out of town. He don’t like resistance I know, cause he said it last night on a big TV show, he’s an all night singer in a country band, & if you don’t like him, you don’t understand”

Considering her father who declared "if it takes a bloodbath, let's get it over with" as well as the nuggets “A hippie is someone who looks like Tarzan, walks like Jane and smells like Cheetah.” hired T.K. Jones to emote: "Dig a hole, cover it with a couple of doors and then throw three feet of dirt on top. . . . It's the dirt that does it. . . . . If there are enough shovels to go around, everybody's going to make it." This bit of cheery advice was offered by Thomas K. ("T.K.") Jones, Deputy Undersecretary of Defense for Research and Engineering, Strategic and Theater Nuclear Forces in a 1982 interview with Robert Scheer of The Los Angeles Times.
And it wasn't just what Ronald Reagan said, it was what he didn't say about AIDS, weapons for Contras, cocaine and Kissinger. After the invasion of Grenada, Reagan decided to take on Cuba, now is the time for your tears Bob Dylan wrote.

No, they are standing up for the concept that a person is considered innocent - meaning they retain all of their rights, including to run for office - UNTIL proven guilty in a court of law. Until,, and unless, that happens AND the conviction goes before the SCOTUS, and they agree to hear it, to preserve impartiality, and to avoid having to recuse themselves, they make NO inference of guilt or innocence in matters (criminal or civil) before the lower courts and answer only the points of law before the court. In Colorado the question is whether or not a person not convicted of insurrection can be barred from the ballot.
Likewise, an appeals court ruling that presidential immunity does not extend to the president once unelected should he be accused of fraudulently attempting of subvert the election, is not expressing an opinion on the guilt of the former president, just on the limits of his priveledge and a reafirmation on the rights of the accused.

I still remember in my small Northern CA town, the day they closed the Community Clinic. Homeless people just wandered around the outside, and camped in front of it, I think, hoping it would open. I have very little fear, and very little anger. Though I don't have much money at all, I am happy with what I have. I also have faith in my country, though not so much in many of it's people. Yet still, there are Americans who I feel we can really look up to, and respect. Maybe that's why I have faith in my country. If one has little to lose, then what is there to fear?
Maybe that's where the problem is. Maybe too many people have too much. If you have a lot, you also have a lot to lose. You end up spending all your time trying to defend it all, and not nearly enough time appreciating what you have, or how you can help others have a good life too.
We are seeing what happens when a generation who had to much for their entire lives behaves. They almost seem like they don't know right from wrong, and they don't seem like they care a bit for others, other than maybe those in their immediate family. Simplify, care about others. Do kindnesses to everyone, including those who you may not agree with. Be glade each morning when you awake for another day, and live it joyfully. If you do these things you won't have to fear, and you won't find yourself angry nearly so often. If enough of you will do this, you will have America back the way it once was. Don't worry. You're going to be fine, and short of some medical catastrophe, so will be the ones you love. And really, even if there is a medical catastrophe, things can still be good. In addition to being poor, I have advanced multiple sclerosis and stage 5 kidney failure from a severe urinary tract infection which almost killed me. I in all likelihood have less that 5 years to live, but that's not the important thing. The important thing is finding ways to make others happy when they are in my presence, to try and find ways to make them happy even when they're not, to care about people, even those I've never met and never will meet, fill my heart with love and try to help others fill theirs, and be glad each day when I wake up that I will have the opportunity to do these things for yet another day. Life is short. Use it well to benefit others in the world, and our great country will be even greater than it ever was, and will be appreciated by everyone. If you do not; if you live your life chasing more almighty dollars, you well be fearful, and angry, and our country and people will suffer for it. All the world will suffer for it.

Sorry for my cruelty. The current amorality of class separation, of Us versus Them, the Era of Greed, had it's seeds in the Reagan years. When W Bush was elected we said, "We survived Reagan, we'll survive Bush." I just don't think we did.

Trump would call Reagan a RINO! He's the one, who define what's a Republican. Totally crazy !

The reality of politics is that 35 years is a long time and parties priorities change. A prime example of this are Democrats. In 1965 not one Democrat voted for the civil rights act, flash forward to 2000 Democrats need the black vote to win.

America was dumb enough to elect Reagen the movie star over a fine man like Jimmy Carter. Duh
