- IN THIS VIDEO WE ATTACK THE ROT HOLE IN THE GQ PATROL, THIS CANCER HAS BEEN EATING AWAY AT THE ROOF FOR WAY TO LONG AND I HAD TO STOP IT! BUT MUCH LIKE AN ICEBERG YOU CAN ONLY SEE 10 PERCENT OF RUST AND THIS IS A PERFECT EXAMPLE! STOKED I WENT AS FAR AS I DID WITH IT!

Decided we are gonna run it without a drip rail, I think it really modernises the patrol and I’m in love with the look! Chuck a like if you agree!! P.s. sorry for all the talking, this video took around 20 hours to do so I was just updating every now and again and wasn’t filming much of the work itself! Thanks
100% man looks clean as without
He man idk how this happened but I’ve been following your build and I brought a identical ute to yours about a week before your first vid and I’ve just finished my body work( removing dents, and rust) and I’m almost thinking of chopping my gutters of it looks that good
Archie, I think it really modernises the body of it! I reckon do it!!
Archie Hurley massive job hey!! I’m doing a GU s4 ground up rebuild and slipping in a turbo LS2. Just finished tearing most of it down! What colour you gonna paint it?
Ooft that sounds minty fresh! I’m gonna paint this a dark grey!
Just seeing how the roof and gutter is folded helped me heaps. Cheers
Awesome!! Thanks Erin!
thorough man! good to see - psyching myself up for my 1988 troopy rust fix. good to explain the process so keep talking mate!
Good work mate👌🏽 it will all be revealed when it has a coat of paint on it👌🏽👌🏽
Thanks lochie! 😊
Really needed a video like this to be posted on CZcams! I have a similar issue on my 89 Maverick and it really killed my motivation for working on the car. After this though its like a kick up the arse to keep moving forward with the build. Great videos man, keep it up.
Thanks for the comment mate! Much appreciated and goodluck with the maverick!
Great video mate, very informative and much appreciated as I'll need to tackle the same thing eventually. Looking forward to part 2
Thanks mate!!
That's pretty great really. I have the same problem on my truck, and this is the first really good video on how to attack it I've found.
If you want to protect this car and be definitively efficient against rust , you should put grease everywhere. grease is the only thing very efficient against rust. put grease between metal and carpet, inside door, behind metallic bumper, under the vehicle, behind the repairs you can make (everywhere inside the body - hidden erea - instead of using paint), hollow areas (necessarily hidden, so no need to be aesthetic). For rear wings unreachable with a paintbrush, use an extender and pour old oil everywhere each year. Rust almost always comes from the inside and welds. Handyman Experience - 35 years. From france
Legend keep at it mate, coming along nicely. 🙌🏾🙌🏾
Thanks Brendan!!
great job, bro. enjoyed it
Thanks mate!
dont mean to burst ya bubble dude but bog is a porous substance when hard and it will soak up any moisture so its always a good idea to prime before laying bog down otherwise youll have a bogggy rusty mess 1-2 years down the track
Doing a great job, its going to look awesome, love the build 👍
Thanks Matt!
Looks unreal tommy! First crack at it should be proud of yourself mate 🤙
Yew, thanks mate!
Looking Sick man, keep up the great work mate yeeeeww 👌👌
Thank you mate, thanks for watching and commenting!
Love this video mate. You done such a great job! And loved watching you work your way through it. Great video!
Good job mate although as a panel beater myself some of this hurts to watch 😆. Its great your giving it a go though 🤙
What’s your criticism, doing this myself also any tips would be great
@@joeodonnell2176 depends what area of panel beating you're doing but let's say filler work. Mix up more than you think you'll need. Wipe it in from top to bottom then smooth it out horizontally (or with the length of the panel). Also fill it right out, not just splodges here and there, if there many dents or imperfections in the panel fill it like its one. Then when your sanding it with a long sanding board, I think the one I mostly use is about half a foot long but I also have about a foot long board too for longer panels. Try not to rub through the filler as they will become high spots and feather your edges out smooth. I start at 80 grit, then 120 and finish in 180 grit. High fill putty primer will fill 180 grit scratches.
yes mate keep em coming. might be joining the nissan fam soon looking at a d22!.....
Yeww, nissan fam won’t disappoint!
u did a great job ,ate for someone who has never done this before good stuff
Thanks Paul!!
Great video, as always
Chiefs Australia thanks Phil!
Ahh the gq life mate I know the feeling of bad gutters just be glad it’s a Ute
I was saying the other day I’d be stuffed if it was a wagon haha!
I’ve got a wagon and she’s gonna be a lot more work 😂
Nice progress mate 👌
Thanks mate!
oi mate don't know if its to late to say now but with the gutter replace it with an other gutter of an other GQ and weld it on after you have bent and cut it to length to how you want it
You are doing ok just keep your rust repairs low so you can shape with filler if you want a good finish use a block.
Oh good to know! I was trying to keep them perfectly flat! The flap disc can take away so much material so I was trying to be careful with it!
mate again doing a very good job. good on ya mate
Thanks zack!
I wonder if my toyo will better the patrol huh we will never know
Anyway good job mate can’t wait to see if finished and stay safe
Ooft that’s a big call, we might have to pit them against each other! 👌👌
Thanks mate, thanks for the comment!
Roam Lyfe ya welcome mate I like making people feel good and my hilux is my first car/ project doesn’t need much
How did you stop the back side of the welds from rusting
Nice work mate
Thanks Fraser!!
Good on ya man for giving it a crack! Legend!
Thanks mate, haha it’s all about having a crack hey! How else will we learn!
Roam Lyfe yeah totally man! Where are you based? Doing a wicked job on the filming and editing too. It can make the actual job take twice as long then you still got to edit it haha
Man you did a good job, now I have to do mine 😔
hey bro as me being 16 and getting a hand me down gq wags pre much stock from my mother what was your list of equipment bcs i have watched your brothers wagon repair i wanna do it perfect first time and i dont think im close to having the equipment for it bro
hey mate, could you put in the description the names of the stuff ya used with a link where we can get it from.
doing bloody well mate
Thanks Kurt!
You should just shave the drip rails looks better and you need to fix the edge its a bit wave
I gotta tidy up a bit of the edge on both sides! But I think it looks much better!
Replace the whole roof skins?
If I had my time again I Probly would as I have the glass out now aswell! But I think this turned out decent and it’s taught me a lot of skills! 👌
I’d be popping the screen out as it will be bad too
Hey mate! It’s already out! I found two bits but have since fixed them! It’s in the next video 👌
Nice work but cutting and grinding and welding next to uncovered glass isn't good
sean b learnt that the hard way! I actually had no idea and got a bit of welding slag on the glass!! Now I need to get a windscreen 😂😂
what mig welder are you using?
It’s a unimig razor 2000 I think!
First
why dont you just do the work instead of talking about it for 3 and a half hours
Watch the bits you want to watch ya flop
Haha yeah mate, it’s hard to show but there’s hours in between the talking of work, I just kept updating! That one job was about a 20 hour job 😂😓! But yeah probly coulda cut the talking out a bit, sorru mate
Yeah mate just upload 20 hours of welding next time what where ya thinking
😂😂
