Great review. I have owned this model since Christmas. I downsized after getting frustrated with lower speed limits and the weight of other bikes. My last bikes were a Yamaha Super Tenere, ZZR1400, CBR600F, Tiger 955. Whilst I miss the IL4 sound, the 500R feels very light to me after those other bikes, it is very comfortable (I am 6'4), it is very economical (averaging 92mpg despite riding it hard), and it's good fun as you can rag it without worrying about going to prison. The bike does have character and personally I can carry more corner speed on our tight bumpy roads that any of my larger cc bikes, probably bar the 600F. I test rode the 650R and 500R back to back twice. I was very tempted by the 650 for the engine and bigger tyres, but the 500R was the one that made me look back and smile.
That was a really interesting point regarding the comparison between the 650R and 500R. I am considering buying a 500R or a NC750X after my current bike. And just like you, I will miss the inline 4.
I've just bought one as well but as a (downsized from a BMW R Nine T) second bike. I'm 5' 6" and find it a good comfy ride. It looks great and is plenty fast enough for UK roads - handling is brilliant and fuel economy is incredible.
I'm waiting to test out the Kawasaki zx4r when it comes to Europe, hopefully it sparks something in me. Otherwise I'd have to see if the Honda cbr650r or Yamaha R7. If neither of them do it for me I guess i'll just trade my 2018 cb500f in for a new cbr.
After over 40 years of riding and lots of different brands I can say this bike is great for everyday riding. Plenty of usable power, decent rider triangle, and great fuel economy, along with that Honda reliability. I would recommend it to any age group or rider level as an everyday bike.
If I had to sum up the CBR500R in two words it could be those. "Everyday bike." It's been everything I need and nothing I don't. I like that. Some say the glass is half empty, some say it's half full. The engineer says, "That glass is almost twice as big as it needs to be."
I generally don't ride more than a couple of hours, then take a little break and chill, t them hit it again. Me and friends have logged over 500 miles in one day on back roads just enjoying the day and riding.
I've had the previous gen (2019) for 2 years and 15,000 km. It's been absolutely perfect for daily commuting, weekend runs through the country, and even some light "off road" (mainly fire roads). I've gotten 2.5-3.5 L/100km on all tanks of fuel with the average for commutes at 2.5-2.9 and faster highways at 3.1-3.3 L/100km. The power is perfect for around town with lots of low-end from 2000 RPM. Feels very well built, the lighting is excellent, and takes a passenger no problem at all. I only added a different windscreen and a top case for small trips. It's a very neutral bike that's pretty happy doing just about anything.
As an owner of a 2016 I agree with everything you've written. Also got a top case for mine. Bike is a practical, comfortable, everyday commuter with the good looks of a sport bike and a bit of the handling; although it's somewhat soft. That softness feels great on the freeway though where the bike doesn't beat you up nearly as much as a 'real' sportbike. It does lightweight sport touring duties quite well as a result. Done several multi hundred mile trips on mine and always feel relatively fresh at the end of the day.

Great looking bike, spoilt only by the exhaust, which I would swap out for looks as much as sound. I love the feature where the dashboard goes blurry when you hit the speed limit - Honda really do think of everything, eh?

Recycle the slip on day one for a GPR deeptone. Good all around rider. I keep coming back to it a lot and the improvements for 2022 really makes it attractive
I think it is amazing how this 471cc engine works in so many different types of bike. I had a Rebel and I loved it. Once again, another enjoyable review, have fun and ride safe.
I just bought one, love it, being 6'5" my knees just barely touch the front flares and tank, with that being said even us tall guys have no problems riding this bike
I ride a cruiser, and my daughter bought one of these last year. It was surprisingly fun to ride. I hate the mirrors though, and I felt absolutely massive on this bike 🤣
This bike does certainly deserve the CBR name! Looks awesome! The best Motorcycle I ever owned was the Honda CBR Fireblade! The original 900cc one! I would love to own one of these if it compared to that older machine in the handling, performance and braking being a much newer Motorcycle! Great review! Keep them coming!

I think the proposed Honda CL500 could be a nice motorbike for Cyprus. Do they sell Royal Enfield in Cyprus because the 650 Interceptor is a nice motorbike.
I have the cbr 929rr and.i have ninja 650 which its the same engine of this cbr500 parallel twin the ninja it's a lot of fun power wheelie easy to do but the 929 fireblade it's another planet there is no comparison 2 gear hit 190km/h those parallel twin are good commuter but that's all......
Quite interesting to get a Harley rider's experience of a Honda 500, it put a few things into perspective. My favorite bit without a doubt was how impressed you seemed by the brakes. 🙂
I too just bought the Honda a couple of months ago, after owning 3 different Harleys. After over 40 years of riding and tons of brands and styles of bikes, this bike is great for everyday riding. I ride mostly alone now so wanted something mainly for one person. Plenty of power for everyday use, extra weight makes it better on the interstate, and the rider triangle doesn't kill you. Yes, the brakes take some getting used to, but so does the easy shifting and reliability! Great bike for any age and level of rider.
My favorite bit was when Darcy called it a super sport. lol. It's a great bike and I want one but it's more of a tourer-sport - like an A2 compatible starter for a VFR 800. lol. Awesome review nonetheless.

Yes, sportbikes are definitely tuned for speed. I'm not sure I'd ever buy one either. That riding slouch would be hard on you after so many miles. But they are most heartedly made for racing. I'm wondering if twins are becoming more popular now. We get it. You love the front double disc rotors. Honda does put out a quality bike. Thanks, take care. And watch those bees. Get yourself some Alpine motorcycle specific ear plugs. They cut out the wind noise but allow you to hear the engine revs. However you still probably won't hear the exhaust note. I can hear the induction roar on my CB650R which always spurs me on 🏍️💨
Seems a good bike with good performance and the parallel twin should sound pretty good with after market pipes. As you said it handles well too. Reminds me of my red 1982 Honda CB750 in-line four , double overhead cam bike i had many years ago. Good speed and ultra reliable.
A decent little sports bike. Love the snarl from the 180 degree phased crank, much nicer and more distinctive as compared to a 270 degree. Riding position is fairly neutral, even a tall guy like yourself doesn't look cramped on this bike, they've not placed the footpegs too far back. In many ways a 500 twin is the perfect all-round motorcycle.

I went the other way, started on a 125 cruiser and was convinced that was the style for me, first time I got on a more upright bike something clicked and I just felt more in control and comfortable.
I’m in EXACTLY the same situation! Still on my Yamaha XVS 125 but about to do (and pass) my mod 2. So unsure if I want this or an R3 though! Got a feel for the sv650 during my mod 1 and you just have to love the power and throttle response!
Lovely looking bike & looks quality but sports bikes for me are just not my thing,but another great review & im sure this bike would tick all the boxes for quite a novice rider whos just passed their test..Honda quality but for around 6 grand i would just go out & buy the RE for around the same price,looking forward to the next review keep it up people 👍🏍🏍

That Honda CBR500R is a beautiful looking bike and good value for the money and going to be reliable but is not my cup of tea. I am too old for the riding position and do not like stepped seats. I am waitting for the new Honda CL500 Scrambler with the same engine and gearbox that is supposed to come out in late 2022.
Great vid man, loving the A2 bike videos, Got a cb500f with a full black widow system and it completely changes the bike, deffo worth getting the black widow system if you're getting a cbr500r/cb500f
I sat on one today, along with several competitors like the Ninja 650 and GSX-8R, and this is by far my favorite in terms of feel and looks. It feels special and is very comfortable. The Ninja is close, but not as nice IMO. I don't like the sound of 180 P-twins though, so I'll probably get the CBR650R which is basically the same but with a 4 cylinder.
About to get a 500 for my first bike. I love everything about it, but I’m with you on the sound…lawnmower lol. Did you end up making a decision on a bike yet yourself?
bang on with that video, inc the colour , no you do not look silly on that bike at 6 ft 1 . it seems to be a great bike with brakes that will tempt many stoppies .
I've got a full licence but the major thing is cost. In Australia with rego/insurance one of these would come to AUD $10K or a a bit over. So for around $20k, you could get a CB500X and a CB500R for a day out in the twisties. I've had 2 CBR600Rs which were pretty insane. Same performance as my GPZ1100B2 Kawasaki.
Honda’s in the Aussie market are absurdly over priced. Cbr600rr is $28k! More than a litre bike. CBR 500 is thousands of dollars more than a ninja 400 or r3 with no feature weight or power advantage
On holiday last October I walked past one of these, couple of years old, slightly scuffed and an aftermarket exhaust..CBR125R I thought. And then I saw it was a twin. So it wasn't the 300 either. What an absolutely cracking looking bike and carrying no lard in its dimensions. It's certainly piqued my interest, especially as a 2nd hand buy.
Been riding my cb500f for 5 years now, just spanking. It's so much fun I really don't know if I want a bigger bike. Because you can wring this engine out at least (to an extent of course).
Superb review! Like many in the comments, I have the 2019's model. It has regular forks and only one front disc, albeit a larger one. I find the brakes are just adequate, maybe that's why Honda gave it an extra disc. I initially thought the bike has an identity crisis. It looks sporty but not really extreme, in the corner I couldn't keep up with smaller bikes, and on the highway I couldn't keep up with bigger bikes. But then I realize if I just ride alone, it's a perfect motorway commuter and/or entry level sports touring motorcycle. It's fast enough, it's very stable, very comfortable, and the engine's mid range torque is so good I just stick it in 6 gear on the motorway and stay there. No shifting needed to overtake. I could also go through the entire mountain passes in 2nd or 3rd gear.
Mostly because of the economy, as I mostly use mine for commuting. I've sat on the 500 and they seem to be the same size. Performance of course would be a tradeoff and that sweet inline 4 sound but things are tough all over!

Not a sports bike, but a very good bike for someone moving up. Great review. If you don’t want squashed tomatoes, sit back a bit😂 now try a modern 600 at 14,000 rpm 😳. Great bike for what it is though, like all of Honda’s 500 twins.
@@MrDarcy-OlMan we have kids buying liter+ bikes here that have no experience though and many don’t get to get any there’s nothing stopping them from killings themselves on bikes they can’t control. An abysmal six week course isn’t enough.
The irony is, this bike is the butt of every joke in the sport bike scene. Too heavy, too expensive, too lazy, not powerful enough. It's a fantastic machine for what it does. But I think that motor is more suited for the CB bikes, and the Rebel. Fantastic review as usual tho Mr Darcy. This may just be the perfect bike for cruiser riders who want to try their hand at a more aggressive machine. Cheers.
Thanks buddy, yes it’s a good starter. The thing I think a lot of people who have been riding for years don’t understand is that Honda have made it 47hp so that it is A2 compliant. If it had more power then it of course would not be. I think for a young person it’s a great stepping stone so people don’t go and kill themselves from going too fast!
@WhiteSpider125 : No the Duke 390 / RC 390 / Z400 are better options. And if you are an experienced cruiser for years then maybe try a base 2022 MT-09 (cheap, R1 sportsbike level of electonics, 0-60 (2.95 to 3.3 sec sportsbike level), great handling, upright riding position, great torquey engine, 45l top case and windshield touring options). A good MT-09 rider easily keeps up with most sportsbike riders on regular roads with a bike 2 to 3 times cheaper than the top liter sports bikes (that cannot use most of their 200hp on regular roads and need to be reved way higher).
I think, although I might be wrong, that this is the same engine as the other Honda 500cc bikes but with a different tune and mapping. Seeing how not too long ago you reviewed the Rebel 500, how does the engine behaviour compare between those two models?
Yes I believe you are correct, the engine in this has completely different characteristics. It likes to be revved a lot more than the rebel does. Very different in riding style. I would have the rebel because it’s more my cup of tea
Would be nice to have a better TFT display like KTM or Ducati is putting out but it’s a very well built Honda and that also says a lot regardless of the display.
To me the sound is fine as is. Perhaps your earplugs dampen to much. My foam plugs are -38dB, to much..now I use Alpine 🏍 specific plugs and are -19 dB. Wind noise is dampened enough and I hear the engine and intercom way better.
Currently doing my theory test in January and plan to do my A2 in March. I've had a look at this bike in showrooms and I'm pretty much set on this. It's the smaller brother to my Grandads motorbike. The CBR600RR
@@taylorpreston8502 Theory test didn't go out as originally planned and had to rebook and redo it! My A2 course is scheduled for the 14th of this month! I don't know if I'm still going to get a CBR500R, I've been looking at getting a restricted Yamaha R7 and growing into it as I'll be able to do my A license in two years anyway.
I LOVE the looks of sportbikes but hate their ergonomics. Thus im buying a MT09. Sportbike performance with nice ergonomics. Honda makes great bikes tho. Best bike ive owned was a VFR800FI 2001 model.
Perhaps I've been spoiled by the bikes I've owned, but 190kg to 45hp doesn't sound especially great. Especially considering the MT03 weighs ~20kg less, and the 390 Duke weighs ~40kg less.
@@kennypool The N400/Z400 are a bit faster in the top end and lighter, but are a lot more cramped, have much less torque, less stability, worse for two-up riding, burn more fuel, and don't feel as nice. They're perfect if you're after performance above all else, especially as a track bike (although I prefer the R3 for that), but for daily riding and trips, the 500R has its advantages for sure.
@@kennypool N400 is a Civic Coupe Si and the 500R is an Accord Coupe V6. The absolute performance difference is pretty small but the experience is quite different.

If I could only afford around this price I would buy an Royal Enfield interceptor 650, wonderful characterful engine, beautiful classic styling. The Honda is a great bike but lacks character, (I am not particularly into sports bikes so the Honda is not my thing) it is however a great bike just not my cup of tea.
500 isn't exactly a sport bike........ Not saying it isn't... Race fairings,a bit of time you get a reliable "low" cost race bike .... But first impressions NO

@@fearhand12 I (Ol Man) rode the cbr650r a couple of years ago which is pretty similar. Take a look at that review. I can’t remember now precisely tbh. I think it’s fast enough. As they say “It’s better to ride a slower bike fast, than a fast bike slowly “
How does a new Honda sounds? Like an old lawnmower. Jokes aside, this is a nice fast machine, not for beginners with aspirations to become experienced bikers. On the plus side, can buy this with a nice fat loan from the bank, it's not like you will live to return it. I've seen beginners on unrestricted Yamaha R1, or Kawa 600 ninjas, so it is possible to live and enjoy a sports bike, bit it takes a ton of restraint and self control, not the most abundant quality of sport bike buyers.
For track/performance, Ninja... for an all-rounder, the 500R. The 400 is slightly faster and more playful at high revs, but the 500R is more balanced... more grunt down low, much more comfortable, more stable (feels more like a normal "big" bike), better for two-up, better fuel economy and much more range, and just generally feels much more upscale. The Ninja feels a bit toy-like after being on the 500R but that's perfect for a track day bike 😎
@@davidpate6095 Hope it helps, it took me a while to choose between the two 😛 It really depends what you want to use it for and prioritize as they're pretty different bikes. For me all the advantages were in the Honda since it's all the performance I can use on the road but quite a bit better in the real world, especially at nearly 6' tall. It's capable of being very relaxed or a bit wild whereas the Ninja really wants to rev up and play all the time.

I started on a Kawi ZZR250, which was basically a Ninja 250 but with aluminum frame sold in Canada (literally the next year they brought out the new Ninja 250, go figure!). I missed that bike a lot when I moved to bigger bikes (FZ6 and FZ6R) so the 500R was the perfect in-between. Brought back the joy of riding a bike you can really get on and it hardly costs anything to run, but comfortable and enough power 😎 Although I'm planning to replace it with the 500X because there's many unpaved places to explore.
The wind noise is so bad in my helmet I can hear more clear sounds wearing earplugs than I can without. When I don’t wear them all I hear is wind distortion and it’s even worse haha.
2022 KTM RC 390 and Kawasaki Z400 are lighter , faster, (cheaper for the Z400) better handling. For a bit more of the CBR500R you get the 2022 CBR650R also A2 compliant 35kW but upgradable to 75kW on the same bike. For A2 versions among best bikes, Duke 390, RC 390, Z400, MT-07, Tuono 660, RS 660, CBR650R, MT-09. Great A2 track days starter bikes : RC390, Z400, R7 Great A2 daily bikes : Duke 390, MT-07, Tuono Great allrounder A2 bikes : MT-09 and Tuono 660 Factory (both top electronics and the MT-09 comes with a 45l top case). Best value for bike : MT-09 base model unrestricted (119hp, R1 electronics for cheap price)
It's a lower hp middleweight bike. Fits the sports touring category and is not a track bike. It makes more sense to compare it to a ninja 650 but with less power.

I think the proposed Honda CL500 could be a nice motorbike for Cyprus. Do they sell Royal Enfield in Cyprus because the 650 Interceptor is a nice motorbike.
I have the cbr 929rr and.i have ninja 650 which its the same engine of this cbr500 parallel twin the ninja it's a lot of fun power wheelie easy to do but the 929 fireblade it's another planet there is no comparison 2 gear hit 190km/h those parallel twin are good commuter but that's all......

I too just bought the Honda a couple of months ago, after owning 3 different Harleys. After over 40 years of riding and tons of brands and styles of bikes, this bike is great for everyday riding. I ride mostly alone now so wanted something mainly for one person. Plenty of power for everyday use, extra weight makes it better on the interstate, and the rider triangle doesn't kill you. Yes, the brakes take some getting used to, but so does the easy shifting and reliability! Great bike for any age and level of rider.
My favorite bit was when Darcy called it a super sport. lol.
It's a great bike and I want one but it's more of a tourer-sport - like an A2 compatible starter for a VFR 800. lol.

Got the 2016 version. It's super nice. Love it. It's definitely slow after 60mph. But from 0-60 it's pretty fun.

Yes, sportbikes are definitely tuned for speed. I'm not sure I'd ever buy one either. That riding slouch would be hard on you after so many miles.
But they are most heartedly made for racing. I'm wondering if twins are becoming more popular now. We get it. You love the front double disc rotors.

Get yourself some Alpine motorcycle specific ear plugs. They cut out the wind noise but allow you to hear the engine revs. However you still probably won't hear the exhaust note. I can hear the induction roar on my CB650R which always spurs me on 🏍️💨

Seems a good bike with good performance and the parallel twin should sound pretty good with after market pipes. As you said it handles well too. Reminds me of my red 1982 Honda CB750 in-line four , double overhead cam bike i had many years ago. Good speed and ultra reliable.

A decent little sports bike. Love the snarl from the 180 degree phased crank, much nicer and more distinctive as compared to a 270 degree. Riding position is fairly neutral, even a tall guy like yourself doesn't look cramped on this bike, they've not placed the footpegs too far back. In many ways a 500 twin is the perfect all-round motorcycle.

I went the other way, started on a 125 cruiser and was convinced that was the style for me, first time I got on a more upright bike something clicked and I just felt more in control and comfortable.

I’m in EXACTLY the same situation! Still on my Yamaha XVS 125 but about to do (and pass) my mod 2. So unsure if I want this or an R3 though! Got a feel for the sv650 during my mod 1 and you just have to love the power and throttle response!
Lovely looking bike & looks quality but sports bikes for me are just not my thing,but another great review & im sure this bike would tick all the boxes for quite a novice rider whos just passed their test..Honda quality but for around 6 grand i would just go out & buy the RE for around the same price,looking forward to the next review keep it up people 👍🏍🏍

That Honda CBR500R is a beautiful looking bike and good value for the money and going to be reliable but is not my cup of tea.
I am too old for the riding position and do not like stepped seats.
I am waitting for the new Honda CL500 Scrambler with the same engine and gearbox that is supposed to come out in late 2022.

I sat on one today, along with several competitors like the Ninja 650 and GSX-8R, and this is by far my favorite in terms of feel and looks. It feels special and is very comfortable. The Ninja is close, but not as nice IMO. I don't like the sound of 180 P-twins though, so I'll probably get the CBR650R which is basically the same but with a 4 cylinder.
About to get a 500 for my first bike. I love everything about it, but I’m with you on the sound…lawnmower lol. Did you end up making a decision on a bike yet yourself?

7:46 oh god I can't un hear a lawn mower but I saw a video of a leo vince exhaust and it really changes that.
I've got a full licence but the major thing is cost. In Australia with rego/insurance one of these would come to AUD $10K or a a bit over. So for around $20k, you could get a CB500X and a CB500R for a day out in the twisties. I've had 2 CBR600Rs which were pretty insane. Same performance as my GPZ1100B2 Kawasaki.
Honda’s in the Aussie market are absurdly over priced. Cbr600rr is $28k! More than a litre bike. CBR 500 is thousands of dollars more than a ninja 400 or r3 with no feature weight or power advantage
On holiday last October I walked past one of these, couple of years old, slightly scuffed and an aftermarket exhaust..CBR125R I thought. And then I saw it was a twin. So it wasn't the 300 either. What an absolutely cracking looking bike and carrying no lard in its dimensions.
It's certainly piqued my interest, especially as a 2nd hand buy.
Been riding my cb500f for 5 years now, just spanking.
It's so much fun I really don't know if I want a bigger bike. Because you can wring this engine out at least (to an extent of course).
Superb review! Like many in the comments, I have the 2019's model. It has regular forks and only one front disc, albeit a larger one. I find the brakes are just adequate, maybe that's why Honda gave it an extra disc.
I initially thought the bike has an identity crisis. It looks sporty but not really extreme, in the corner I couldn't keep up with smaller bikes, and on the highway I couldn't keep up with bigger bikes. But then I realize if I just ride alone, it's a perfect motorway commuter and/or entry level sports touring motorcycle. It's fast enough, it's very stable, very comfortable, and the engine's mid range torque is so good I just stick it in 6 gear on the motorway and stay there. No shifting needed to overtake. I could also go through the entire mountain passes in 2nd or 3rd gear.

Mostly because of the economy, as I mostly use mine for commuting. I've sat on the 500 and they seem to be the same size. Performance of course would be a tradeoff and that sweet inline 4 sound but things are tough all over!

@@MrDarcy-OlMan we have kids buying liter+ bikes here that have no experience though and many don’t get to get any there’s nothing stopping them from killings themselves on bikes they can’t control. An abysmal six week course isn’t enough.
The irony is, this bike is the butt of every joke in the sport bike scene. Too heavy, too expensive, too lazy, not powerful enough. It's a fantastic machine for what it does. But I think that motor is more suited for the CB bikes, and the Rebel. Fantastic review as usual tho Mr Darcy. This may just be the perfect bike for cruiser riders who want to try their hand at a more aggressive machine. Cheers.
Thanks buddy, yes it’s a good starter. The thing I think a lot of people who have been riding for years don’t understand is that Honda have made it 47hp so that it is A2 compliant. If it had more power then it of course would not be. I think for a young person it’s a great stepping stone so people don’t go and kill themselves from going too fast!

And if you are an experienced cruiser for years then maybe try a base 2022 MT-09 (cheap, R1 sportsbike level of electonics, 0-60 (2.95 to 3.3 sec sportsbike level), great handling, upright riding position, great torquey engine, 45l top case and windshield touring options). A good MT-09 rider easily keeps up with most sportsbike riders on regular roads with a bike 2 to 3 times cheaper than the top liter sports bikes (that cannot use most of their 200hp on regular roads and need to be reved way higher).

I think, although I might be wrong, that this is the same engine as the other Honda 500cc bikes but with a different tune and mapping. Seeing how not too long ago you reviewed the Rebel 500, how does the engine behaviour compare between those two models?
Yes I believe you are correct, the engine in this has completely different characteristics. It likes to be revved a lot more than the rebel does. Very different in riding style. I would have the rebel because it’s more my cup of tea
Would be nice to have a better TFT display like KTM or Ducati is putting out but it’s a very well built Honda and that also says a lot regardless of the display.

To me the sound is fine as is. Perhaps your earplugs dampen to much. My foam plugs are -38dB, to much..now I use Alpine 🏍 specific plugs and are -19 dB. Wind noise is dampened enough and I hear the engine and intercom way better.
That’s a good idea I might get some of those. I also tried riding without earplugs and could not hear the engine over the wind noise

I don't know if I'm still going to get a CBR500R, I've been looking at getting a restricted Yamaha R7 and growing into it as I'll be able to do my A license in two years anyway.

Perhaps I've been spoiled by the bikes I've owned, but 190kg to 45hp doesn't sound especially great. Especially considering the MT03 weighs ~20kg less, and the 390 Duke weighs ~40kg less.
@@kennypool while I see your point, the ninja 400 or the z400 is not sold in Europe anymore.
@@kennypool The N400/Z400 are a bit faster in the top end and lighter, but are a lot more cramped, have much less torque, less stability, worse for two-up riding, burn more fuel, and don't feel as nice. They're perfect if you're after performance above all else, especially as a track bike (although I prefer the R3 for that), but for daily riding and trips, the 500R has its advantages for sure.
@@kennypool N400 is a Civic Coupe Si and the 500R is an Accord Coupe V6. The absolute performance difference is pretty small but the experience is quite different.

The clutch is very light and easy to use. Much easier than driving a manual car. Give it a little bit of practice and you’ll be used to it in no time!

How does a new Honda sounds? Like an old lawnmower. Jokes aside, this is a nice fast machine, not for beginners with aspirations to become experienced bikers. On the plus side, can buy this with a nice fat loan from the bank, it's not like you will live to return it.
I've seen beginners on unrestricted Yamaha R1, or Kawa 600 ninjas, so it is possible to live and enjoy a sports bike, bit it takes a ton of restraint and self control, not the most abundant quality of sport bike buyers.
This one isn’t really that fast, nothing like a fire blade for example. My Harley is just as fast (not in the corners)

For track/performance, Ninja... for an all-rounder, the 500R. The 400 is slightly faster and more playful at high revs, but the 500R is more balanced... more grunt down low, much more comfortable, more stable (feels more like a normal "big" bike), better for two-up, better fuel economy and much more range, and just generally feels much more upscale. The Ninja feels a bit toy-like after being on the 500R but that's perfect for a track day bike 😎

@@davidpate6095 Hope it helps, it took me a while to choose between the two 😛 It really depends what you want to use it for and prioritize as they're pretty different bikes. For me all the advantages were in the Honda since it's all the performance I can use on the road but quite a bit better in the real world, especially at nearly 6' tall. It's capable of being very relaxed or a bit wild whereas the Ninja really wants to rev up and play all the time.

I started on a Kawi ZZR250, which was basically a Ninja 250 but with aluminum frame sold in Canada (literally the next year they brought out the new Ninja 250, go figure!). I missed that bike a lot when I moved to bigger bikes (FZ6 and FZ6R) so the 500R was the perfect in-between. Brought back the joy of riding a bike you can really get on and it hardly costs anything to run, but comfortable and enough power 😎 Although I'm planning to replace it with the 500X because there's many unpaved places to explore.
I think it is dangerous to drive with earplugs or headphones on but I am old school now.
The wind noise is so bad in my helmet I can hear more clear sounds wearing earplugs than I can without. When I don’t wear them all I hear is wind distortion and it’s even worse haha.
Earplugs that block all sound are bad in general, but i think they wear filter plugs. Which filter the noise but let high pitch and voice trough.
Earplugs or lose your hearing that's the choice. Even if it doesn't sound loud that wind noise is doing harm.

2022 KTM RC 390 and Kawasaki Z400 are lighter , faster, (cheaper for the Z400) better handling. For a bit more of the CBR500R you get the 2022 CBR650R also A2 compliant 35kW but upgradable to 75kW on the same bike.
For A2 versions among best bikes, Duke 390, RC 390, Z400, MT-07, Tuono 660, RS 660, CBR650R, MT-09.

Great A2 daily bikes : Duke 390, MT-07, Tuono
Great allrounder A2 bikes : MT-09 and Tuono 660 Factory (both top electronics and the MT-09 comes with a 45l top case).

It's a lower hp middleweight bike. Fits the sports touring category and is not a track bike. It makes more sense to compare it to a ninja 650 but with less power.
