My cat has mega esophagus or had it. It was recommended when he was a kitten to be put down he was a malnourished kitten. We found an article online where someone said that they fed their cat at a slant. She would put the food bowl on the bookshelf and the cat would have to reach up to eat and the food would go down properly. So we decided to try that and we got a vase at the Goodwill and a platter and glued it on top, our cat was able to eat without a problem. When he got bigger we got the cuties boxes and stacked and taped them and put contact paper on the top to put his food bowl on. On the second level he put his feet in the open crevice. At a later visit for a different problem they x-rayed his chest and said they thought it was better but he's still eating at an elevation to be sure. I do give him treats without being up high. I don't listen all the time but I feel like I was directed here, I hope this helps. I don't want to see another cat put down for that problem when there's a solution
I got a fosterkitty, Cactus, whose parents were in crisis so she moved in with me. She was so overweight! She couldn't reach to wash, miscalculated jumps and was overall clumsy. She was my only cat so I could easily managed the food thing. I think the stress of her family had made her eat for comfort even if she is also just food-happy. I was stay-at-home at the time so I went for serving often but only a small amount. I weighed her food to the gram and planned her "extras" as well. After six months she had scaled down her eating, lost weight and was much calmer and happier. I almost cried when she could wash everywhere again, stopped missing jumps and bumping into everything. She's just a much happier cat now and she's not asking for food all the time. She's fed 3 times a day and she looks great. Cactus sends her greetings and a paw of support for the kitty who need to loose weight!❤❤❤
What a handsome kitty. Prayers that he can slim down to a healthier weight. Thanks FFRC for helping him & the new kittens. ❤️🐾

I had a ginger cat that was 28 pounds. Was always “starving “ - very difficult to get to lose weight.
I had a cat with mega esophagus. She had to eat standing up but she developed other issues. She lived 11 years.
