Alexa Gold apparently there is a vocal technique some performers can do that let's them do growly / gravely voices without damaging their voice. Alex Brightman does it on Broadway as Beetlejuice. It would make sense if Nick Kroll does it as well for some of the ones he has to do.

I thought this too. I'm usually pretty good at picking out voices and it sounded almost identical to Lego Batman... but I frantically searched the credits, and could not find his name. Then I went on Wiki and saw it was Kroll. Then found a clip on here of him voicing it (It was an interview with Mullaney and Jennie Slate...who was SUPER annoying..)
I first thought that it was the same guy who does the voice of Otto Mann on The Simpsons (Harry Shearer). Sure sounds like it's inspired by Otto.
