  • The Frontal Plane Spinal Wave!
One of my favourite spinal articulations. It is a movement driven from the spine to wave you side to side, like a seaweed in the ocean.
You may be familiar with the forward backward, ventral dorsal/sagittal plane spinal wave. This wave is a good one to try and tackle after experiencing that wave.
It’s an amazing way to open up the body in regions that may not be familiar to you. Due to this, it can also be tricky to understand and coordinate, since you can’t roll onto the wall like the ventral dorsal wave.
In this video I show you some tips to help understand the motions at different parts of the body.
Understanding how the pelvis, ribs and head can tilt can carry over to many other movements.
Remember it takes time to learn, practice well and enjoy your movement!

Started doing these. Such a wonderful movement. I love the “seaweed” reference 😂

There will be more! Takes a while sometimes as I process my own practice and convert it into content. Stay tuned.

Very cool explanations, thanks. I rwlealized I look so stiff compared to you, even though I thought I was doing well. Practicing in front of mirror does help. I will keep practicing daily, that truly feels great.

Absolutely love this channel. The deconstruction and explanations on how to perform the exercises are great. Thanks so much!

Another great video, thanks. Everything is easier and more fun on the days when there is no pain in our backs :) It's also nice to try and instigate the wave from the tip of the middle finger, you can use trousers to 'graze' and this should help make it homogeneous and, if you listen carefully you will hear a sea like sound coming of the material, make this swooshing ebb and flow in volume smoothly like the tide coming in and out and that is a fantastic indirect cue to indirectly enhance whole body integration. By sheer coincidence I just put up a video using this concept to work on forward folds and shoulder rolls.

Thank you for this! I was not able to understand the movement exactly from other videos available, finally I have unlocked it thanks to ylu! ❤

Good stuff Phaon, getting decent at the isolated movements but sequencing transverse, front, neck waves together feels a bit messy. Would love a video on some tips to sequence different types of spinal waves
