  • Develop pushing strength and complexity with an alternative to planche pushups, 1 arm pushups and handstand pushups.
The 3 point pushup involves organising the body around 3 points of support: the 2 hands and a foot. Using different placement of the extended leg, and the 2 hands, we create interesting positions to explore and develop qualities of strength, proprioception, balance and body organisation.
    01:12 3 point pushup concept
01:58 1st progression: rear leg extended
    03:38 2nd progression: lateral extension
    04:37 3rd progression: laterally across
05:15 4th progression: rear leg extended high
    05:41 5th progression: scorpion tail
    06:33 Archer Variations
    07:53 Scorpion Archer
For each progression, work to a volume of 3 sets of 5 repetitions each with quality before moving onto the next. Quality meaning that there is control of the position throughout as you push up and back.

Yep I’ve made progress but not quite there yet on both sides. Once it clicks when integrating with other patterns I’ll post an update

sometimes variation is so near but also so far, I get stuck often in the same patterns, so this is so valuable for me, these look especially regarding complex movement progressions towards hspu, thank you! also, the distance of the hands close to the feet you mentioned in the beginning is an awesome, easy regulator and instruction as well. What would be prerequisities you would recommend for three points push-up variations? In general, for clients would you recommend first being able to do, say, 10 strict, normal push-ups? Some general rule like 5 Pull-Ups before going to rope work. Obviously one would look from person to person. As I am writing this, the idea of elevating the surface comes to my mind. Anyways thanks a lot for this I will try and see what it does for me and see you in another one.

Hey Aurelius! Thanks! I don’t think you need to have 10 strict push-ups before this work. One could just be working push-ups on knees before trying the first progression. The idea with elevated hands is good, that would make it even easier and accessible to those who can’t do normal push-ups as yet. It’s just another way to progress pushing strength other than the standard push-up. You could mix it in between other pushing work, just to understand that there is more than the standard forms to explore, and strength doesn’t have to be defined by what is most popular.

Great vid, would you have any advices for someone who is struggling with wrist mobility? Making long story short ever since I started climbing year ago and developing some finger/arm strength I feel like Im losing my mobility and getting painful during push based exercised.
