I love how Austin is trying to apply real world physics to a block game where emptying two buckets of water next to eachother creates an infinite water source.

so...could you possibly calculate what would happen if steve, a resident of this calculated minecraft earth, were to come to our earth? other than being akin to a bare fisted tree punching 2 meters tall superman? and possibly how other life would be affected by growing on such a planet.

I'm guessing he'd, uh... explode. The amount of gravitational force he's adapted to is so much higher than what the surface of Earth has that his organs literally wouldn't be able to contain themselves. If I remember correctly, he'd be like a blobfish. Those guys live DEEP, DEEP in the ocean, and when they're down there they look like actually normal fish! But when we bring them up to the surface and study them, the relative lack of pressure makes them look all... well... blobby.

Given that the world doesn’t loop back upon itself, it might not actually be reasonable to assume the world border would actually mark the entire surface area of the planet.
Another way to look at the problem(which is honestly even more absurd), is to use the in game coordinate system to calculate the minimum circumference of the sphere and by extension the minimum radius. Given that the y level does not drop any lower as far as can be determined by the coordinate system no matter how far out you go, you can reasonably say that the curvature of the planet is not enough to produce a change that comes up in the playable area. Thus, you can calculate, based on the precision of the in-game coordinate system and the distance from the edge of the world to the corner, the minimum circumference and radius of the sphere that makes up the planet(assuming a perfect sphere, as an oblate spheroid would actually be an even more absurd situation).

I have an idea for a Minecraft lore theory: If you look at the End dimension, it seems awfully similar to the sky dimension that was going to be added way back when. One problem with that dimension is that there's no bottom, and therefore no way to contain the air in the dimension, like space. So as we see, all the air has been sucked out of the End leaving us with corrupted stone and weird colored structures.

    • Nieroshai
      Nieroshai Před 2 měsíci +2

Space also has no bottom, unless you count the nigh-countless infinitesimally small gravitational centers of every single piece of mass in the cosmos. Where is all the air? Around heavy things.

I would explain floating blocks as held by a weak "magical field", simular to a planet's magnetic field, but powered by all the redstone in a given Minecraft world. This "redstone field" is a little stronger where floating blocks occur by chance as it is not an evenly-distributed field.

No. The upper limit for a Super-Earth is 10 times Earth's mass. Austin's calculations indicate that Minecraft is about 23 times as massive as Earth. It's only half as much if we use blocks rather than the player to calculate gravity, but that's still too massive.

theres one thing that has been bugging me though, you see, in one of your earlier minecraft videos, you said that the nether is somehow a different dimension due to 1 block in the nether being 8 blocks in the overworld.
but, if you get a circle 8 times smaller then another, and then, you rotate both at the same angle, and make 1 line to see how much distance it would rotate, and you would see the line with the larger circle would be longer then the smaller one, even if they rotated the same angle.
this means that you could say that the nether is the overworld's core, just 8 times smaller then the overworld. (this is also based on the fact that both the nether and overworld are circular.)
so yeah, one of your own theories debunked, without doing much of any math.

    • G-ray / The Canator
      G-ray / The Canator Před 3 měsíci

@Bahnsbh why do you think theres bedrock on the bottom of the overworld and bedrock on top of the nether?
it wouldn't be possible for the nether to behave like that because bedrock is unbreakable. it wouldn't collapse.

    • TCD eSports
      TCD eSports Před 3 měsíci

according to Minecraft canon nether is not below overworld, it's a different dimension.

    • Bahnsbh
      Bahnsbh Před 3 měsíci

that doesnt actually disprove the idea that the nether is another dimension, it just makes it plausible that it could be the core of the overworld. id say theres still a reasonable chance either theory is possible, and this certainly isn't a debunking in my eyes.
edit: also, if you assume that gravity behaves as expected, i don't think itd be possible for there to be so much space in the nether if it were at the core of the planet since gravity would probably have collapsed it ordinarily.

I was thinking, if the planet had an extremely strong magnetic fields, given the the core must be so dense. If the floating sections where made of a material which creates a superconductor-like substance that is lifted by the planets strong magnetic field. I don’t know if this is possible, especially because our current attemps at superconductors are ridiculously complex, and have to be chilled to subzero temperatures. Its implausible that such a thing could occur naturally, but if it could, would that be an explanation? I don’t see the floating sections being held up by anything other than magnetism.

Did you know if you breed two horses with speed 2 potions, the heir would actually keep the stats of their parents with the speed 2 potions applied. Meaning that for the next generation's afterwards, so long as you keep splashing speed potions on them, The effect will keep adding up and adding up and adding up and sometimes even multiplying, until your even faster than /effect @s speed 10000000. So no, it's not completely impossible to legitimately head to the world border in pure survival, so long as you have a lot of knowledge about the game.

In older versions of Minecraft, (such as the PS3 version) you can dig through the last level of bedrock and discover that under that layer, it’s just an empty void where you land on nothing yet you’re able to walk around. Kinda like the void in the end but it doesn’t kill you and you can walk there.

Here's another question for you, Austin: is it possible to have an ecosystem similar to the ones in each of the minecraft realms (overworld, nether, and end). The overworld question seems simple, but then you have to take into account unknown prey (ie, mooshrooms) and unknown predators (ie, zombies, endermen, creeper, slime, and other presumably omnivorous/carnivorous lifeforms) which might throw off the entire system

8:10 I think I have an explanation for why these blocks fall slower than the Minecraft player.
The bottom face of every falling block (with the exception of anvils) is 1 meter by 1 meter. The MC player, on the other hand, is only around 1 meter wide by half a meter in width. The block has to push more air out of the way when it falls, but the player falls like an arrow. It's like jumping out of a plane without a parachute vs with a parachute.

Hey Austin, I'd be interested in seeing you do a video on Outer Wilds. It simulates a lot of real-world physics and even uses some concepts from quantum physics, so there are a lot of potential topics you could discuss.
A couple I think could be interesting to explore are: what the Nomai might have specifically designed the sun station to do, or what it would mean for their physics if a star could turn red giant and supernova in just 22 minutes.
Or even how the scale of their solar system might or might not work. The whole system is very small and can be measured in hundreds or thousands of kilometers.
