  • Steve Christie of Vintage Keys Studio demonstrates our Hammond M100 (Model number M102) from 1967.
In the video we see the Hammond as is (through its main amp and reverb amp) and then using a modified output, bypassing the onboard speakers, using an 8 ohm 10 watt resistor as a dummy load, and then out via another resistor to a jack, via a mic splitting transformer (backwards), into the auxiliary input on the C3 preamp, and out into the Leslie 760!
Steve has also wired a Leslie tremolo control switch (also attached to the c3).
For an added growl, we also insert an old converted L100 preaamp into the chain. Hey ho - nothing catches fire in this film so all is good.
Please do not try to connect valve amps together unless you know what you are doing, as there are parts that can cause fires and parts inside that WILL kill you. Dead.
    Mics used are:
Oktava MK012 (x 2) on the Hammond Console, vocal mic Edge Solo (Antelope Audio) and a cheap and cheerful CPC dynamic bass drum mic on the Leslie cab.
Video and Editing by Louisa Revolta of Vintage Keys Studio film department.
Includes a promo film made by Steve in 2003 for his track 'The Tomorrow Pylons' from the album 'Children's Television Themes From A Parallel Dimension'

Video and soundtrack is (C) 2021 Vintage Keys Studio.

You mentioning the lack of earthing reminds me that when my little band actually persuaded a keyboard player to join us, we had our first rehearsal in a deconsecrated church in north London. We set up all our beaten up 1960’s gear and began playing, only to have our new keyboardist somehow connect himself between a vocal mic and his Hammond. It did not end well.

Yeah, Jon Lord (RIP) from Deep Purple used to run his Hammond (C3 or B3) through a divider network on the Hammond A & B outputs with a couple of 1k resistors to get a line level out, then run the output into two Fender twin guitar amps overdriving them like crazy to get that gnarly Hammond sound that he was renowned for. Used to drive the Hammond purists crazy... lel!

It’s a year older than me and looks better 😂. Love the Hammond sound made famous by many. Great video Steve

  • @Clyde_Lewis

Really nice demo! I was just thinking of Emerson or Lord (albeit the L amp without daggers seemed odd) ;-)

Ah, valves! My very favourite technology! You can keep your chips and digitals and micro do-dahs. No, it's the lovely thermionic emission device for me! It's what I understand after years in the TV trade and day-release to tech college. I've even got a couple of City & Guilds certificates you know! Great videos, as always. Cheers!

That sound make me think of Granada Television's World in Action theme. You have got some great sounds from that set up.

Bloody Hell, you're a real life mad professor!!! Bet your wife ran off years ago! All good stuff 👍. I had a L100 with two Leslie 145s in our kitchen as well, my wife hated it, she used to put our wet washing straight out of the washing machine on top of the speakers, I couldn't win and eventually sold it all off 😡. Now we've got a bigger house and I've got a proper work shop, I'm hankering for another L or M.100. Thank you.😎👍
