Shakhtar have a reputation for finding, developing, and selling high quality players from the region but also from South America. Chelseaâa Willian and Manchester Cityâs Fernandinho were both bought by Shakhtar from Brazilian clubs. Henrikh Mkhitaryan spent four seasons at Shaktar before moving to Borussia Dortmund. Other Shakhtar graduates include three times Ukrainian footballer of the year Anatoliy Tymoshchuk, Douglas Costa, now at Juventus on loan from Bayern, and Alex Teixeira, who set a record at the time for the most expensive transfer to a Chinese club when he moved to Jiangsu Suning.

Iâll always be intrigued by Shakhtar. Itâs a real shame we canât see more of them in the UK so when theyâre in the Champions League I always watch & hope they win. As when theyâre knocked out there goes the chance to watch them again until the next season.

Sorry, Portuguese here and not an Arsenal fan but Paulo Fonseca is better suited for Arsenal. Jardim is a one-trick-pony and that was seen in Monaco this year. Remove the best players from an equation and Jardim cannot solve it.
Paulo Fonseca is young and learnt a lot these years in Ukraine. It's seasoned in European football as opposite when he was at Porto. He likes to play in a high pressure football with higher lines. It resembles the geggenpressing from Kopke's Dortmund. And that would fit like a glove in the current Arsenal squad (with a few tweaks).

Shakhtar Donetsk are one of the few clubs in Europe than keep consistency whilst selling top players. Like Arsenal between 2006/07-2012/13, and Southampton between 2013/14-2016/17.

Also would like to see the next step in Paulo Fonseca's career... he's being associated with Benfica right now but I think it would be a waste of his talents like it was in Porto. Fonseca didn't dealt well with pressure of big clubs and now he's more mature and I think he's more than able to take a regular UCL club. Maybe Arsenal?! (looking at the Arsenal team he would have the backbone of the 4x2x3x1 he likes to play)

Hi Simon. Thanks for the suggestion! The trouble with defending is that it happens all over the pitch. Obviously, we break analyses up into attack and defence sometimes for ease of explanation, but most players are doing both most of the time, so from the footballing perspective, it's the same thing really. We can (and should) look at individual defenders more often, but the issue there tends to be the diversity; we can talk about positioning and explain that, but when it comes to tackling itself, it's all quite similar. It's certainly harder to analyse than attacking, but we will put more effort into this side of things! Thanks.

Ananthu Krishnan runners, i.e box to box midfielders that cover a whole lot of ground over a game, are a trendy demand. Three clubs already similar players: Fernandinho, Kante & Keita. Naturally other clubs would want a player like them for themselves given how good they're doing.
Actually Fred does exactly the same what Fernadinho did while in Shakhtar.

Can you talk about Hull City? They have scored 69 goals this season but have conceded just the same. 69 goals puts them tied for 4th for most goals scored and their goal difference is still the 12th best in the league. Why are they only 7 points clear from relegation in 18th place?

I see the Ukrainian PL is formatted in exactly them same way as the Serbian Super League. Why has the league been set out in that way?
Cause war threw ukrainian football way back, clubs in Crimea, Metalurg Donetsk, Dnipro (UEL finalists), Metalist, Metalurg Zaporizha etc. has dissapeared, most of the others have less money and ukrainian players went abroad. That formatting was a way to prevent a complete destruction of a great european league that it was pre-war.
