Sometimes I hold back the urge to weep when I watch your videos. It's not because they make me sad, but because they are so filled with such blessings and joy, and I'm so happy for your family. It's not like life dropped this life in your lap like a free gift, it's what your husband and you worked for because it's what you believe in. It's a beautiful, blessed life that many wish they could have but don't know how to begin. Thank you for sharing the knowledge of how you got to where you are, and for sharing all your days and blessings with us. You are more appreciated than you know.

I'm new to finding the channel, but I've gotta say how much your videos really encourage me to transform my shabby apartment into a comforting and welcoming home. Despite being quite young, I'm unable to work due to a variety of disabilities, and I'm currently relying a lot on my partner and family to support me financially. I'm in the long process of fighting for disability insuance right now and I hope that can shake out soon. I've felt very powerless for most of my life, but recently I've decided to stop waiting for my life to happen and to really lean into everything I actually have control over. And most of that is what I can do with my time, body, and home! Your videos make me believe that I can tame the chaos I'm living in and create a space that gives me energy instead of overwhelming stress. Thank you for sharing a little window into your life and being such a great example for what homemaking can look like :)

Yes! My children are grown adults now, but when they were little we were outside all day. I would let my son have the hose to make mud pits for his trucks lol. He could do that for hours. Miss those days. 😢

Have to admit, summertime is my absolute favourite time of the year! Mind you, I love the other months as well. I love fresh vegetables and fruits, nothing like your own! Summer vacations, outside in the pool, being outdoors more, going barefoot, it’s endless!
Like yourself I just braided my onions and garlic, even had an abundance, that I was fortunate enough to freeze quite a bit and give to my neighbours.
I feel the same way, I tend to have my echo play some of my upbeat music and surprisingly it tends to put a spring in my step and puts me in a better mood to prep and cook my meals. I tend to visit a florist twice a month and get a floral arrangement, tend to mix it with my flowers, have some beautiful peach coloured roses. Also has a wonderful scent.

To touch on the ordinary note - I love how ordinary Victor’s “smash cake” and candle are! With my firstborn I remember feeling almost obligated to buy an expensive tiny cake with the perfect candle to sit on top.
It’s little examples like this that, for me, relieve the pressure to uphold any rules and create my own traditions.
I have lived in Spain for over 20 years and the sheer joy of what is called 'sobremesa' is something to be savoured. Food should be enjoyed, relished, savoured, and part of a family / friends get together.
It brought a smile to my face to share Victor’s first birthday with you all. Happy Birthday Victor 🎉
Simplicity IS sweetest! Mine looks different - I work a corporate job from home and no children by choice. And yet I love where I can relate to you - I love making my home lovely, I love to bake, I love to enjoy the outdoors, and appreciate the “ordinary” 🥰 The days I get to stay at home and indulge in simple life-giving hobbies, I feel most like myself.

Nothing gives me more peace than an ordinary day at home. I no longer feel the need to be out there and constantly traveling. I took my time today and made a fresh peach pie. Every time I look at it cooling on the kitchen counter I feel happy.

Your joy in summer has been an eye opener to me. I really dislike summer. I live in a city so no garden or anything. Summer means bugs and humidity and heat. Just stepping outside to get the mail makes me sweat. I'm always uncomfortable and I feel unpresentable. I long for fall, long sleeves, sweaters, jackets, coming into a warm house from a brisk day outside. But I am beginning to find little things to be thankful for as I wait for a 9 month break from the heat. It's fun to see things from a summer-lover's perspective.

Lisa, I lived in France for two years, and yes, I can attest that they take the rituals surrounding meals and delicious food very seriously. For example, the whole country closes for 1.5 hours (at noon on the dot) for lunch (including schools). The school lunches are incredible, though many children go home and eat lunch prepared by their mothers. I worked at a French high school and I couldn’t believe for two euros that the students got chicken cordon bleu, vegetables, baguette, water served in glasses, and yogurt. For school breakfast, fresh orange juice and croissants. Most of the school meals contain local ingredients. The wonderful conversations accompanied by amazing food were the highlight of my time living there… the fondest memories I have from my time abroad always involve a homemade French meal. Also, it’s so lovely to see people there having un café (espresso) together after work with time moving slowly. Let’s not forget, fresh baguette is essential at every meal, no exceptions :) needless to say, coming back to the American food culture was a huge shock but I try to incorporate these little things into my everyday life as I can.

Some of my favorite memories from growing up are those lazy summer days where we played outside, or hung laundry, or helped my Dad get supper ready.
And those are becoming my favorite memories with my girls - along with reading.

If you’re not familiar with Justine on Early American channel I recommend checking her out. She lives and cooks like it’s 1800 and she’s a Missouri girl like us. She lives in St Genevieve MO. All her receipts are from cookbooks of that time and she cooks over a fireplace or an outdoor oven. It’s just interesting to watch. She doesn’t talk and it’s very peaceful.
Except when she bakes a cake and need to beat the batter 2HOURS LOL! My kids still talk and laugh about that episode.

Your video really touched me today. Seeing your baby enjoy his cake with both fists had me in tears. The joy of childhood before it gets diminished by “shoulds” is so precious. I agree re enjoying the pleasures of communal meals and food. For some reason society is conditioned to see food as such a moral and complicated issue - when it can simply represent fueling the body and bringing families and communities together around the table for simple enjoyment.

My husband took the week off work to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Just now we were sitting by the river like we usually do at the end of the day talking about how next time he takes a week off we are going to focus on extra nice home activities instead of making ourselves busy doing things we never do.
