Dear Jen, thank you for the video, it was really lovely! Our university has this week moved to distance teaching and so I am teaching from home. A lot of my students said that they were feeling stressed out, depressed even and isolated, but I think the classes that we have, videos like yours, even public chats on youtube make us much less isolated than we think. My parents live in another country and there are no more flights from Turkey to there. But even in this situation things like these, even simply messaging each other, really helps. So thank you again, sending you lots of love :)

Even got to see my 92-year-old grandma today, who’s hunkered down and doing fine. The weirdest part for me; though, is the fact that we’re all going through the same experience across 5,000+ miles.

I have been so stresed that the only thing that has helped has been hiking and yes I can still do that as long as I stay away from people. Corona or any other flu in this house will be a disaster. Jen, I have been doing so much stress baking that my jeans are barely fitting me!! We will all emerge from this pandemic much larger people. I am glad you are well. I am homebound home with my husband, boys, and books. I want to read Girl, Woman too. I own Red at the Bone but haven't read it yet. OOO what lovely blooms are out on your walk. I love it. I have been sitting out on my deck each day for fresh air. Agreed. No apocalyptic fiction right now and no movies like that right now. My husband and I have listened to books together. I recently downloaded "Clean Getaway" by Nic Stone to listen to with my son. I am sending you a virtual hug. I know how you feel. We miss our weekly dinner with my in-laws and seeing my other family members. But we will get through this. Stay well, my friend.

Sorry, I listen your video just now... I'm far from my family -10 hours drive- and the border between us is closed (I'm in Canada). It's my birthday today. It was a good day because of facetime and phone call. My son is with me, he work in a facility care for people with autism and he is my hero. Because he has to help me at home also and take care of the course. He is so patient with me, I have ms and sometimes its hard because I'm afraid of everybody coming at my door. The spring is here at least, so I walk with my dog :) You are lucky to be able to read, I lost my concentration in the recents weeks. Thank you for you video, you have the ability to make me stop thinking about.... everything that happen in this place in time. Thank you for your book recommendation.

The Great Pottery Throwdown is one of my absolute favourite shows, I'm so happy you're enjoying it!
New Zealand went into Level 4 lockdown last Wednesday - life indoors is going okay so far, lots of books and board games to get us through, and we've also started rewatching Friends because why not?
One of the smaller less important consequences of this is that the couriers are only delivering essential items - so my copy of The Bass Rock is going to have to wait for the next month...

Regarding the Women’s Prize, I just finished Weather last night. Tiny little thing that took me 11 days to read, such is the state of my concentration. I definitely liked it a lot, but I’m still sorting out my feelings about it. Trying to decide whether Red at the Bone or Djinn Patrol is next. I’m thinking I’ll do the Ann Patchett on audio. That way, even if it’s not stellar, I still have Tom Hanks reading to me and that will be soothing. Girl, Woman, Other is lost somewhere in my house! 😱 I have to find it. Finally, I cannot wait to get my hands on Hamnet! It’ll be a couple weeks yet because it’s got to swim across the pond.
I’m so thrilled you loved The Bass Rock so much! I’m hoping it will arrive this week. That’s the other one I can’t wait to read.

I’m trying to read most of the Women’s Prize long list but have been thwarted by the closure of the libraries which is just super sad. Am reading Queenie at the mo and grabbed The Most Fun we Ever Had from my last Library shift. Sending you lots of love.

Week 2 of shelter in place here in Northern California. Apparently some people are so irresponsible that they are still out hanging out at parks and tennis and basketball courts. Then they get interviewed on the local news and they are just so darn proud of themselves. As if they’ve achieved something grand.
The governor of CA is pissed about that, as most of us are definitely.
It’s a stressful time all around. I’m struggling to find a balance with staying informed and not fueling the stress and anxiety I’m feeling.

Also in self isolation as I live with my parents and don't want to be a risk for them. In the meantime I am surprisingly busy as I am applying for jobs and also study for a test I hope to take in May (if the situation allows). I decided to go on a Corona-news diet, especially all the news about the next worst case scenario and the next. I understand the stress baking, it gives one a certain control, very relaxing. Anyway, thanks for the vlog and please take care of yourself.

hello Jen... In Argentina we've been in total quarantine since friday. We are not allowed to leave our homes at all, only to buy food or go to the pharmacy. I'm struggling quite a lot to keep me sane... I'm in a small house, quarantined with a couple of 70 years old who watch loud telly all day long, so I can't read in peace, only late at night. I can't bake either because we're still having annoying summer temperatures (that's 30°/32°C on average), that also means I can't ventilate the house with fresh air, not even step outside and sit on my front porch because I'll melt down. I had started working out at home a bit but, again too hot, can't be bothered anymore! So, I'm just lying down in front of a noisy fan, relaying on radio/music, films and CZcams to get me distracted... thank you for your vlogs. They are really helpful. Love to you both (I enjoyed seeing a bit of Lola in your end slate!)

I think one experience I had in the supermarket a few days ago sums up my current state. Walking through our local supermarket looking for just our weeks groceries and finding the shelves empty for many ingredients while the intercom played Wild World by Cat Stevens. It’s been quite strange, an emotional rollercoaster. As someone who is still working in the Shipping industry I am confronted daily by the chaotic and isolating situation.

That moment when you space out and forget that everything is in Celsius in the UK...I had a brain fart and went, "but how will these tarts ever cook at only 180 degrees?" XD Those look delicious, and I'm for sure going to try out baking some myself. The last thing I stress baked was challah: I made a plain loaf and a cinnamon sugar loaf.
My husband and I have been doing our walks at odd hours of the night as well--it is very difficult to social distance here in Seattle because too many people are out during daylight hours, though that may change now that our governor has issued a mandatory shelter in place.

Thanks for these videos! It's nice to keep some kind of normalcy while we continue to do the things we love, like reading books. Today Quebec has decided to close all non essential services until April 13. We are not at all at Europe's level of contamination, but our government has put in place severe measures even when we only had 15 declared cases (probably more undeclared, of course). Schools have been closed for more than a week now. Parks are closed. I work in healthcare management and I've been on the front line for more than a week now, but today we decided that it was better for the team and our patients if I staid at home to decrease the number of non clinical personnel on the line. I feel like I am abandoning them, my team, but it is what needs to be done. I can manage what needs to be managed at a distance and it's one more person in back up that can stay healthy just in case. This is a weird situation, I never thought it would happen in my lifetime. And it's not really like what I would have imagined. Keep up the videos to keep our spirits up. And take care of yourself :)

Taking those precautions earlier can only be a good thing; I wish we had done it here. The rest of the UK may be protected by the measures that were put in place last night (I hope so!), but London is two weeks ahead of other parts of the UK with regard to cases, so I fear it's too late for our city. Fingers crossed! x

Hey Jen! Thank goodness for you!
I’m high risk too and have been sitting in my garden with Bert (my dog) on my knee, listening as nature just keeps on keeping on, so beautifully, as it does. Bumblebees, birdsong, butterflies and crows (just to ruin the alliteration!) I’ve made some gorgeous videos and done some interesting macro photography which I wish I could share examples of here (do you have a F/B group??)
Anyway, I’m rambling, of course, with ridiculously meandering sentences, but hey...
Let’s keep healthy (another day down)
Ps I have two daughters and two granddaughters abroad, who are tearing their hair out because of the barriers between us, but I guess five hours on the train is kind of just as bad. One son living with me but having to keep our distance as he’s working split shifts. Life sucks at present but rest assured, we WILL all hug again!
    Lots of love,

I have asthma and there are some inactive spots in my lungs, so I must stay indoors. I live on my own and I have no family left, so I have to go out and do some shopping occasionally, but I managed to stay in between March 24th - April 14th and now I've isolated myself again.
Watching you and looking at your features, I keep thinking they remind me of many old portraits of English nobility I've seen. Do you happen to know who your ancestors were?
I was very emotional about two weeks ago, bursting into tears after watching ads, but I seem to be over it. I've felt irritated rather than emotional this week.
Schools are closed here (in Romania). I am a teacher and there's a lot of uncertainty about what's going to happen after Easter (Easter is... today - today, tomorrow, and the day after). I mean we are going to be in lockdown, but we'll probably have to work from home and we need to find out how. Before the Easter break, I posted lessons and tasks for my students on my blog, but many of them have not sent in their work yet and I have no means of making sure they do.
