One of the most deserved wins in this category. Brenda's performance in ''My Left Foot'' showed us that a Mother's love for her son is always unconditional.

Hello from Ireland, it certainly is not... what you saw was a romanticised view of what it was like. Ireland was horrific back then and was so until the middle of the 90s. We are finding horrors wherever we look and terrible abuse, a mother's love is not guaranteed Mrs Brown was the exception, not the rule.
@@andrewgoodbody2121 Mostly definitely was not the exception. The mothers from the 30s, 40s and 50s raised multiple children by themselves while the men drank the money. You don't know what you're talking about.

Grew up watching her as a nurse in the UK tv show casualty, she had such a loving persona and was not one to be trifled with.

Honestly, i started to watch this film for Daniel Day-Lewis....she gave a terrific performance too & i am glad that the academy identified that too.
She is the first Irish actress to win an oscar (best supporting actress)
and now we cross fingers for Saoirse!

I had never realized Brenda Frickers talent until I saw her appear in Home Alone 2 Lost in New York. Then I went and watched just her, love her! British actresses are the best.
