Tom Cruise was immense as Ron Kovic and definitely deserved an Oscar, it was just dire luck that he was up against Daniel Day-Lewis that particular year. His performance in My Left Foot was not just the best of the year but among the best of all time in my opinion.

What a beautiful speech. He really doesn’t take much credit but gives the inspiration from Brown and his young co-star the bulk of the credit. He always seemed fairly humble, given the enormity of his talent and hard work. And he was a stunningly beautiful man (still is, really).
