    Excellent video on the RF Signal Generator!! I am getting ready to put together a AM/FM elenco radio kit. I can now make a better decision when purchasing one. Thanks and keep up the great videos.

    Thanks Jeff I enjoyed your video. I have had one of these units for almost 50 years as that and a VTVM and a High Voltage Power Supply were my first test equipment. 73 N5UEB

    Thanks for the video! I was given one of these a long time ago, went to use it tonight for essentially the first time and when I put my scope center probe on the output bnc I get no output. Guess I get to do some troubleshooting :( AC power caps to chassis ground confused me for a bit as just disconnecting the scope ground lead I was reading 60 hz.

    Hey Jeff, question about what you mentioned with the 102 vs 102s models. I unrealizingly got one of the 102s models and it is exactly as you described with the RF leakage being a bit all over the place haha. I don't plan to use those front jacks the model adds in, so I just wanted to double check what you said regarding disconnecting them. I popped open the case and it looks like the wires are soldered in as their own branch off. It's a bit tight to get a soldering iron in there, so would just cutting those lines and removing the sockets be sufficient? I was figuring probably would want to put some foil tape where the holes for the added ports would be too. OR, can it be just as good to just get some plugs for those ports to stave off the leakage?
    Appreciate the help and all your in depth videos on these classic devices!

      @jefftranter  Před 2 lety

      Cutting the wires and removing the sockets should be sufficient. Slightly better would be to cover them with something conductive like foil tape or if you can come up with something creative using washers and hardware or sheet metal to cover the holes.

    How do I hook this up to a Tektronix 465M scope to test it? I purchased one because of your video. Tubes checked out OK. Lights up. I cleaned the contacts with Deoxit. What's next? Thank you.

    • @jefftranter
      @jefftranter  Před 8 lety

      +8xlaxx If you set the COARSE ATTEN. to HI and FINE ATTEN. to maximum, the RF OUT output should produce a signal you can see on an oscilloscope. THE MOD. IN/AF OUT jack should also produce a 400 Hz audio signal when the mode is set to INT.MOD/AF OUT.
      If you don't see correct output, there is a troubleshooting section in the manual and voltages on the schematic that you can check against. If you don't have a manual you can download one from sites like mods.dk.
      Good luck, and be aware that there are hazardous voltages when the unit is powered up, so use caution when working on it.

    i have two of these.great equipment however both have same problem. the tuning is difficult to stay on frequency. the moment i release the knob the freq changes . i have cleaned and re-lubed variable cap front and rear bearings. i even lubed the inner part of tuning shaft. i'm tempted to devise a separate band spread arrangement to deal with this problem. any suggestions ?

    • @jefftranter
      @jefftranter  Před 3 lety

      There is a vernier reduction mechanism on the tuniing capacitor, but it can get gummed up and frozen. You should see almost three turns of the knob to get the tuning indicatr/capacitor to rotate througn 180 degrees. If you only get 1/2 a turn of the knob, then it is frozen and you need to try cleaning it. Could that be the issue?

    • @Mr71chevyvan
      @Mr71chevyvan Před 3 lety

      two units same problem.after cleaning and lube i get the turns needed and operation is smooth as silk. .through trial and error it stays on freq when tapping the knob. vernier must be bad watta pain

    Harmonic on most band are not a feature but a side effect of a simple or weak design. This problem is cause by too much feedback to allow to cover a wide band.
