Thank you Pompano Park for 58 years of memories and to Gabe Prewitt for making the last few years unforgettable. Cheers to everyone involved with this wonderful place.

Fitting Wally wins the final at Pomp. He won many races for us at Saratoga when he came down from Canada in the 80's. Great driver , better person. Sad goodbye to Pompano!

I was watching and betting via simulcast that last day. As usual Gabe gave the last race a good send off. I only got to visit Pompano Park one time on a trip to the Miami area. That was before the casino era and they ran a first class operation. Unfortunatly the land on which Pompano was built became too valuable to the casino company owner and they decided to end harness racing. As said by others there is no reason it still could have been one of the biggest handling tracks in winter. The owners just were interested in making more money by developing a mixed use operation.

This Casino is ok, but it can’t compare to Gulf Stream Park Horse Racing Casino and The Big Easy Casino there on a whole different level, in Hallandale Beach Florida, two of the biggest fun casino in Florida.🇺🇸

It's so sad all the jobs that are lost from the breeding farms to the guy the John Deere factory all the money Horseman spend when they were in Florida it'll take years for to remember why they should have kept Pompano Park RIP 🙏

The Casino was a rider on the Harness Racing licence....Then they stab the horseman in the back. This could have been one of the top five wagered on tracks on the planet with proper management....Instead they killed six decades of great racing.
Casino Evil....before simalcasting you'd meet fans from around the world that came to see the greats race.

Couldnt agree more, with all the transplants from the North coming into South Fla, would be hard to believe , this couldnt maintain and be a top handle racetrack.. Same more thing happened to Roosevelt Raceway back in the late 80s, when it was a falling apart, Yonkers Raceway that really needed to go.
The land became too valuable and even the senator (Al Damato) was in on the scam, real estate deal to Japan.. The Japanese "Yen" mysteriously dropped and tons of lawsuits and these guys never really got to enjoy the stolen "cash for land" money as Roosevelt sat idle for years after

Didn't get out to Balmoral but 1-time.
But I grew up at Sportsman's Park. Our family would meet up Friday nights for the Harness races. My Grandmother won a mink there in a raffle. I remember in College coming all the way from DeKalb to bet horses cause I needed money for school. I turned $25 into $3500. I could not lose. I was hooked.
Spent many a night at Maywood too. I'd go to the very top of the grandstand. These guys watched the pre-race warm ups. I started doing the same. I remember this 1-horse wouldn't stay on stride in the warm ups. He was the pre-race favorite. Come up to the race, I Chuck out the heavy favorite box 3-horses in the exacta. Key the 2nd favorite w/everyone but the heavy favorite. Heavy favorite broke. I knew I had a great chance to make money IF the 4-1 2nd favorite won. He won & set off boxcar prices & I made almost $7500. My hands were shaking - my palms sweaty as I received my winnings. I went out & brought a big 2-toned Grand Prix. I was on top and f the world!

Sad state of affairs..RIP Pompano Raceway, Greed always wins. My first visit was in the 80's, with my father. First 5/8 mile track that I ever saw "live". The great Niatross ran here too and of course won easily and track record at the time. 😢
