Customizing a Tiffany & Co. Watch? | Rant&h

- The Skinny: Tiffany & Co has always (kind of) been in the watch game. Whether that meant producing their own wristwatches or retailing some of the coolest watches from Patek Philippe and Audemars Piguet of all time, they've never really taken a break. But recently, Tiffany Co has made some large moves into the wristwatch market in attempt to make them, well, relevant again. Their CT60 is a good watch, no doubt. It's built and designed well and the price, although not a bargain, is nothing to cry about. Taking it one step further, they've not introduced one of the most intuitive customization programs around. It has its ups and massive downs so we're here to talk about it!

Theo & Harris is an online wristwatch news and retail platform. We cut the bullshit, we’ll bring you the raw and unfiltered material that other wristwatch news sites are paid not to write. We are dedicated to delivering value to you, our audience. We also sell watches. We love what we do.
The thing with this watch in particular is that Rolex already offers essentially the same thing. On the Datejust for example you can customize the metal, case size, bezel, dial, and bracelet all for a very similar price to the Tiffany and Co. The only real differences is you can't change the caseback on Rolex, but that is an acceptable trade-off given how much more prestigious Rolex watches are.
Is this Christian from Theoandharris.com? He never mentions it.
Hahahahahaha
Great work! Truly appreciate the legwork done for each video.
So hglad you enjoy, man!!
I think having different dial textures would be an awesome thing to add! I can imagine that's a more involved process than just having different colors, but close to no one uses multiple texture options anymore.
Great idea!!
I love your idea about customizing rotor with specific handsome, regal initials. Totally new level and great idea how to execute.Enjoyed your video again.
Nah, thats not new. Stowa have done it for years
Would you consider a more recent datejust, say a 16200 or 16234 as there are some really great examples out there atm?
Hey Christian, do you happen to have straps as the one shown in the video for sale? It's absolutely fantastic!
I dont! But if I ever stumble upon a few more, I'll be sure to let CZcams know!!
How do you feel about mildly self-customized Rolex watches? For instance, I have a Datejust with a silver tapestry dial and silver hands. I'm strongly considering switching out the hands to dark colored hands for visibility. Is there a value stigma against this? I'd hold on to the original hands in case I sell the watch in the future.
Where'd you get the strap on the Datejust?
AP actually offers custom rotor service with the Jumbos, PPCs and Grand comps
I've ehard that! Eric Ku did a wonderful job with his 15202
Christian, please give your opinion of Chopard's L.U.C range particularly what you think of this oddly named range.
Great topic!
Whenever I've thought about Tiffany & Co I then thought about Cartier and their new amazing divers. That's when I stop thinking about Tiffany & Co.
Just wanted to say that i agree on you on Ariels watch; at first glance it reminded me of a Timex Indiglo. Anyway, i enjoyed hearing your point of view as usuall. Happy Holidays to all you Watch Fams
Thanks so much for watching!!
Definitively like Tiffany's innovative way to add value to their products.
The Swiss watch industry is struggling today exactly because of continuous innovation from a business perspective.
I don't see each and every brand going down this path but it may inspire others if consumers embrace that.
FYI...I believe Stowa offers rotor customization.
Yup.
I'll have to take a look!
Theo and Harris If you scroll to the bottom of this page (www.stowa.de/en/shop/), you'll see the heading "Engravings. Individual. We customize your watch." It's where they offer customized gears (they use the term 'wheels'), rotors and cases.
When I saw Ariel "designing" his watch, I wasn't sure about his choice. But in the end it is a very special watch. Not my personal taste, but not bad at at all. The rose gold numerals are going well with the bezel and the two-tone bracelet. And the Tiffany-blue dial isn't seen too often on men's wrists.
Hey watch fam! What are the differences between the 1601 and a 1603? Or the other references Christian mentioned.
Arne Mededovic watch fam! 1603 is a 1601 with a steel bezel instead of. White gold one. The other two references have quick set date!!
Theo and Harris thank you very much!
Thanks for another great topic. We actually studied this company in school. They tarnished the luxury of their brand some years ago with the "return to Tiffany" lower cost jewelry line and found that ghetto rich people were wearing that line as an unwanted walking billboard. This doesn't feel quite as cheap, but it detracts from luxury, GIVEN the fact that ugly combinations are possible. Harley Davidson did a similar customize marketing stunt, but at least they made sure nothing would look bad in combination by limiting the choices. A big risk of this endeavour is hideous outcomes (that watch) by allowing customers to think for themselves. The smart marketer thinks FOR you and convinces you it was your choice all along.
Great comment, man!! I'll have to read more about Harleys efforts!
It looks like a Timex Weekender on a bracelet.
hahahah youre right!
I love my date just 1510 ❤ it's not seen very often which adds to its appeal in my opinion
The classic watch companies are behind the curve. They need to evolve or die.
For sure!
Yes Christian, great video, good idea for Tiffany yada yada yada, just tell me where did you get your strap!!!! :p Buy the way I think there's a German brand that customizes the rotor like you suggested, I think it's Laco but I'm not sure. Great video. #whatisupwatchfam?
Hahhahaah they're not for sale but if I stumble upon a few more, I'll let youtube know!
Theo and Harris thanks man, I was dying here ;) . cheers.
I'm not feeling those T&Co watches but I like the idea of having an experience to customize a watch.
It's a great idea!!
"Sub-mareen-er" - Ariel Adams
Christian! Ariel Adams did watch this. And you made Ariel Adams cry . heheheheheh
Hahahah I doubt it!!!
At first I thought that was an uglier version of my first Timex Indiglo.;-)
Tiffany's bread and butter is not watches and never has been.....what they DO NOT want to do is spread themselves out of the diamond market which is by far the bread winner...engagements. And so the marketing of watches will be subtle and take place on a gradual consistent like the "flowing of the tides" basis. A Tiffany's watch is a perfect add on sale to an expensive anniversary diamond.... They do not want to compete with the other 100 watch houses....Would you want Rolex to all of a sudden sell diamond wedding rings and market the heck out of it? They never would. It would tarnish and canniballize their bread and butter.... They could though right? Whats stopping them? Just saying....cross product selling is a very very delicate matter. Very Delicate. Always enjoy your stuff! Cheers.
David L. Totally agree. It's a nice idea that a guy who gets dragged to Tiffany with his significant other can casually happen upon this collection of watches in the store. I happen to think the CT60 watches are really beautiful. Some of the dial options look amazing with the precious metal cases.
Rotor customization? Stowa, since 1927.
I'll have to check it out!!
You can be a good consultant for watch companies.
Thank you, Colton!!
Who are you to say weather a watch is definitively "awful?" The world of watches is so beautiful because everybody is allowed to have their own opinion and wear watches that they enjoy. You say that you are not a watch snob but from how you talk about other people's watches I would certainly beg to differ
I certainly didnt mean for my remark to be interpreted as definitive or gospel. ASKTNH is very largely an opinion show! I am perfectly fine with someone disagreeing with me but I definitely wont say that I dont think something is tasteless if, well, I do!
True, this Tiffany watch by Adams is so aweful!
Tim S.
I think the real question here is if you should get a Tiffany Watch at all
I think they're decent watches, a touch pricey but you're paying the Tiffany name premium.
I think I read that their movements are audemars.
I like the idea of customizing....but don't at all care for the idea of customizing this particular model. Give me the chance to customize and East West...and I am in.
Just go to basic: it's Just dogshit what ever is the color. 😂
Who would spend $5000+ on something that is clearly not haute horology?
Great question. And I think the answer to that is dependent on what is considered haute horology, I think.
Good answer.
phirst!
PDXJay respektos
They look horrible with a price to match. Calling them "bi-color" to offset the negative connotations of "TT" to a market audience that wouldn't understand that anyway is simply bizarre. But huzzah I hope they fail!
Thanks so much for watching!!
I dig the concept but 2700 is a bit overkill, isn't it? I think the options should be better curated and that opens up the possibility of retiring and introducing new options seasonally. Also, Uncle Ben once said to Peter Parker, "With great power comes great responsibility." Ariel Adams is not Spider-man.
I definitely agree!
