Bright Lights, Big City: Y Seswin Hwyr. S4C. 'Teaser' Film

A multi-media performance work for string orchestra, electronics, turntables, sampled spoken word, operatic soprano, rappers and an visual backdrop.
As part of the research for the above work, the use of voice and language is an integral part, reflecting the urban diaspora, and inspired by the non-narrative 'City Symphony' films of the Twenties such as ‘Berlin : Symphony Of A Metropolis’ by Walter Ruttmann and composer Edmund Meisel.
I went out with journalist and writer John Gower to interview the people of Cardiff and talk about what it meant to them to be Welsh & more importantly ‘Cardiffian’, and created a score that reflects modern urban Britain, as I saw it in the late 1990's
