Just saw this, a beautiful song sung by a beautiful voice by a beautiful lady, my favourite love song. I'll never ever forget Aberfan living only a few miles from there when this happened. My father went there to help dig those poor souls out after he'd finished a night shift at the nearby Hoover factory. RIP. XX

I was a Derbyshire miner during this tragic day. I have never seen as many grown men openly in tears before or since. It still brings me to tears. God bless the poor souls who lost their lives, the relatives who have lost loved ones, and those emergency workers who had the task of recovering the bodies.🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

I was 14 when this tragedy happened. In our school assembly we had a 2 minute silence - not a dry eye in the room. Nearly a whole generation wiped out in a moment. The magnitude of the disaster was very hard to take in. Still can't think of it without welling up.

It's difficult to write with tears streaming down my face after listening to such a beautiful rendition of "Myfanwy".
The tears are twofold, my mother's name was Myfanwy, born Myfanwy Roberts, and the other is the terrible loss of those 116 children and 28 adults.
The mine owners knew not to build a mine spoil tip on top of a spring, but they were driven by money. It was built in contravention of the NCB's official procedures, the tip was partly based on ground from which water springs emerged.
That, is the true horror of it all.

@@PatrickKelly-lz3pv @Patrick Kelly my word's may seem nonsensical and certainly you will have heard it many times but although you clearly do, you should not feel such guilt Patrick.
I too carry a guilt from my own service . It took years of intense therapy to realise there was "absolutely nothing" I could have done that would have altered the outcome.
I hope this does not sound patronising.
Many things in life are simply beyond our control.
I know my words will not ease your suffering. But please know I genuinely understand and care.
I cannot imagine the pain and suffering of that day and still today.
Although I was not born it breaks my heart.

She sings it with such heartfelt feeling and splendid intonation, she never fails to bring a lump to my throat. So very well done! There were a few programmes aired on BBC Wales last year for the anniversary, one of which focused on what happened before and after the disaster and it became apparent that local people had been telling the coal board for years that they were concerned about the slag heap and feared something like this might happen if it wasn't addressed but since that would have cost money the coal board ignored them and everything continued on as usual.
It's so sad but watching the programmes and learning about how easily this could have been prevented makes me so mad because yes, on the one hand we can say that we 'learned' from this tragedy but it took the lives of so many for the coal board to 'learn' something which they should have already known in the first place. And whilst the men and women of the village and surrounding areas spent their time trying desperately to save any lives that they could the coal board sat around coming up with excuses, they should never be forgiven for what they did.

That drew my heart to follow you?
      *2.* Pa beth a wneuthum, O Myfanwy
I haeddu gwg dy ddwyrudd hardd?
      Ai chwarae oeddit, O Myfanwy
Â thanau euraidd serch dy fardd?
Wyt eiddo im drwy gywir amod
Ai gormod cadw'th air i mi?
Ni cheisiaf fyth mo'th law, Myfanwy,
Heb gael dy galon gyda hi.
What was it that I did, Oh Myfanwy,
To deserve the frown of your beautiful cheeks?
Was it a game for you, Oh Myfanwy,
This poet's golden flame of love?
You belong to me, through true promise,
Too much to keep your word to me?
I'll never seek your hand, Myfanwy,
Unless I have your heart with it.
*3.* Myfanwy boed yr holl o'th fywyd
      Dan heulwen ddisglair canol dydd.
A boed i rosyn gwridog iechyd
I ddawnsio ganmlwydd ar dy rudd.
      Anghofia'r oll o'th addewidion
A wnest i rywun, 'ngeneth ddel,
      A dyro'th law, Myfanwy dirion
I ddim ond dweud y gair "Ffarwél".
Myfanwy, may your life entirely be
Beneath the midday sun's bright glow,
And may a blushing rose of health
Dance on your cheek a hundred years.
I forget all your words of promise
You made to someone, my pretty girl
So give me your hand, my sweet Myfanwy,
For no more but to say "farewell".
Some of the Welsh lyrics don't fit with what she sings, it's the version I found on Wikipedia.

The Welsh will never forget. You have to constantly remind those in power in England. That's the sad bit.
