They are all very talented musicians, but do agree Emmett has a soulful voice. I listened to many versions of this song on youtube and to me this is my favorite one. The arrangement, the dobro and Emmett’s voice really stand out. Thank you for sharing Petersons and playing good, fun, clean music. I’m headed to itunes to buy one of your albums.

Emmett's a great asset to the band. I particularly enjoy his songs with Katie. They may not be dating, but, they look mighty good together.

I was on the hunt for good bluegrass gospel music and somehow I found you guys! Your gospel music is so heart felt and touching. I look forward to hearing more! You all are ALL so talented.

We are not living in dark times. There is less crime and war now than there ever has been. More prosperity too. What would you say if you were living in the times of the Revolutionary War, Civil war, WW1, WW2, etc. 85 million people died in ww2. Do you have any concept of the kind of suffering that was going on in the Pacific Theater of ww2?

I agree. Maybe we’re not in the degree of dark times as ww2, but with 38 million people throughout our land who are having to deal with unemployment and everything that goes with that due to the shutdown, I would say that is a dark time for many people. Not to mention this world has been in spiritual darkness since nearly the beginning of time. I’m simply saying the lyrics in this song are very uplifting to many people right now, including myself, my wife and kids. Praise God for these lyrics.
Big Ears agreed, the early Christians under the persecution of the Roman Empire was very dark times. I do not expect this life to be utopia. The darker this world gets the more Christ shines brighter.

I know Emmett jokingly said he picked up to dobro because everyone in his family already played the cooler instruments, but that was clearly the right instrument to go with his soulful voice. Beautiful performance by all of you!
And in the long run not many people play the dobro. It is a somewhat obscure instrument compared to the guitar, banjo or fiddle. I think it would be kind of cool to be able to say "I play a dobro". And clearly, he made the right choice

Well today my wife funeral is happening at our church. The words in this song is powerful and has a message to all where we go after death on this earth. Emmett and Katie's vocals, the instruments and overall arrangement make this the best cover of this song ever!
This is a good cover but pale compared to Jars of Clay’s cover version. They do an acoustic and an electric version. They have fuller harmonies and their arrangement is edger and more creative. They are of course older and professional musicians who have been around for a number of decades. This can be a hard song to cover because Julie Miller who wrote the song gives it a good feel of sadness and pain but also of hope and overcoming.

Love the fact that there are no big egos in this band. Ellen doesn't have a major banjo part in this song, and she happily takes a back seat while Katie takes the vocal spotlight with Emmett.

That's so right. Big egos in a band are destructive but I suppose in a family, all the friction is sorted out over who does the dishes. By and large, if you don't want to play in a band where one or other member is on an ego trip, go solo because there's almost always friction caused by at least one member being a prema donna while you sit back just wanting to get on with it.
The humility of each and every one of them shines through. They know this is not for their glory, but to our Heavenly Father's. Peace...
