  • The Giga Jul is the latest in Edelrid’s assisted braking device range. Their commitment to assisted breaking is first for safety, but also because it is a mandatory requirement within German climbing walls. The Giga Jul can be used as an assisted or a normal device, both as a guide plate or a standard belay. 100g.

I still struggle a bit using this while lead belaying - it often locks while paying out slack. It’s probably me not paying out rope properly but I cant find a video showing how to do it :(

That is a much nicer colour, and it is irritating that edilrid don't offer multiple colours

I think it was an Edelrid Strike twist lock, although I can’t quite remember. I’ve been using it with a DMM Rhino and it works well. It doesn’t work so well with a DMM Sentinel: too grabby and doesn’t lock well in Jul mode.

hopefully this one is belay the second from anchor like dmm pivot. I like mega jul but belay second is my nightmare

What about lead belaying? No word on how it works in that scenario

I use the old megajul, mainly for lead belaying. With the HMS edelrid biner designed not to cross load rotate. And a regular ATC guide for top belaying.
Mmm by the way, the guy looks superfit for his age, and she is v cute ;)
