That was definitely a heartbreaker....Bama had them on the ropes late but those damn turnovers. Still, to be on probation, lack of talent, coaching they played hard. Came back from a 20 point deficit, had a bullshit fumble call and a couple of those field goals been good Bama would've left Norman with a W. I, for one, sure am glad those dark days are gone! Roll Tide!
I'm an OU fan who also likes Alabama, and this was the first game I watched when I was a little kid. After this battle between us, Alabama became my 2nd favorite team behind OU
Such a hard fought game by both teams. Both programs have a ton of success and tradition dating wayyyy back. Alabama almost pulled what would've been a huge upset in this game because the 02-03 Oklahoma teams were stacked! Nice watching these older games and reminiscing childhood memories watching with my late grand parents.
I loved when Bama would run that smoke draw! Probably the best defensive line they've ever had as a collection. They had a very physical football team!
This has always been one of my favorite games. My dad was in Houston and I was in Oklahoma, and we were talking on the phone while we watched it together. For whatever reason, his satellite was about 10 seconds behind my cable. When OU scored that last touchdown, stopping Bama's drive, I was cheering so loud. My dad was wondering what could have possibly happened.
It's a shame Bama couldn't pull this one out. The second half, minus the last few minutes of the game, was incredible. If Alabama had a FG kicker, this game may have been different.
I was on the field for the final six minutes of this game. Watching that ball slip out of Watts’ hands summed up his entire Bama career. If we had any kind of decent QB we could’ve won a split national championship that year. Our three losses were this one, on a last second FG to UGA, and a heart breaker to Auburn. No bowl Bc we were on probation, and had a real shot with the talent we had that year.
Depends on how you look at it. Bama did a surprise on side kick, blocked 2 punts (one for a TD), blocked a FG, forced a fumble on a kickoff, and faked a FG for a touchdown. But, Bama was also 2/4 on FGs with a blocked kick and a 20 yard miss. There was also the bad snap on the punt that led to the safety and the kickoff out of bounds.
Watts was an average QB but one hell of a competitor. That roughing the kicker there just before the half was huge. Can't miss 22 yard field goals and expect to beat OU in their Prime.
Basking in a game over 20 years old is a hell of a flex. I guess because In the 24 years it's been since Oklahoma won a national championship they are 0-7 in national championship/playoff games. 5 of those against the SEC. Georgia, Bama and LSU each had a turn back to back to back years. Alabamas biggest accomplishments in that time span are winning 6 national championships. Oklahomas is beating Alabama in the sugar bowl one year 😂
Never been prouder of Alabama. The talent gap was massive and they played their asses off.

The talent gap was not the factor in those years at alabama. It was the coaching staff. They were sending guys to the n f l far ahead of nicky saban
I was at that game. Super impressed with the Bama fans that poured into Norman. Great game, great opponent, awesome day. BOOMER !!
Musberger made the game soo much better. Well, ABC sports too before ESPN bought them😢

Can’t wait for this game next year

Me and my hubby Maxwell went, he'd never seen us play

Man what happened to OU’s defense
Might be the worst special teams game I’ve ever seen.

If we haven't been on probation in 02 we would've won the west
Yeah instead Georgia destroyed Arkansas

There were some bullshit calls in this game.....
Yeah i slowed down the play Antonio Beard lost the ball and you can see his knee hits before the ball comes loose
We were better than y'all
Keyword is "were". Still could barley win then.
