I have a rog, and I don't have a desktop PC so I would choose the rog again. But due to his astounding performance in really low demanding games, if I had another PC I would choose the steam no doubt.
if you looking for more battery time and a very good budget gaming handheld gaming device go for the steam deck if you prefer more graphics but lower time and smaller joysticks but Quiter go for the rog ally
Hey Debits, does the magnetic clip fit the Rog Ally and will it block the air vent on it? Let me know before i buy
Hey Debits, where do u get your music from brother? I need some for my channel. Please tell me lol
Could you do this again but with the OLED Deck? I'm still trying to decide between the two. Thank you!
You should make a comparison on the game high on life, since it's now on PS5
It was the Z1 or the Z1 Extreme?
How to setup freesync on ROG Ally ? Should I turn on Vsync in game ?
It's amazing that we've gotten to the point where we can have pc's the size of a phone tho
I remember Sony Vaio XP OS handheld pc. It was 2500 dollars.
sold my deck happy to have my ally😂
Can you do similar tests but with Steam OS installed on the Asus Rog Ally?
My deck bricked on the latest update and although Valve agreed to replace it, it is impossible for me because I live outside of the US and Canada so yeah.
Great test
The 68% sRGB is a deal breaker for me. That’s like a 2011 Chinese tablet type screen. The OG Switch non OLED is Full Color Gamut. That’s too much of a trade off for me.
Honestly more of the tests should have been done at performance mode as that's the 15w mode and equivalent to the steam deck's max power mode. Would of been very much representative of the improvements the Ally has in performance. Turbo mode really should be reserved for when you're plugged in due to the battery decrease. Also the lower end games should of been done at the lower 7w mode to improve the battery life on those games that don't need as much power
Yeah, Turbo should not have even been used. And not seeing Silent mode at all was a big miss. I would have liked to have seen Dave the Diver at the Silent mode, which normally runs games as low as 7watts.
I noticed Turbo mode is being overused in the comparisons. Indeed, it's only really useful when docked or tethered to a power brick. I don't think it's a good comparison. It's good to have this kind of competition and interest in this space. Valve really popularized the mobile PC gaming category. I really didn't expect the Steam Deck to be such a hit.
@@Orangejulius8ay it still counts
I disagree.
You don’t buy an ROG ally to use for performance mode only.
It’s simple.
If you value battery life over performance, get a steam deck.
If you value performance over anything, get an ROG ALLY
The overall winner is Ally because you have BOTH options
Deck is limited to 15 Watt, even plugged in.
Thus, again, ROG ally has a huge advantage when plugged in turbo mode which is the reason why you’d buy it in the first place.
Why doesn't the device realise it doesnt need the extra watts and just decrease it or increase it automatically?
Why this music is so addicting I never get tired of listening lolll
The correct term is 'Addictive', not 'Addicting'.
ROG Ally Still top console handeling .I going to buy ROG Ally z1 extream :D
Buy a Legion Go. Is better
The last of us performance on the Ally is not right? I got well over 45 on low 720p 15w.
It also seemed low to me based on the other tests
I think what people should take away is go with what is best for you as an individual. Both are great machines. Both have pros and cons. The deck is for those who want that console like experience and the ally is for those of us who want a more pc experience and don’t mind tinkering with programs. Steam has an amazing community and the ROG ally community is steady growing from what I can tell and it can only get larger. The more stable yet inferior machine with great community. And the superior machine with a bigger asking price with an up and coming community. Either way you can’t go wrong with both or either or…
agreed i like pc mods and they don't mesh well with the steam deck, i have bricked 2 .
@@X862goyou've bricked two steam decks with mods?!
@@vicrattlehead5051 yeah
@vicrattlehead5051 by bricked, I just mean everything went black, and nothing would boot at all. I would have to pull the m.2 flash it and then re-download the steam recovery image. It's really fixing sucks after the second time I stopped modding games on the Deck. Maybe one or two mods, but definitely not 100+ like I was doing. Now I only do pc mods on rog Ally.
Exactly
I want a machine that combines best of both. The track pads and steam OS of the steam deck plus the better screen, graphics processor and faster charging times of the rog ally. Remove windows and its annoying useless frequent updates.
That's the device we need. Having owned both, I'll have to keep the SD for now. The Ally's internals and screen are far superior to the SD, but SteamOS is night and day better than dealing with Windows and it's not even close.
I won't buy an Ally if it was not a windows. I mean seriously I don't want to be locked on Steam OS.
The OLED SD is $1270 an the rog is $1000 where I live but I think I'm going to have to leave the performance behind for battery life an get the OLED steam deck

How did dave the diver run the battery out on the Rog quicker than Cyberpunk?!
Wait what steam deck can run god of war at 4K?
Lol no absolutely not
It’s different versions to the steam deck tho. It’s best to get the 649 one from them. Some people getting cheaper versions
@@cameelahcarterAll versions have the same performance. The main difference is storage
they should made handheld that can run games 4k 60fps on medium setting with atleast 4 hours battery while playing demanding gamws
@@misterlove7895 Modern Consoles cant even hit 4K 60 in modern games anymore, doubt handhelds will in the near future
whats the performance of ROG Ally without the Turbo mode? you're comparing it to the steam deck with the Turbo mode on but not showing the performance when its off.
On 15 w both consoles have the same performance
@@MatiX415that's not true at all. Especially after firmware updates the Ally is significantly better on lower wattages
@@officerminiwheats idk about 15w now but its not better on 12 or 10w for sure, you cant change that
Nice comparison content, but the main reason I keep coming back to this video is because this music helps me to concentrate.
I choose steamdeck because my games run well on it.tekken 7,soul calibur, mortal kombat xl with better battery life of course
You don’t compare 10w tdp steam deck to silence mode10w? On ally
With very low demanding game and see how long they both can last, I got the best result of 6hrs of SD battery life when playing 2d pixel games at 5w.
And 7hrs when streaming games from pc.
SD is most optimise on 10W, plays a lot of new games and some AAAs with only 9 or 10W TDP with solid 30fps lasting around 3hrs playtime. No other PC handheld can beat that as of now.
@@cocobosAlly got new update significantly upped it's low TDP performance..... Also Ally non Extreme version was leaked to have superior performance from 9-13W to anything else in the market
@@TRX25EX the update just bring back the old performance before the 317, still pretty bad in 10w and about the same with 15w in some games. The non extreme will perform worse, because of the cut. It's the same architecture with the Extreme.
@@cocobos no it will perform better, 6600U already beat Steam Deck in 9-13W scenarios and 7640U is a better version of that.... Due to it's less frequencies and less cores it's more efficient hence more effective at low TDPs
@@TRX25EX Hopefully, if it really perform in low power, I think its way better than the Extreme version.
This is a horror movie for certain people by looking at the comments.
We should be happy that technology moves on fast, stop being so rude to try to cope for a purchase that was most likely good for you at the time.
I came a bit late to the handheld world so I obviously went Ally.
SD 2 going to have to be even greater so its good for all of us.
Gracias por tu gran trabajo, like y favoritos 👍
I really like the 30w performance of the ally, just a shame that the ally costs about double of what i can buy a SD for even if bought used (the lcd model anyway, the sd oled also has a somewhat steeper entry pricetag). I'll probably end up buying a used SD simply because I dont have 600-700 bucks to spends on a handheld and theyre not strong enough to replace my pc at this point yet.
I chose Steamdeck because the base model is just more budget friendly and I love Valve as a company and want to support them for future projects like the steamdeck

I chose the Deck because I play a lot of cursor reliant games like RTS and Open Source projects like MegaMek.

Still like your ally?
Which one is better ? I own a pc gamer but idk what to choose between steam deck and ally
Rog ally @@JURO768KUJO
If you play a lot on PC get steam deck might be cheaper now.
Steam deck for what it offers for that price is still a better choice and has those track pads that are great for RTS games
hell nah not for someone that cares about display and running games at higher graphics settings and who has no care for playing rts type games, so not needing pads, plus those that do there is the ayaneo kun coming with pads and similarly more powerful with a better screen and the biggest battery yet in a handheld, u get hall effect everything, VRR, so many more important things justifying a lot of that price difference, at least to me
the deck is already creaking imo
@@melxbi mean yeah if u enjoy playing a pretty looking game for 45 - 55 minutes xd
@@cyphermain21i play all my handhelds 99% at home while wired even the switch, heck even my phone watching content, etc u name it all my devices...out in the hustle and bustle sucks in comparison, maybe at work on a 20 30 min break tops or i guess back in school/college btw classes, so that's enough time, but even then it doesn't compare to playing at home in peace on the bed or couch without noise and people, worse lighting conditions etc u just end up more immersed/playing the game at a chill pace in that environment...and in general just don't travel enough for battery to matter to me like that and the times i do travel 9 times out of 10 my focus is elsewhere and with people which is just not ideal for gaming...so yeah battery definitely is another aspect that doesn't matter to me at all really and i think it's like that for the majority of people, they may bring it up in comments but for real are at a plugs reach and there are solutions like battery banks etc...for those where battery matters, well ull have to play it at those low settings like the deck, switch, etc to get somewhere decent with it, I'm good on that personally...i love handheld tech, love small screens where games still look clean and gaming up close and personal with controls right by the screen is why i prefer handheld gaming in case u then comment why not just stick to console and pc if u are wired anyways, it's for the different feel/more comfortable feel...oh well it is what it is until we see advancements in that department 🤷♂️
They're the same price. Even the cheaper versions of the Deck require a storage upgrade equaling the price.
but steam deck is not 1080p?
El video que necesitaba
Price to performance, yes.
This fight is over.
Steamdeck old games full detail 60fps
New games medium-high settings 40fps lock
New demanding games low detail 30fps lock
one thing that ROG will never have. is Valve and its amazing community filled with devs that make the steam deck better.
ROG is not very user friendly like the DECK so I've heard. Happy to see competition but DECK took everything in consideration.
@@Dragonfury3000 the things I love about the deck is how personal you can make it with the Deckyloader software. Also valves proton along with the community proton does optimizations for games that don't entirely require the developer of the games help. But even then, some devs make steam deck specific updates. I feel when valve makes steamOS open other handhelds may benefit from it
@@Dragonfury3000 the ally is very user friendly so long as you know windows - i struggle more with linux and the desktop tbh
@@Futura2500 yeah same, But I kinda gotten use to it, I had a hard time installing better discord on my Deck, but I gotten frustrated with windows over the years like the search function doesn't search correctly, and it annoys me that the file I'm searching for redirects to a web search 😞

I have both and for me it is the asus from a long shot.
Half the steam deck games are not certified all the other platforms are very hard to install and run due to Linux.
It is only good on steam certified games all the rest is pain.
Asus is a basic pc with a good game launcher that work with anything game pass ,gig,ea ubi....and steam not just certified steam but any steam deck

Steam deck oled
rog ally is twice more expensive than steam deck. i don't see twice the performance.
i have both and if i am playing AAA rog ally if i am doing 2d steam deck !
Where's the 10W mode comparison? So this is not yet definitive comparison coz of missing that crucial part.
7840u devices all day, I want to run games at high settings vs being stuck to low everything on the deck just to get them to run
And half the time you still can’t play them on low on the deck, need cryoutilities, power tools etc.
Emulation is also much better. I had to mess with powertools forever to get Dolphin games to run correctly on the Deck, and even then had issues with stutter in some games. Everything on my Ally has been smooth sailing.
@@RiftFishingexactly, i don't get the windows nitpicks, u don't have to look for work arounds to run all the other launchers like gamepass, epic, etc plus armory crate, ayaspace, etc syncs it all in one place, but the way they comment u would think it's a nightmare just turning it on and trying to start a game lol the hate is so overblown, not to mention it's only getting better with updates just like the steam deck needed...side note, that native landscape vrr screen on that rog is awesome
@@melxbyea, even windows on Steam Deck is pretty easy to play with. And the battery with windows isn't that bad in comparison with Steam OS.
@@melxb I got the Steam Deck a few months after release and it was still a nightmare in some places software wise, I had plenty of times the system just locked itself up and I couldn't do anything except hard reboot.
I've had probably around the same amount of issues with my Ally, but far less frustrating overall because you don't have to jump through so many hoops to get certain games running.
The 120hz freesync display is also so nice. Can't understate how much of a difference that makes compared to the steam deck when you're dealing with low power PCs.
If you're okay with just playing specific games on the Steam Library, I think Steam Deck is still a perfectly valid choice. But I agree that people majorly overblow how 'bad' windows is, when I would spend hours tweaking my Deck to try and get certain games or launchers working, when it's a few presses of the button with windows and maybe an occasional wrong sized window.
You can also totally set up your ROG to boot Steam Big Picture on startup if you want, and still have access to all the nice windows launchers and features in the background.
I love the Steam Deck as well but man the defense force has really turned out in this comment section. It's a testament to the awesome Deck community. There's room for both of them in my household. Both systems accompany me on my work commutes. My Steam Deck now only plays indies, RTS and retro PC games that need those amazing trackpads to emulate the mouse and keyboard. My Ally will play everything else. High end emulation, recent AAA games and my locally installed (not cloud) game pass library. Man, one thing about this video I have to comment on is the screen. It really does highlight how bad the Steam Deck screen truly is when compared.
new fannboy communities are created by these handhelds.
deck fanboys get so sour 😂
I had the steam deck, I sold it for the same price. Rog Ally is really powerfull machine. His processor can even play 4K games at 15W like Age of empire II and Warthunder, o Total Warhammer on medium/high at 15w at 1080p.
Steam deck couldn't do that, but more powerfull for low tdp. (can play Force Unleashed at 5W, 5 hours battery life, just crazy).
Ally can 120hz like Battlefield 1 o Fornite at 720p. Z1 extrem (7840u) is more powerfull than a desktop R7 5700x at 30-50W when dock, more powerfull than a 6800h sector vs on battery for Z1 extrem. NUTS
Ally has the better internals (and screen) but Steam Deck has the better hardware (external) and far better software/OS.
Playing at native resolution of the device and keeping the wattage the same between them the steam deck has more performance while having longer battery life. Steam deck is a way better overall package
They both suck battery wise so why not get one that's more powerful and runs less hot.

Has to be said, the Ally is really on another level in literally every test. Screen, Performance, AAA Battery life and compatibility. VRR support is also a game changer, it's just a far more future proof device.
The future of these handhelds is super bright if this is the difference were seeing with only a year between them.
Yeah, yeah. There is always someone out there copying another product, taking and using their ideas, and improving it to get money.
We will have to wait Asus testing first and then unlocking 35W, 40W and 45W.
