Theres a trophy called "1000 years later" after you beat the "tutorial boss" so I'm taking that as canon about the amount of time that's passed. Loved finding Mother of Mothers
Very likely. You can see Cvstodia being newly built and less ruined. And from Orospina's dialogue a long amount of time has passed on the land.
And the lore of the Bishop mentions it has been hundreds of years since the great church(Mother of all Mothers) fell in deep ground. So I am taking 1000 years` gap seriously.
If that's the case. How did Cisandra live that long?
@@ryanartward My theory is that Crisanta`s power and her crimson bindings are gifts from the true Miracle, not the Grievous Miracle so they still process the magic power they used to have. After all she was once the agent of the Miracle but blinded by the Grievous Miracle. And the faith to the Miracle in Cvstodia is weak but not extinct so the Miracle has never left the land as the children of the Moon remain in the land for all these years according to Proximo.
An example of the Miracle`s power is Benedicta, she has been transformed for hundreds of years by using the forbidden prayer according to the lore of her key. That means either she was a work of the Miracle hundreds years ago or the Miracle has been back for hundreds years.
@@ryanartward i think that chrisanta died right after blasphemous 1 ending. Cuz the heart in the sky has born when the penitent defeated the high wills, so people of Cvstodia started to worship it and build a new city around it. And then eviterno went to the old escribar'd "deambulatory of his holiness" and started to wait 1000 years for the penitent arrive
Seeing the Mother of Mothers again out of nowhere was probably the best feeling I’ve had in a metroidvania since Hollow Knight. Loved this game
The moment i saw the mother of mothers i fr started exploting
Also in the sea of ink temple you can see ten piedads statue and in the labyrinth you can find the boat-statue from wounds of eventide
Same here, I lost my mind when I stumbled across it.
Same here it was nice they put that area in the sequel
I went there super early and was like, wait a minute, I know this place, I hated it 😂
@@tizielechicero9077where in the temple can you see the Ten Piedad statue?
12:45 - I see this point come up a lot but I think it's a misconception. The Witness isn't the child born, he's the one delivering the child - you can see him acting as the 'Midwife' in the prior scene. Going by the Witness' dialogue when you bring him keys, it suggests that the 'child' born was the Miracle's first effort to take on physical form, but because it was unused to using its powers without the direction of the High Wills, it first manifested as the new plague of afflictions, spreading and mutating people throughout the land. The 'child' as literally a formless plague - the Witness was just the first one to be afflicted. These mutations were the Miracle 'learning' how to take on tangible form. The Miracle finally manifested as the Heart, it's last best effort to take on a physical incarnation.
That's a really good point and not one I had considered. The Witness not being the child and that "child" being the plague makes a lot more sense when taking into account the Miracles goal of trying to make a physical form.
The story of praying to God to bear a child because of infertility is also more alike John the Baptist, which is the one that came (announced) before Jesus (and many mistook him for the Messiah).
So it fits nicely that that child was also a kind of first attempt or announcement for the real one.
...Huh... that's... not a bad thought.
Did the Miracle die when the Incarnate Devotion die? Did the Miracle not create the highest heaven? In other words, is there something more powerful than the Miracle exist?
The impression I got was that it died. The ending A says that as the 'icon' (the Incarnate) fell, the Miracle's 'design and will' went along with it. Without power, form or will, there really shouldn't be anything left of it.
The High Wills did mention that the Miracle shaped the Ancient Processions, the afterlife we see in the first game, but the afterlife was still older than the High Wills. So it may just be that the Miracle changed it into the form we saw, and with the Miracle gone it's manipulations should end also.
I think you touched upon why the bosses and some of the enemies seeming so... happenstance without realizing it: The Miracle was dying when it was reawakened, and needed guardians to protect it. It is acting without seeming rhyme and reason because, unlike before, it lacks the support structure of the established holy church. So, instead of blessing powerful saints and martyrs, it just grabbed anyone and everyone it could. There is no rhyme or reason to the actions of a starving, desperate beast.
I was thinking that too. These are just regular, flawed people caught up in a twisted game beyond their understanding for the most part, not warriors filled with great imponence and purpose. One is even basically a murderous psycho. As a result there's not much said about them because there *isn't much to say*.
Last line goes so hard
That's just an excuse for the devs writing a ridiculous unconnected story
No. The devs just had no idea how to write a proper story.
"A completely omnipotent force was acting randomly". Yes, that's called not having a story at all.
@@maskingtables Yeah but it's stated in the game that it has become very weak, desperate to have people worshipping it. It can only manifest itself in curses. Can't even do miracles anymore
One of the saddest things in this game is if you go all the way back to the beginning, you catch a glimpse of the puppy from the first game
And almost every npc the Pentient One met before has their statue, recording their stories after B1. Some relic in B1 are shown in the map in B2 as well.
Not sad but nostalgic
it's been 1000 years what were you expecting?
That's the thing that made me feel the most in this game. I usually spent a couple seconds "playing" with the puppy everytime I went to Albero in the first game. So seeing his playful spirit besides the coffin, like he was there those 1000 years, keeping the penitent one company... I love that little guy :')
Now playing at a Cvstodia theatre near you: Don Bluth’s new animated classic “All Dogs Go to the Other Side of the Dream”
;)
From what i know the honey man is a reference to the story of a hollow statue of christ which cried honey due to bees living inside (search for "Cristo de la miel", the story is a bit longer)
It is.
Correction: The third person in the birthing cutscene, the one with ginger hair and black wings (the "Witness") was not the couples child. He was the midwife of the birth (look closely at the cutscenes, you will see him waiting for the child between the mothers legs). The "child" that the couple gave birth to was actually the oozing black substance which turned him into a dark angel and brought suffering to Custodia.
To add: The positioning of the cutscene makes it seem like The Witness came out of The Mother's womb, which is not the case. If he actually was the child, he would not be called "the witness" and instead would be called something like "the child".
I thought I saw him kneeling before the woman and was confused.
You are correct. All the deformities and mutations that roam Cvstodia were tainted by the plague that was born from the mother.
@@blumiu2426He was helping to deliver the baby, except the “baby” wasn’t a human but an oozing Black Plague that took hold of the Witness first, causing him to grow the giant wing out of his chest.
The Miracle hadn’t used it’s powers in a long time, so it’s ability to carry out what it wants to do is very rusty compared to before (not that before was any better since the Miracle is basically the “Jackass Genie” trope).
@person3231 isnt the guy with the black wings lesmes? because in the menu the icon for killing lesmes is the guy with the black wings. Are the icons independent of the order in which the bosses are killed?
Fun fact: The "Afilaor" boss resembles the typical spanish knife sharpener, a peddler who goes around the streets with a characteristic pan flute melody, which is what sounds in the fight music. Its a traditional job from the 17th century I think but you can still hear them in a lot of places in Spain at least (I think some places outside spain have this too but I'm not sure enough).
As an andalusian I'm so proud of this game and really enjoying all the references and folklore of my culture being in such a good game
Knife sharpeners are universal across all the Hispanic world. We have them in Latin America, too, and their flute is just as iconic to us, as well.
Im from Portugal and we have them aswell, its one of the best boss fights in the game in my opinion
here in south america we still have those afliadores to this day, they move in the streets in a bicicle and use the same pan flute melody. So when you hear that, you know is the afilador coming
Aca en Mexico se llegan a escuchar afiladores aun
No se si en otras partes de latinoamerica tambien
está bien saber que también tenéis afilaores del mismo estilo por allí también, fui a dar un fun fact y me llevé otro jaja
Okay so, the Old Lady with black clothes and a black hand fan (in the dream of the lady who is being mourned) is a reference to an old play called "La casa de Bernarda Alba", in which a mother forces her 5 daughters to stay locked inside the house with her, for god knows how long, to mourn the loss of her husband. It was created by the Grenadian poet Federico García Lorca, whose plays delved deep into the rural parts of Andalusia, talking about common daily problems and the place of women during those times (as a critique). The achievement for completing all the five daughter's trials is called "House of grief and hatred", making the reference even more obvious. The play is also recommended though I don't know if it has an English adaptation.
We did that play in my last year of community college and I kept name dropping it whenever I did these trials, I didn’t think I was actually correct in thinking of it lol
I’m Peruvian and I showed my mom this game, when she was a girl my grandma made her go to an all girls catholic school, and while she isn’t very religious, she said this game scared her, she stated that while the imagery is holy, there is something seriously wrong with it, like something has infiltrated god, which funnily enough, is a prevalent theory about the high wills and miracle in the previous game, and I share her sentiment, the game is unsettling, especially for someone being raised spanish catholic
Svsona is neither of the other ladies. She's based off a Spanish folklore story. If you notice, all of the Two Moons area and music is Arab inspired, and even the prayer you get from Yerma is a Zejel, which is a type of Arab poetry. Is fun to see the devs including a completely different culture in the game, as a nod to the time Spain was under arab control during the middle ages.
Which story is she based on?
@@karlm115 that of Susana Ben Susón
@@nightwynd5663 thanks lad
I'm soo happy they included moorish architecture and culture in this game
The Two Moons area is actually based on a real place in Granada called La Alhambra
Some things from Andalusian point of view.
- Orospina penance's is related to her Botherhood; Sewing the capes and the clothes for scultures and stuff. It's a very hard task to sew gold and silver for all the religious colthing. You can see al the golden thread she uses. Also, there's a lot of spider reference in Orospina concept.
- Benedicta. There's this old tradition to pray for the dead ones and keep an eye on them all night. I think her story is related to an old legend (I will have to investigate more)
- Susona, she is a reference of a real person and a legend. A beautiful jewish woman from XV in Seville, who betrayed her own father and retired in a convent after that. There's also another reference of her in the game. In the shop in the town there's a skull tile atop of the door. That tile is a real one, it was where she lived in life.
- Odon, it isn't told when his ship sunk. Maybe we can consider that's the same ships from the first game, Echo And Shadow. Maybe he had the same penance of silence or maybe his vocal cords are too worn out.
- There's also the old lady frim the challenges. She's a clear reference to Bernarda Alba, from Lorca's play The house of Bernarda Alba, there's other references from the author, like Yerma (the same name of another tragedy play he wrote).
- Montañes is a reference of Juan Martinez Montañes, a very important Andalusian sculptor.
I'm more inclined to believe Odon is fully capable of talking and just chooses not to. With all the other penitents that talk in the game, having him say nothing and instead greet you with a surprise boss fight, says a LOT about the kind of person he is. Straight to the point. If I were to use another character as an example, look at Lexaeus from Kingdom Hearts.
Svsona* can people who play this game not tell the difference between Vs and Us😂
@@samatkinson4331 Bc there isn't a difference, "v" was used like "u" and viceversa until 17-18th Century
This is my analysis of A)How the Miracle came back, and B) The Ending.
The game takes place a long time after the first game (the new holy figure, the Witness, even says "aeons"), and the Miracle has been considered extinct due to not showing up in so long. However, one married couple was having trouble conceiving a child, almost tearing themselves apart, and in utter desperation entrusted themselves to the Miracle to grant them a child. This wish was considered so humble and true that is woke up the Miracle, and granted the wish of the couple whose faith in it hadn't wavered in so long.
However, things didn't go as planned even for the Miracle. It had been out of action for so long that, when it tried to make the child, known as the Witness (the one who said it had been aeons), into a new icon of worship like the Twisted One, the Miracle did an "erring", made a mistake due to its depleted might and the Witness came out both fully-grown and deformed, killing the mother in the process. Failing to incarnate into an icon and only manifesting as disease, it accidentally unleashed an "contagion" of disease, deformity, and pain, that spread through the land that afflicting many innocents lives.
EDIT: Alternatively, as proposed by goldenyak629 below, the Witness is instead the Midwife that was to deliver the child, and the "child" was the disease that failed to be an icon. Which makes sense due to the similar appearance of the Witness and the midwife in the flashback, as well as the Witness' line about how the Miracle _"did fail in its efforts to incarnate, manifesting only in the form of disease, deformity, and pain"._
Yet the gaze and vision of one innocent, looking for any hope in the face of this desolation and relying purely on faith, allowed the Miracle to gain one last chance and was able to shape the wish into a giant heart-womb in the sky, where the birth of the new Child of the Miracle shall soon take place. The Heart is out of reach, watching over the City of the Blessed Name which has been raised by the Regret of three stone figures, represented by the Family: the eminent Father, the merciful Mother, and the counter-figure of the Witness.
For the city to be reached, the Regrets of the three stone figures must be revealed so that they may be humiliated and humbled. The Regrets are hidden by three Guardians, who are in turn protected by the Archconfraternity; five Penitents of different Confraternities that the Miracle took as its sentinels. For the Heart must not be reached before the Child is born.
And soon... the Penitent One awakens from his tomb.
*As for the ending:* Before he fights the Incarnate Devotion, the Penitent One can chose to anoint himself with the Incense of the Envoys, ashes of 4 wooden statues that he can burn. This is hinted by the description outside the door to do this that reads "The Father said _"The Four Envoys wrapped my body in soft linen cloths."_"
According to the Incense description, this marks the body of one who performs the Ultimate Sacrifice thus returning to the heavens, (EDIT)and that the Great Grace will bestow upon them the ultimate forgiveness, the last step in the Way of Penitence.
You see, the Incarnate Devotion, as soon as it's born, is trying to contact the High Wills, as it knows that they are its creators. Yet it doesn't understand *why* it was created, and the High Wills don't answer it because, well, they're dead, leaving an _"obscure darkness of unanswered cries that prevents me from understanding the purpose of my birth."_ It then believes that the Penitent One was sent by the High Wills to judge the Incarnate Devotion, and the fight to serve as _"proof of thy dignity of your glory":_ essentially, its believes that the fight is to prove that the Incarnate is worthy of the High Wills' glory, to be worthy of being their _"magnum opus"._
Without the Incense, the Incarnate decides that the pain the Penitent One deals to him is meant to be a baptism, one that will unite it and the Penitent One together and make that communion flesh, becoming a new symbol of Devotion(EDIT) that brings a second age of the Miracle; the Second Psalm, successfully succeeding the long-dead High Wills.
But with the Incense, this makes the Incarnate start believing that the High Wills are rejecting it, that they are hurting it in responds to questions of its purpose, that they are trying to kill it despite being of the High Wills' flesh and holding their heart. The Incarnate reconciles with the mystery of it birth, accepting that it will go unanswered, and states the Incarnate's punishment and death will be the High Wills' legacy.
(EDIT)This, presumably, is because the Incense of the Envoys marks one as not just making the ultimate sacrifice, but one who will be bestowed the ultimate forgiveness. The High Wills and the Miracle seek devotion through punishment, through penitence. Being given the ultimate forgiveness by the "Great Grace" means the Penitent One... is no longer the Penitent One.
(EDIT)Being blessed by the Great Grace maybe made the Incarnate think that the Penitent One was a representative of the High Wills. Furthermore, the Incarnate cannot be united in communion with a baptism of pain with the Penitent One because, again, the Incense absolves him; they are no longer being punished, no longer in pain. That common element cannot unite the Incarnate and the Penitent One; it is instead a pure being blessed by the "Great Grace" punishing another for seemingly not being worthy, so it just dies without being reborn.
And with the (unwanted)suffering and death of the Incarnate Icon, the High Wills/Miracle's plans fail and the Penitent One is taken by the spirits of the Four Envoys to the highest of heavens, beyond many dreamed kingdoms such as the High Wills/Miracle's Path of Ancient/Eternal Processions, where all the other notable(and good) characters from both games are. Safely watched over for the rest of eternity by these spirits, the Penitent One will be enshrined as a holy figure in the canvas of light and time, his Penance... finally complete.

Let's see what we share in ideas after the video.
EDIT: We were pretty close! Added edits to the theory based on your vid.
I don't play this game, but I do like it's story and have a hard time keeping track of it thanks to its mixture of spanish Christianity and flowery language. So, your comment was very illuminating - and enjoyable - to read. Good stuff.

@@spookydonkey42 I'm mean, Gingy already said pretty much said this, so there's little point.

Idk about yall but the Mistress of Mourning with her Sea of Mourning cloth behind her had to be my favorite imagery from this game. Its just so striking and the sound design is incredible.
That bell toll and cut to black was maybe the coolest part of the game
@@electronicmusicofjapan-emj9882 100 percent. Gave me chills every time.
The room before being filled with people mourning this frail old woman, only to be transported to her true form of a towering matriarch was stunning. And when you beat all the challenges, the quiet room after is just perfect.
I also realized that Crisanta is nowhere to be found in "The Canvas of Light and Time". The Penitent One only reached that place after completing his penance. This could be another indicator at Crisanta coming back, because she might still have a purpose in this world, but that is mostly wishful thinking because they really did her dirty. Overall great video!
well there is the end credit scene after ending A where a red ribbon flies in the wind, most likely one of her crimson ribbons
and no one noticed that the fourth visage wasn't there either.
Imagine if in the DLC you can play as Crisanta, but all the enemies are invisible unless they run or attack
Heyyy new ng+ mode?
Blasphemous 2 is the first game i almost cry on the very beginning. It's very heartbreaking to see the fate of my bro (Diogracias) and my sis (Crisanta).
They always help us when we need them most. But we are not there when they need us most.
Felt man.
I havent played B2 yet, but I know how you feel, just with select experiences from other games.
Cringe
Kinda regret playing B2 first now.
The honey man is based on a famous statue that secreted honey and was thought to be blessed. Reality was that it was hollow and some bees took up residence. Cesareo os based on what I think was a story of a noblewoman who had a beard who when nursing looked like a man doing so. I can't recall the full details, but it's from the first artbook. Afilaor, the boss under Mother of Mothers is based on traveling knife sharpeners from Seville who use flutes to announce their presence.
Can’t wait to get this! Literally bought the first Blasphemous because of your video.
Bro I completed it just yesterday and lemme tell u, u wont regret buying it.
Its awesome and in my opinion def better than first game although it was great too so just stay up with the hype.
Although at some point it will seem a long game to complete cause the story is longer in this game and the map is also larger than the first but don't just give up on it cause of its length cause its worth it in the end.
Good luck and have fun playing it bro and also if u remember then do share ur thoughts after completing it. ❤❤❤
I torrented it cuz le no money but 30€ here and there wont change much
@@NifixD lol. Still play the whole game cause it becomes a little hard sometimes😅
Same. I beat the first one this year during jury duty hahaha
: I noticed there was a VERY strong connection between theft and the NPCs and bosses we encounter as a result of it. Yerma stole the spearpoint she gives us at the beginning of the game, Orospina is a spider preying on the thieves of who try to steal the gold she will eventually wrap them in, Cesareo stole his wife's breast in an act of paternal desperation, Casto stole from the dead only to become intertwined with Death itself, Regula stole the painted face of a saint only to discover her own face had been removed and supplanted on to the statue the paint was originally on, etc. etc.
I don't know how it affects the player's understanding of The Miracle's new manifestation, but I would argue that those who are affected by The Miracle are not exclusively punished - some are granted power to inflict punishment on other wrongdoers, particularly thieves.
I still giggle at the notion of "Boob thief"
Not sure if this is relevant to the stealing but I’ve noticed a lot of hand symbolism in this game. Might be related since you need to take something into your hands to steal but I might just be reaching
@@bostaurus fr what’s the deal with Hand fake idol and his mass murder of his brethren?
To expand on this, I think one of the major themes of the game is "ill-gotten gains" or simply "Fraud" which can include everything from theft to false prophets/gods. The Miracle itself is playing the role of a false god, stealing the faith and prayers of the people that would otherwise presumably reach heaven.
There is a painting by Goya of a man having dinner with a skeleton-like man and it made me think of Cástula and Trifón when I met them, as one of them is a skeleton when you exit and enter the room. I am certain that the team is aware of Goya from analyses of the first game because A Procession of Flagellants by him also seems clearly linked to the esthetic. Also, the trophy for reuniting them is called Old ones eating soup, like the painting.
I've learnt recently that the phase transition of the boss fight with Radamés is also a reference to Saturn Eating His Son, as Radamés takes a similar pose when biting into the corpsicle club.
Minor correction for Regula if you will. She snuck in a famed sculptor's abode to get a sneak peek in the sculptor's latest masterpiece rendition of a holy personality to find the effigy so beautiful and coveted the beauty. She then literally copied the face of the sculpture by pressing a veil into the sculpture's freshly painted face and paraded with the beautiful face as if it was hers. Regula soon found out that in some kind of twisted divine irony notable of Blasphemous, that her original face became that of a bland sculpture when she took off the veil.
As for Regula's unusually huge stature, her dialogue noted that it was part of her punishment.
Apologies for being anal about her storyline cause her's was the one that I was the most invested in the game, regardless of how short it was, still, pretty great vid!
From what I understood, her size wasn't a punishment, on the contrary, it was a gift, as it was the strenght given by the miracle that allowed her to hold the entrance long enough for the penitent to find another way in.
I re-watched the PO's confrontation with High Wills and how they cursed him to forever bear penace due to committing the "ultimate blasphemy."
That means the PO is forever being a penitent. When Miracle resurfaced again, it also affected him unintentionally because someone has to bear the penace for the new guilts and regrets manifested.
Also a potential hook into future DLCs. After Eviterno is defeated and before you ascend, a name is mentioned: the High Dramatist.
A dramatist is s writer of plays which are performed on a stage by actors... and in general an actor or actress PRETENDS in order to play the role they were given.
What is the purpose of this entire play?
"The High Dramatist" is a flavourful way to say "fate" or "God"
since true divine in blasphemous has artistic themes withg pages and canvases, a dramaticist isnt far off from God
@@Mendax5 I feel like they would of said The Miracle then, I do think they are hinting at something else.
@@DeadEye364 The Miracle is similar in qualities to Demiurge, not God though.
Pro tip: You can cheese the Incarnate Devotion fight and kill it in like 2 minutes tops by doing the following
Equip all three fire resist and tier 3 and 2 universal elemental resistance rosary beads if you unlocked all five slots so the boss does poop damage to you
Upgrade the blood sword ability that grants healing for every hit
Wack the boss with the might of penitence until it dies cus you outheal his damage tenfold, enjoy
But devotion incarnate is a literal cakewalk. I shredded him first try with nothing but Ruegi al Alba (the only weapon i use for fights)
For me,the REAL final boss was eviterno and D.I was just an extra xD
Yeah or just get time stop, veredicto and decreased fervour cost of abilities figure and you can cheese both eviterno and devotion
If they're planning a new ending for the DLC i think this would be a great idea- the penitent one now in heaven helps crisanta to complete her penance and also get her to heaven
Please! I was so sad not seeing her there with the rest of the characters 😭
my #1 question about this game is the afterlife. in the first game, we get to see the endless procession, and we destroy the high wills there. but in this game, the three regrets all describe the afterlife as "black gates, from which one never awakes." clearly something happened to the afterlife that belongs to the worshipers of the miracle and i hope they explore it more in a dlc
Loved the video, and while this add nothing to theorys or plot or stuff. If you go back to your starting point/former resting place the Spirit of the Dog of the first game has a chance to appear, barks at you, wags its tail and leaves, such a small wholesome cameo that kinda gives the Penitent One and the player a "Feels Good" Moment that he and our allies are still with us in these trying times....and hell it gets confirmed in the good ending were they were waiting for us
Every prayer is named after a variant of spanish music, mostly flamenco. Liviana is not the girl's name (probably), but the type of song the penitent performs to call on the prayer
The talking hand is definitely a reference to a early medieval art trend of the Manus Dei at the time was a way of depicting God's intervention/blessing in artwork.
The man in the third image of the story isn’t their son, he’s the shirtless midwife guy near the mother in the second image. He got infected by whatever came out and started mutating with angel wings. The Witness is the guy who witnessed the birth and survived
NO WAYY i was ready for b2 to take a few months but u came in clutch. You're the reason I actually started reading item descriptions in games thank you!!
Well, thing I catch from this is about interesting detail about the penitents, such as a fact each confraternities representing four archangel from thier backstory to thier fight
-Orospina(earth,justice)
For embroidered her victims like spider spreading its web, especially it confirmed most of her victims so far are thieves
-Benedicta(air,temperance)
For being kept alive simply to eternally do her job
-Lesmes(fire,fortitude)
For keep bottle up for never bluntly angry to miracle for things happened against his will
-Odon(water,wisdom)
Obviously for his background as sailor
Also it might be a theory. The reason behind Cresanta's suicide is based from a dialogue when facing Eviterno that stated anyone facing him shall be declare as the last of penitent and the problem came from his penance that he has to waiting which at this case facing other penitent. So after injured Cresanta took her life to make her won't be the last as the fight result will conclude Eviterno's penitence and the only way to confront Devotion Embody by win to conclude Eviterno's penitence
You, my man, are literally doing God's work ❣ I was eager for a lore video and did not expect that we would be getting one so soon!
It’s always games that are gruesome and dark that tend to have good stories hidden away within them
The timing on this is perfect, I watched the first video a little over a week ago while going through the Gingy back catalogue. Thanks for the in depth video
One thing to consider: The final boss, Devotion Incarnate, says "Higher Will" and then calls that higher will "Fathers", so it's likely that the Devotion Incarnate is the final manifestation of the High Wills from the first Blasphemous game. A last ditch effort of that old faith to be reborn through The Miracle to connect the past to the present.
Ive been wondering about the same topic since i finished the game. Did the Miracle intentionally want to create a being using the "pieces" of the HWs or is the DI a backup plan of the Wills in case the Miracle went out of control?
No, he is a manifestation of the Miracle itself. The Higher Wills created the Miracle and used it as a sort of tool to inspire devotion and gain power. With the Wills gone, people slowly lose their faith, weakning the Miracle to the point that it almost disapeared too. It has been using its power to survive and try to inspire devotion, but withaut the Wills it is not that proficient in this or is just much more desperate to survive. Finally, it creates a body for itself so it can live without the need for devotion (or as a unlimited fountain of it since people only need to see the incarnation) but it is still without a pourpose. The Heigher Wills where the ones who give it its reason to be before, but now they ara gone and the Miracle, no more desperate to survive, can stop to think on what to do now. This is the reason Devotion calls for the Higher Wills as their "Fathers", because he is the Miracle itself and their creation. At least thats what it looks like to me.
The reason why you talk with the witness in such a random place is that you are not meant to go there so early. There is a point in the church where the real witness is where you can't progress without the double jump you get after fighting Afilaor, but by how the game is structured there is nothing avoiding you do it after you get all three weapons so you can end there before you even go to the high temple.
As for Enunciada, in her last dialogue she mentions the High Dramatist which could be refering to the final boss but may be an unknown entity we don't know of yet.
Also my personal theory about the Miracle is that it doesn't have an agency of it's own. As I see it the Miracle is just a wish granting force that just makes as it is asked. However at some point the people of Cvstodia started being aware of this force and started praying to it in a more direct way and personalicing it and this is what eventually caused the Higher Wills to be born, as the Miracle was just answering their prayers, as well as he did with the child and the heart in the sky.
9:21 So basically, the Miracle turned Lesmes into a medieval Krang from TMNT.
as a Catholic school student, former teacher and near miss from a monastery the lore is just perfect. It's incredible how insane a lot of Catholic beliefs seem when presented in this game world
And this is the gross but fun aspect of Catholicisim! It's usually very boring!
Finally!!! I've been literally looking for a story analysis for the past week.
I believe Lesmes and Quirce are two sides of the same coin. Quirce was sentenced to death for his crimes but the Miracle was merciful to him, whom it fully resurrected using the flames he was burned with. Lesmes was also executed for unknown crimes and brought back by the Miracle, but unlike Quirce his resurrection was another form of punishment. As now he was trapped inside a metallic body and could feel deep down he was still dead
i was (and am) on the verge of tears thinking about the ending of the canvas of space and time and i am more than hyped for whatever they want to do with that lonely crimson ribbon blown in the wind, this is one of THE best games ever created
I legit have been on the fence about playing it tbh.
But i think imma cave and give it a shot.
@@zelestial1681 like every game it has it's flaws but if you like a rich story and a good gameplay/combat/platform game i cannot recommend it more, but make yourself a favour and mark every part of the map with a cherub when you find them and every part of the map that was unexplorable
@@mr.tosciro4025 will do :)
Another banger let’s go been waiting for this!!!
Thank you so much for this! Loved this and I’m so glad you did this one as well! Truly one of the best videos of yours!
Although I shall still pray for a video on Pathologic 2 amen
Note for any1 who cares, the little line on a vowel indicates thats the strong sillable of the word, for example radamés, the e has a line, meaning the mes sillable is the strong one, so instead of the pronounciation used in the video you would pronounce it enunciating the mes sillable as the strong one instead of the da one (the word being divided in the sillables ra-da-més). It doesnt matter much but hey, heres some spanish for all of you :D
One of the things that confuse me the most is that the Child of the Miracle seemed to be okay with either outcome. When he dies he is also at peace and says he understands his purpose now, just as when he merges. The child mentions he is one with the Miracle, meaning this could also have been some sort of a final test for the Penitent One and the people of Cvstodia. Lose, and I get to watch over you and impose my will, win, and you are prepared to live without my interference.
I was waiting impatiently to see you review blasphemous two, your video on the first one truly is one of my favourites. Much love, continue like that Gingy!!!
LOL I was JUST watching your Blasphemous 1 video! Great timing Gingy :D
This is what Im waiting for since its release. I don't even play this game or the first one but since you explaining the story of this game before make me love this game and curious about the story in this game
Love your video man
Another great video as always!!
Congrats on 300k gingy
Damn you work fast. Im still playing through the second game so I'm gonna watch this later. Loved your last blasphemous video so I have high hopes for this one.
Been waiting for this video for a long time and it did not dissapoint!
I was exploring blasphemous 3 like a fiend and dropped into the mother of mothers way too early (and couldn’t make it very far) and it was like a punch to the gut. All I had been thinking about is how lonely the penitent one must have been, to find connections and wake up and have them not only be gone, but dust and scattered words, secondhand lines carved in a statuette or half a prayer half remembered, and then I descend to that holiest of places. That I had to fight SO HARD to get to the first time. A fragment of the golden mask, that talks about a long forgotten convent. A crumbled statue of a man bent forward, hands behind his back, almost lost behind a crumbled wall. The knot of the three words, and deogracias’ words as the penitent one remembered them, echoing through a lonely hall, the warm reverence hollow in the dusty air.
The trophy you get for beating the first boss is called A Thousand Years, but it doesn’t really feel that way until you descend to the mother of mothers, and realize that even that figure 8, representative of the twisted one and thus the miracle, has long been forgotten and lies crumbled in the background. And then you feel more alone than ever.
Just finished Blasphemous 2, and I'm just amazed. Triple A studios need to start taking notes.
Loved this deep dive into the game's lore. I beat it last week (was on staycation lol so I had some extra time) and I enjoyed it more than the first one as it was a bit easier to play despite having some boss fights that made me want to rage lol. This video gave me a lot more insight into the story that I missed while playing.
You pulled this out fastest than I could plat the game. Well done!
Awesome!! Love your channel
I just finished watching your Hollow Knight lore explanation, you mentioned in the video that you would be talking about Blasphemous soon, I was very excited but thought I would have to wait. imagine my surprise seeing this brand new video pop up
THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO.
Thank you for these videos! I am intensely interested in the story and art from both games but hate playing this genre, so your videos are perfect
Amazing videos both about blasphemous 1 and 2 I love how much thought you put into it with learning the cultural and religious backgrounds and even spinning theories of your own. I’m excited to see what will become of Crisanta I hope it will be a DLC where we play her. In the meantime if you look for something to do a lore video on try Fear and Hunger it’s an amazing game as well If you loved blasphemous you might like this one and the lore is similarly complex and multi leveled I would love to see your take on it :)
Can’t believe how much ur channels grown gingy I remember watching ur for honor vids/ live streams
Damn what are the odds, I just watched the Blasphemous 1 video like 2 days ago. Good shit, looking forward to more videos.
Great vid Gingy
Finally been waiting for this vid
Absolutely stellar video and beautiful game!
I love lore and you do a great job of explaining things. Great listen while I drive to the job site
Another excellent video! Well said and interpreted. My nagging issue though is Crisanta's role in Blasphemous 2. I'm hoping that the DLC will shed more light on her exploits after the first game .
I just watched your first analysis on the series yesterday!!
Lore time!!!
Beat it a couple days ago and I was completely content with waiting a while for this video to come out. but nope, you are right on top of it
Homie just made cleaning my tools in my shed much less boring. Was looking forward to this vid thanks man
FINALLY DO U KNOW HOW LONG IVE BEEN LOOKING THIS UP FOR
your the best one that makes lore videos ❤
Yes been waiting for gingy to drop a B2 lore video!
i had never heard of blasphemous until your other video (which i JUST watched last night and went down a deep dive), and although i probably won't play them myself since metroidvanias aren't really my cup of tea, im super excited for this. the stories and lore seem really interesting
Been waiting for this 🎉
I loved this game so much!!!! Blasphemous 1 is one of my top favorites games of all time so seeing a part 2 is just my bread and Butter!
Watched the video on the first game this morning. To watch an other video on the second game the same day is truly a Miracle
great content as always. My wish for this Xmas is for you to do essay on Fear & Hunger and its sequel!
not being a native english speaker and the subtitles constantly referring to the penitent one as ‘the paddington’ sure was a nugget of fun during the story of a game that is so bleak and despairing. anyway, loved the video, thx for the quality content ❤
Thanks for making this
Great video. I'd love to see you tackle more metroidvanias
thanks for making this :P
Great lore as always
Great video as always! Reminded me of a game called Deaths Gambit that I think would really like . Its another dark metroidvania with a great story, secrets, and gameplay. With the updated version of the game and the dlc release it has become one of my favorite games of all time.
I've been waiting for this
I was waiting for this
great video mate
your first video made me play blasphemous 1, i had dropped it and picked it up again bc the story was so fire
i cant believe a lot of people missed the boss at the sacred grounds....literally the best boss in the game lol amazing video as always
Amazing video again
loved the game to bits, just got the platinum trophy and I think we'll probably get more story on the dlcs to come involving Crisanta, maybe what led her to battle Eviterno and finally committing suicide. I'm pretty sure there's more to come and still as awesome as the rest of the series has been.
Been waiting on this 😅
And when we needed him most, he came back. ty Gingy
I love that I'm learning things about my country and culture thanks to the game and the video.
Ty
Brooooo! Thank you for everything.
Great video as always! My only regret is watching it while eating dinner.
one of my favorite moments was when i found out that the twisted one is actually in the background of the room where we start the game. i got goosebumps when i saw him
I think it's just supposed to be an effigy of him
