HI, GOOD VIDEO, I WOULD JUST LIKE TO ADD THAT I AM A PRO MYSELF AND HAVE FOUND THAT WHEN I SPRAY THAT MUCH THROTTLE BODY CLEANER I HAVE RUN INTO HYDRO LOCK TROUBLE, I HELD THE THROTTLE BODY OPEN WITH THE ENGINE OFF FOR ABOUT TEN MINUTES TO ALLOW THE CLEANER TO EVAPORATE THANKS IF YOU READ THIS

I just followed the video and right after I put her back together, I fired her up and she shook like a dog, smoked my whole driveway up. I raved the engine 1 time and then it idled like a champ. I wish I kept the flow open for a few minutes now.

Just had a friend come to me with rough idle/stalling. As it has over 200,000 miles on it I decided to check a few things before assuming anything. Turns out the spark plugs were Way Past due to be replaced (gap was nearly .80 instead of .42) And they were the wrong plugs. Almost 1/2” short!!! In addition I found a vacuum leak and an intermittent coil pack. Runs like a bandit now! So, before getting knee deep in a repair always verify the simple stuff.

Great job nice DIY video.. My car would shut off when I turn on the AC.. and this was exactly the problem.. it started when I had removed my battery plugs to replace my stereo to an aftermarket.. The car started fine afterwards and idle good but I went to turn on the AC and it started jumpin a bit after 2-3 times it would shut off.. at first I thought I wired something wrong so I switched the radio back to OEM.. but the same problem kept arising.. turns out the CPU was reading dirty throttle.. this helped so much and saved me money.. Thanks!!

  • @freedomdiggersmetaldetecti8964

You should never push open a throttle body! Doing this can damage the electric motor that opens it when the accelerator pedal is pushed. Instead, have a helper turn the key to ON without starting the engine, and hold the pedal down or use a heavy object to do so.

Removing it is the best way to get the job done because you can access all parts of the throttle blade and body. But you really don't need to do this every time you clean it. Once you have removed it and done a thorough cleaning, if you keep up with regular maintenance type cleaning it should not be necessary to remove it every time.

Thanx for the video. I recently had an issue with my horn, it didn't work. Did some youtubing to fix the the problem and was told to disconnect the battery so the airbag would not go off. No problem, made repairs , horn works. Just one problem, rough idle when i put the air on to the point that it stalled every time. Disconnected battery and reconnected to see if the problem would rectify itself, no dice. Anyway, i read one of your viewers comment and he was changing a speaker system and disconnected his battery and he also got the issue i had. But for chicks and giggles he took your advice and cleaned out the throttle box and it worked! I could only hypothesize that the throttle box butterfly must go into deep closure scraping excess carbons and creating a build up at the inner circumference wall. As i see it.
Sorry for the long explanation, hope it helps. Peace

I have an 03 that has had a rough idle for years. I Replaced the throttle body, the coils, harmonic balance, spark plugs, intake gaskets , all the evap sensors, transmission mount, and tuned it up. And still a rough idle. Finally I’m going to change the fuel rail and injection. I hope that helps. If not I’m sending it to pick a part.

Take the throttle body off to fully clean it. Not sure what "problems" he could be referring to. It is unhooking on connector, 1 hose and 4 bolts that are all easy to get to. To get it really clean you will need something like a tooth brush to really get all the carbon off. It takes maybe 5-10 extra minutes but it will look brand new and work much better. The back side of the throttle body will look much much dirtier than the front.

I just bought my 2004 Envoy knowing it would need some work. After taking a 600 mile trip it started running rough and would often stall at red lights. Then I noticed as I was traveling at the posted 45mph speed the engine was accelerating to 45 and then coasting to about 42-43mph, and then back again. A mechanic suggested I start by cleaning the throttle body. Then I found that the fuse box under the hood had been burnt. Both solid state relays were ruined and a couple mini relays were welded together, and many others looked to be in bad shape. I've replaced all of that - the box and most of the relays and fuses. Sounded bad when I restarted the engine. My code said that the 3rd cylinder (4.2 I6) was misfiring. So I replaced that coil pack and all the spark plugs. Sounds worse now. My code said the 3rd cylinder (4.2 I6) was misfiring. I replaced that coil pack and all the spark plugs. The new code from the scanner says 'Random / Multiple Cylinder Misfiring Detected'. I think my SUV will need to do more than just relearn how to idle. Please help.

Hey my auto mechanic, do you know where I can purchase an inexpensive code reader? I also have a 2006 Chevy Trailblazer and it is currently having the same exact issue. I noticed in this video that you disconnected the battery to reset the idling, unfortunately this will not reset the check engine light. I really appreciate this thorough video, in fact, it is the best one yet when it comes to this specific problem. I have spent $1500 thus far with "tune ups" and "number 1 misfire codes" , according to my mechanic. I'm usually the drop the car off to get it fixed kind of woman until my Chevy Traverse started having problems. I will let you know how this turns out after working on both vehicles this weekend, as I have become a more "Do It Yourself" kind of woman. Thanks again for this dummy proof video.

I understand that you should never manually open or close the throttle body when cleaning or, use Carb cleaner which removes the coating on the inside of it. Stepper motor damage etc, when moving it manually or with key On. Sometimes you have to remove fuses under the hood #10 and #28 for 15 minutes to get TBSensor to reset.

I thought spraying in the throttle body like that could risk hydro lock and also the learning of the throttle position since there is no accelerator cable?

My trailblazer vibrates at idle more in drive but still in park. I cleaned the throttle body, replaced all ignition coils and spark plugs, changed air filter and it still does it

hey but you suppose to remove the TB and clean it on a safe place no still attached to the engine, all the debri will go to the combustion chambers in the cylinders!

I noticed that when I pulled the air box off there was some fuel inside. Where is it coming from?

I disconnected the battery terminals after cleaning, is that an issue?

i chanģed battery on my 04 trailblazer. and since then it stalls at redlight or when i turn heater blower on, the idle rumbles and almost stalls. spark plugs are new. battery new. so i am going to clean my throttle .
if its not throttle, what else could cause this idle issue. it all started after battery was disconnected

  • @shecathellraizerme2022

I had an alternator replaced and removal of battery cables caused one of the actuators in my a/C to fail. I don't wanna go through that again

  • @armandomarin-arias4021

If the throttle body is not removed, wouldn't the engine suck in the crud and soil particles when it is started?

You didn't mention to reconnect the vacuum line at the front left side of the air box. Not good if you forget!

Great video. I have a 2000 Ford Taurus Duratec Engine. Engine light was not on but I got a smog check and was told car did not pass due to engine code P0506. After the smog check the engine light is now on. Funny thing is the tachometer says the car is idyling at 900 rpm which indicates to me the car is not idyling too slow. So, how could the computer think it is idyling too slow? What could be causing this code?

I'm guessing you junked the car by now. Don't know why there's no responses.
Anyhow I really suspect your problem was a fouled EGR valve.
