    We called it, "Egg in a Basket." I use margarine (so it won't burn) on both sides of the bread, with a small dab in the hole in the slice of bread so that the egg doesn't stick to the pan. They taste great! Another breakfast special is, "Pigs in a blanket." Fry up some sausage links, let them cool, then take a raw, uncooked biscuit, wrap the biscuit around the sausage link, then cook them just like you'd cook your biscuits. Good stuff!

    Man that was some dry sounding and looking hardwood! In softwood country here we would almost kill for that dense wood full of BTU's! I was wincing when I saw that knife tip smashing into hardwood, but it came through OK - a knife to depend on for the bush.

    Great video Joe! My dog Ben does the same thing with the wood I have gathered!
    And he doesn't mess around with the fire either.
    Yesterday I found a little bit of gravel beside my stream and decided to cook supper there instead of digging into the deep snow we still have here in PEI. I wanted to try lighting beech leaves with my ferro rod. I had everything ready to go and then along comes Ben out of the water and shakes and soaks everything!! Fortunately I also had some birch bark also.
    Super was haddock, curried shrimp rice, along with a fortified hot chocolate...

    Thanks for this film - really enjoyed it. That certainly looks a first class knife, beautiful as well as functional. I live in Scotland, American goods are really expensive here, due to import duties and taxes. I use a Casstrom field knife, from Sweden, which looks to be a similar shape and design, though with a plainer hilt. I have several puukko and Leuku type knives - they suit Scottish conditions. Thanks again for sharing the adventure.

  • @timsbushcraftandoutdoors7634

    Nice video! You have good knife and axe skills and i agree with you…Theres more than one way to do the job and I guess if there were a set of rules we felt we needed to adhere to we wouldn't be the types that want to be in the woods…A million sticks in the woods and Scout wants the ones you work on! Has he ever pulled one out of the fire and ran off with it?? Take care and good job! Tim

    • @josephallen19

    @grisbosque2614 Před 10 lety

    nice videos...
    on the knife; I use the sand paper and block method too, usually down to 2000 grit.. I dont care much for Scandi grinds, due to the obtuse bevel getting in the way for woodwork etc.
    also it makes sharpening much slower, so I put a secondary bevel like used on engraving tools to make a duplex bevel nearer the blade back... this works really well, as its not as weak as a wedged profile, and still sharpens faster than trying to grind off 1/4 inch bevel to get to sharp...

    Have you been watching V for Vendetta? Eggs in a basket (Although I much prefer Jimmy Russell's Father in Laws name!! :D). Its a good way to cook eggs outdoors…and conserve all that 'essential' bacon fat! *nom nom*
    Getting the hole the right size & temperature control, so you don't frazzle your bread before the egg is done, are key …oh and …good job Joe.
    For liam meakin - 'Toad in the hole' is Yorkshire pudding cooked with whole sausage(s) in it….NOT Sausage & Mash (or correctly 'Bangers & Mash') *rolls eyes*

    Sawing wood up is 10 times easier than using an Axe or Hatchet...no foot , hand , finger, or leg injuries either....gunna' be a long walk home if that axe glances off or misses...A Saw is much lighter too....I use a Stanley "Shark Tooth" Carpenters hand saw....it has better ergonomics than a Pruning saw.

I just revisited NativeSurvival for his blizzard camp two-parter: he got smoked out of his tarp set-up in the middle of the night. You demonstrate a different set-up here and the weather looks a whole lot different: would your set work in a blizzard with a good sleeping bag and a bivvy? If you would need to modify it, what would you suggest to the rest of us?
