1962 Tonka Drag Line Mobile Crane Digger Restoration Dragline

- I purchased this 1962 Tonka Dragline Crane on eBay December 18th 2021 for $134.14. The crane was amazingly complete for being 60 years old with no major issues outside of having extensive rust and dirt build up. The cranes boom assembly was bent up very badly and the body had multiple dings. After sandblasting the body showed many rust pits which I filled with JB weld and sanded flat. Overall I love how this toy cleaned up and how well it looks now. Thanks soo much for watching!

I had a few Tonka trucks growing up. When I went into the Air Force, my younger brother gave them all to a neighbor kid.
My favorite was the drag line crane. In 1964 when my parents had this house built. My drag line crane dug the first scoop for the basement. A real tracked drag line did dig the basement.
Thanks for sharing this. I have a one-owner 1960 Tonka B-220 State Turnpike set that was under my family's Christmas tree for me in 1960. The roadsigns did not survive my childhood, but 64 years later the set is on top of my storage cabinets in my shop. I should reset the rivet that holds the crane to the truck chassis as it is wobbly, but I think I'll keep it in the as-played-with condition of my childhood.
These are the ones I like best. My nick name when I was little was Diggers. Thanks for the great entertainment.
No annoying music, no talking, plenty of info, beautiful shots, masterful work.
Incredible. I had my tonsils out when I was seven years old and my mom and my dad got me this very same bucket lifter as a gift for being in the hospital. Thanks chip for the incredible memories. Keep up the great work.
no higher honor or respect can be bestowed upon someone who has painstakingly restored these distressed toys . these toys have mysterious powers that have brought joy and enchantment to us and we personally thank you for this wonderful entertainment . regards; mr and mrs claus and elfin family . ; ]
Beautiful Restoration of one of my favorite Tonka Models…I have a New in the Box Yellow Dragline and a well Loved Green Sandbox Model….
A great restoration. I spotted a new tool I had not seen before when you were taking the tracks off. My mother would say, "You have the patience of a saint." Thank you for another visit to your workshops.
oh!!! little Beaker!!
stunning beautiful jaw-dropping restoration!!!!
Thank you for not having annoying music or adds or talking. Just having the basic videos. Great work.
awww what an affectionate pet owner. little Beaker loves you so much. your interaction is so sweet
Love how that J-B Weld works to fill in the pits, but I cannot imagine the repetitive motion aches and pains you endure sanding these parts. I would be constantly seeking an mechanical alternative! 😉 Beaker’s reaction to the paracord is precisely how my cat would react… she’s starting to be a real scene-stealer! Thanks as always for great entertainment and knowledge, Chip! 👍👍👍 ~John
Thank you Primus54!!! Yup, I love the performance of the JB weld, has definitely worked well for me, but yes... my muscle between my thumb and pointer finger takes the brunt of the pain ha. Beaker is definitely becoming a character, she'll be 2 years old May 14th of this year. She's a very spoiled kitty haha.
@@ChipChannelRestorations I love how she inspected the finished product including giving the line a tooth test.
@@ChipChannelRestorations
There’s no point in having a pet if you’re not going to spoil it.
@@Ambidexter143 Totally agree!
@@ChipChannelRestorations Spoiled and getting fat too. I have a few spoiled critters of my own.
your kitters eyes are SUPER pretty, I love the color
Thank you so much! Beaker (the kitty) says HI!
@@ChipChannelRestorations AWWW!!! I love Beaker, they're so adorable
I love watching you restore these vehicles.... My husband is amazed at how many you have!
It's become somewhat of an addiction... If I don't admit to it being a problem ... it's not a problem right?! haha
I don't know why, but the blasting of old paint and rust, and seeing pristine metal underneath is my favorite part of the videos! Keep up the excellent work!
One of my favorite parts as well! Thanks again for watching Floyd Drew Jr!
No doubt Mine as well Made me feel like a little kid " I want to do some ! Let me try ! Lol

The sheep are missing, did you forget to open the barn and let them out today lol 🤣 great job as always Chip Channel, and I thought Beaker was going to eat the new ropes on the Tonka the way she was sniffing there, she's a good inspector
Glad to find another restoration channel like this! No music or commentary, just the sound of the work being done and getting to see the process from start to finish.

What a great restoration.Nice job. It was quite a large toy. Carol from California
I swear, if I had a sandblaster and an endless supply of rusty metal, I would be a happy person. 🙂
Me too!
Maybe you have the biggest Tonka collection in the universe ❓😉👍
Good morning Chip! 👍
Good morning Bill Mulholland! Have a great day!
@@ChipChannelRestorations thanks bud. You as well 🤝
Two thumbs way Up on this restoration !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great job 👏 man if these toys could talk, I’d listen for hours and hours.
You and me both! I wish there was a way to see it's life. Who had it and what it all lived through! the real toy story! Thanks for watching michawfmh!
I watch every video you post. You’ve inspired me to try my hand at restoring some old tonka’s. All I’ve been able to find are the typical late 70’s dump truck and one 80’s dump truck that’s smaller than the big yellow 70’s one.

and its the first time your cat is interested in one of your fine restorations lol
Another beautiful job a pleasure to watch.
They had the best toys ... shame our kids grow up with plastic junk. Thank you for preserving our past.
Meticulous craftsmanship - a work of art. The older rusted version held a real charm. Still, in all, Uda Mon!
Another fine restoration right there even the cat agrees. Keep up the good work.
👌😳👍wow! I’m impressed with this one! I have one just like that one that it looked way better than that one used to look! Now that one looks way better than when it was new! 👌🥰👍

I didn’t have this Tonka, but I do have the Ants in the Pants game. That brought back great memories from the early 70’s. Great job! Thanks for the video.
You were lucky today. Tha catspector was only testing the tension of the cables. She knows what is important , safety wise , on a crane .
The attention for all the small things is outstanding . Bravo !
It really is a pleasure watching you work
great job and i love your cat !
Thank you! 😊 I will tell beaker hi for you and give her some ear scritches. Thanks for watching lechevallier thierry!

I think it's cool how you restore vintage metal toys to make them look like new. Keep it up and gool job.

Outstanding restoration of one of the more interesting Tonkas.
Immaculate workmanship with a perfect result. I love this one and cannot believe the tracks are the original ones. Beautiful.
Absolute perfection once again!
That joint where the boom folds pinched my fingers so many times as a kid I had anxiety watching Chip messing with it lol.
One more old time toy brought back to life with your fine know how 👍
So cute... 60 years old. 🤩🤩

Awesome job. Keep up the work and videos! I love your channel all the way from AZ,
An amazing restoration. Such a cute kitty.
You have a beautiful collection of restored trucks.
I'm impressed how many common parts there are between all these models. This to the mobile crane, to any of the normal trucks!
Absolutely amazing work!!!!
Beautiful~ Amazing Job! an old classic given new life!
Another fine restoration! I'm amazed that the tracks were not only still on the model, but could be saved as well. They look brand new after cleaning! Very surprised they were not a cracked, dried out mess... Well done!
Thanks soo much WHJeffB!! They were surprisingly in great shape. Must not have spent a ton of time in the sun. Thanks again for watching!
