Andy! Andy! I moved from NOttingham to a really small village in Maine 15 years ago. A couple of years back I met a neighbour who lives in the woods and he mentioned "My favourite musician". I asked him who that was and he said "Andy Partridge"! Two us in a little village in Maine! Brilliant. No need to fuss and fight.
amazing singer and songwriter - don't need another voice, although Colin was also fantastic. What a thrill if you did one more tour.....there are people who missed out and no matter how you feel you sound, you are incredible - a true musical treasure. Carry that load for our sake and let us hear you for one last time?
Great clip. When Andy says he's a bad singer or whatever, he's obviously not a bad singer but it's the imperfections and accent of his voice that makes their songs so unique and catchy.
Seen em in 70s, Tonypandy in wales ,it was all rock bands then ,they plyd fck they were good,we ended up in Swindon uni supporting them with solid air, great boys
Np and thanks to XTC Convention 2022 who made it happen. I'm just the editor and guy with a channel to distribute it. Full interview is an hour long, I'll publish it when The Big Express 5.1 has preorders to try giving those more visibility / sales boost.
Doing the donkey work is part of the price you pay for being a control freak. I should know. It's something that we bring on ourselves. Not a criticism, just an observation. Big fan of XTC. Thanks.
@@brandonhusken529 Andy often did seem to be a bit heavy hitting with the interviews, too. Colin just didn't seem to want to say much, though he did comment on occasion.
Not biblically accurate, if you actually want accuracy. Stuff happens in heaven, but a lot is different from common events here on earth. Heaven, though, *isn't* a location at all.
Message for Andy, just take all these songs I know you’ve been writing, round up the other two, call up your pal Todd, and do a new XTC album! And tour! because you’re too old to have stage fright now, it would be heaven!
XTC have had their time, and all the ex-band members know it. Let's be grateful for the huge catalogue of musical brilliance they left us without wanting to squeeze even more out of them against their will.

Andy being cripplingly hard on himself regards singing...those noises he refers to were the meat of the early XTC sound and he was brilliant even when he toned it down in later years, Colin was great too...they all were.
First they made a mark by touring. Then made some money with a couple of hits. But not much at all. Question: Do you think now with apple music, youtube ,etc. are there musicians that make money without touring?
XTC were the sum of different parts as both Colin and Dave could sing as well as being insanely good instrumentalists. Together they were unstoppable….. Sad that they never got the financial dues they all should have got. It’s yet another lesson in abject dereliction of responsibility by unscrupulous record companies.
Colin did a great job in "King for a Day". But, I thought Andy was a pretty darn good singer. It's too bad that they were all kind of beaten down by crooked managers of the music industry. It happens.
He wasn't live ! He struggled with some songs, and made silly noises instead of singing the songs as intended . He was very good with ballards, but he struggled when he had to reach the high notes and he knows it.
Mr P always has a mythological way of making it seem like he shit on gold because the gremlins were attracted to the glint of the gold and they might eat everyone's soul. A myth, but without a hero? Okay, so XTC was saved from being famous and rich. Good job? Heheeheh .. (Not that the ashes are cold and the salamander is dead.) Jus teasin' ewe

I would be thrilled if I could sing as good as Andy, I am not a bad singer but I love Andy's voice.

He was an absolutely compelling stage presence and a brilliant, brilliant singer. Shame he couldn't/can't see this.
Cool guy ,Good interview
Those "noises" on Rocket from a Bottle are absolutely brilliant.
Love his singing voice. So unique.
A true musical genius....

Always a hero of mine.
For me he is a great singer and songwriter, one of the best musicians of all time without a doubt
Thanks for posting. Great clips.

Very true. He was the biggest personality, the lead vocalist and therefore the one people wanted to hear from.

Heaven - heaven is a place - a place where nothing - nothing ever happens....
Fewer and fewer people will read this in David Byrne’s voice, until no one will ever again.

I thought it was paved with broken glass.
@101Volts What happens in Heaven?
Senses of working overtime jesus
I wasn't the only one laughing at Andy's impression of Dave, right? :D 04:23 - 04:27
An XTC convention sounds pretty nerdy.......but I love it! Great video!!
Haha hey don't get me started on how fun the Conventions are!

I don’t think it’s that simple but a guy could dream lol
Too late now. He’s like 70 and has said is dealing with some health issues. I don’t thing the rigors of touring would be healthy. But I do love XTC
They could still release new music. He's doing it with 3 Club Men. Why not get the band back together and do a new record. @@robertjamesonmusic

@@whouster Oh bullshit, I think they would do it in a heartbeat, I bet he’s got 1 million ideas going on… as do the others
I wonder why most people continue to think that touring with a rock band is a romantic thing.
Love the Dukes.

What the fuck Andy is a great singer! And I love the weird ass noises he'd make.
Andy and XTC were lucky to live in a time where a band didn’t have to tour to make a paycheque.
First they made a mark by touring. Then made some money with a couple of hits. But not much at all.
Question:

Do you resent them?
XTC are infinitely more important than every two bit pop artist in the charts today and only made 1/1000th of their income.
Say some people got together and created something, where would the go, Shaftsville?@@BMXOPHY

There's an interview here with that crooked manager Ian Reid. He wears a gold watch.
Partridge never recovered from Nigel. XTC just survived but could never go back to there.
Why do you think you are not a good singer?
And those noises that you call theatre, that are mood pieces to underscore the words and sounds.
