I made this for dessert at an Italian anniversary party. Kids went crazy for it, grandma and grandpa LOVED it, and I was happy to share your tutorial. I did use a bit of vanilla extract and a couple of tablespoons more gelatin so I could cut the blocks smaller.
Hello! this is Mrs. Kanaha from INDIA, THANK YOU FOR YOUR JELLO RECIPE, which i have been longing to make for my children,as i make marshmelo easily i can do it tomorrow itself.
@@HawaiianCanCook I bought it from a local asian grocery store here. I haven't seen it sold in many places. The brand is called SWAD. You can search online to see if they sell it online or near you.
That is a good point. For example, laab is actually a Lao dish since it originated in Laos. It was introduced to Thailand during the Lao migration into those regions of Thailand.
@soniavang Yes, it hardens pretty fast (depending if you use 1 cup vs 3/4 cup gelatin). It is Knox Unflavored Gelatin that I use. I buy it in a large can so I can make several batches at a time. :-)
@leeazn4eva You can buy the 16 oz can (Knox unflavored gelatin in a large orange can) on Amazon. Or you can buy the individual packets at any large supermarket by the jello aisle.
@pockeythaostah5 You can use Agar Agar, but it will break easier and is not as flexible. You can find unflavored gelatin at large supermarkets. It is found in the jello aisle.
Love the recipe. Made a Hugh batch for a family gathering. Use less sugar cause of the old folks. Jello came out great with nutty coconut taste. Thanks for the recipe. BTW you can by the 8 oz version with 16 packets in it. Cost me 10 dollars. If I remember correctly, used 8 packs total.
@rchang04 I found it at Woodman's here in Madison. You can try large super markets. Or you can buy it from Amazon. I just saw a link on Amazon that sold it for $15.30 for a 16 oz can. The color of the can is orange.
@hmongyanggirl Yes, that is the downside to the small envelope gelatin packs. Try it first and if you like it, you can buy the large 16 oz unflavored gelatin (orange color) can on Amazon.
@F4MuHSx The brand I used is called Knox Unflavored Gelatin. It is in the aisle where the jello are. This gelatin has no flavor, it is just plain. You can use any brand. I usually buy a large can so I can make a couple batches. If you can't find a large can, you might have to buy the small packages.
@GreyGooseVodka555 Make sure you use boiling hot water. The chilled layer does not need to be completely solid, add the next color when it is stable enough to hold the next layer. If you find that your separate layers are freezing up before its added to the main jello, you can put it on top of a bath of hot water. Hope this helps.
Usually if you use boiling hot water, the last color should not set until put in the fridge. The layers in the fridge do not need to be all solid, just strong enough to hold the next layer.
@rasany Are you referring to the green/yellow layer glutinous cake that is steamed? Yes, I have a recipe for that one too. I also have a recipe for the white or colorful steamed rice cakes.
@Ooilei Don't get too caught up on the name. It's labeled that for search engine optimization and for certain key words. Try the food. Please don't judge it til you try it.
Wow, veryyy interesting! First video i saw of your's, will be looking through your channel and checking out your other vids. Keep it up! Looking forward to more videos from you. Subscribed!
Off topic. I love this song by Chris Brown. Well you only have the music but Chris B. has a song with this music. ok, back to your vid. You make it look so easy. Thanks for sharing.
@NecroSSanity I got mine from an asian grocery store in Madison called Yue Wah. I believe SWAD is an indian brand. I haven't found it online yet though.
i really enjoy watching u make this.. hehe.. i going to see if my wife can do it.. look easy .. but what do i know i a guy only ... .. i wonder does it teast like the American jell-o ..
1. Google "knox gelatin powder" that's a common brand in the US. 2. I don't think anyone would recommend putting raw egg into jello 3. Next time maybe try a bain marie to keep the mixture warm. That's when you put a glass bowl over a pot of boiling water, commonly used to melt chocolate. The only thing is to let the mixture cool before you add a layer, otherwise, the previous layer will melt and mix with the new layer. Sorry I'm not the uploader, but I cook a lot and hope this helps.
@calzoee Hi calzoee, I bought a 16 oz Knox unflavored gelatin can from a large American supermarket here in Madison called "Woodmans". You might want to try a large store to get that. I haven't seen it sold at Walmart, Sams Club, or Costco here in Madison. Otherwise, if you can't find the large 16 oz can, you can get unflavored gelatin in the jello aisle of your local American grocery store.
@hmongfood Thanks! i made these the other day and they turned out good! the only issue i had was that they were a bit stiffer than the usual ones i usually eat, but still a good recipe!
Surely you can BUT must be the same amount, check how many oz or ml of the can of coconut milk and replace it with milk. I will add 1/2 cup of sugar from the 1 1/2 cup of sugar and mix it well with the gelatin so that it is easily melted when added to the boiling syrup. When done, I will sift it so that all the bubbles will not in the liquid. When pour the 2nd and the 3rd layer, I will place a spoon/ ladle above partially set lower layer so that it will not break a hole in it !!
@mrwilsonyang If you can't find it you can use flavor gelatin but it might taste different if you add coconut milk to it. Give it a try and let me know. I also don't know how solid it will be bc the measurements may be off.
@XhmOngSouLjax Thanks for your comment. This one has a slightly different texture than the green/yellow layered glutinous layer cake. It's very similar but takes less time and no steaming! :-)
Lovely recipe. My son had a Xmas Potlock in school on wednesday. Its nuts free and kid-friendly ( JK )... and this IS the best idea! I will make bite size pieces of that jello for the kids!
@hmongfood Oh I see. heehehe...I didn't think of that. Very creative though. Thank you very much for your tutorials. I'll be subscribing to your vids. Keep it up.
thanks for this recipe. it looks good. i never eat them before, but it looks tasty. i don't know how am i gonna get 1 cup of the unflavored gelatin...because grocery store only carry the Envelopes. maybe i would have to buy a lot to match for 1 cup.
@makeupfirst Aw thanks! I've been having a lot of fun making videos. I hope to make more food inspired tutorials this weekend! Thanks for your support!
@rasany Hi Rasany, I haven't tasted that delicious recipe you are describing! If you have a link to a picture that would be great! I have an idea that the honeycomb layer is perhaps rice flour, yeast, sugar, water, (maybe coconut milk too?). The sticky outside layer is probably glutinous flour, sugar, (maybe some tapioca), water (maybe coconut milk). I'll be posting some more rice cake recipes. You can probably experiment and try different combinations of mixtures together!

Looks delicious! N I dun know why it's so soothing to watch ppl make jelly..
Thank you for uploading this. I have looked long and hard for this recipe but it seems like no one is willing to share. My kids will be happy!!
Wow those colors are so vibrant!!
Powder food coloring is intense.

nice song or sound.. love the beat
@PigRabbiTk4 I measured it out when I put it in the bowl. I used the spoon only to transfer the water over cos it was so hot and I didnt want to burn.
Gonna try this nxt time, it'll be on my top list...
It makes me think of watermelon gelatin candy. It's really cute and I bet it's tasty. Thanks for sharing.
I ahvent ate this since I was 8 years old . i should go buy it sometime when i stop by a hmong store .
@calzoee You can decrease the amount of gelatin to 1/2 cup or 3/4 cup. I find that 3/4 cup is just about right.
So yummy! I am so so happy to have found this video. Thank you so much! I love this stuff!
It looks very beautiful.
@leeazn4eva You can buy the 16 oz can (Knox unflavored gelatin in a large orange can) on Amazon. Or you can buy the individual packets at any large supermarket by the jello aisle.
Wow....simple and easy. Thanks
@knx86 I used Knox unflavored gelatin. If you don't have it, you can try Agar Agar but it is a little different.
@hmongfood I agree! And I love seeing people cook! Especially our very own Hmong people like you, :)
@pockeythaostah5 You can use Agar Agar, but it will break easier and is not as flexible. You can find unflavored gelatin at large supermarkets. It is found in the jello aisle.
I am from Singapore! ,and In Singapore we have this jello! ,my house down stairs have sell this jello!

I use powder food coloring. It really brightens up the color. You can achieve this with liquid too but you just got to use more color.

@gmx101 It is the color of watermelon. :-) Green outer rind, white inner rind, and red flesh. You can make it any color you want.
@GreyGooseVodka555 Make sure you use boiling hot water. The chilled layer does not need to be completely solid, add the next color when it is stable enough to hold the next layer. @absolutleo22 Yes, check my video section for the tapioca cake recipe. It's pretty easy. Look for the picture with the green and yellow layers.
Wowww, it looks so good.

This is great. I'm going to add a bit of yellow to the red layer, and make Irish flag colored Hmong jello shots for st. Patrick's day.

You do want to use the unflavored gelatin from the american grocery store. Sometimes you can buy the large jar if they have it available.
