Also they go super hard at live shows like the stuff from the bandito tour was crazy, flaming cars, bridges, light shows it's all great

I played it twice last night, and it didn't really click. I watched a little lore/breakdown video and then went to bed. I woke up this morning and let it play again while walking in the rain and it hit sooo hard that my eyes actually teared up 😅. I'm so excited for this album!

Everything about their music has multiple meanings. Tyler quite often writes in a meta-context about the music itself and the writing process (Lane Boy, Pet Cheetah, Chlorine, Fairly Local, Screen, and more)

I mean, it was on purpose you know, as it is "propaganda" and everything is supposed to be fake, the Sai vibes and style is not what they are usually into, so it was made just for the lore lmao. At first it was a shock, I had to get used to it to start liking a few songs, but I think that's what they wanted the album to be.

Overcompensate is definitely like that on purpose and is very much an intro track with the callbacks to levitate and bandito. It's also supposed to mark a change in Clancy's character (gaining confidence). Plus, this album is supposed to be way more blunt about the lore related stuff which can be heard in the lyrics. I don't know all the ins and outs personally, there are definitely people who could tell you way more.
The only TOP album I like is Trench and despite Overcompensate being more in that territory I still prefer this song.
"Can't change what you've done, start fresh next semester" is defo the type of thing I need to hear right now.
It’s been widely theorized that the chorus is detailing a s*icide attempt Tyler may have had when he was younger. It’s arguably the duo’s most personal song yet, and fits the theme of the album that Tyler describes as confronting your demons and trauma and using them as a leverage for creativity and recovery. There’s not really any lore to this song unlike Overcompensate, which is probably the best for a topic so personal and serious. Glad you can agree with me and the rest of the Clique that the boys are cooking with this one.

I don't think it's just about college, it sounds like going through a rough patch, which does make sense for Tyler, then reaching a breaking point where you find yourself doing something reckless like standing in the road, and getting snapped out of it. Kind of like a failed attempt, but I'm not going to make any assumptions. And then they tell us that although you can't change what you've done and it all still happened, you can always start again "next semester." Everything can be better if you keep that mentality that the future will bring positive change.

I absolutely love both singles on this new album so far. If overcompensate is them trying too hard…then sign me up for cringe. Tyler Joseph can do no wrong in my eyes. The man is so much more unique than anyone out there. I love that he is literally creating his own movie with the lore and not giving a crap if ppl don’t fully get it.

i actually loved scaled and icy. for sure not their best album but i think it’s soo over hated. i think the music is really catchy and the way each lyric ties in with the overall story (in both subtle and obvious ways) is genius.
that being said, i already love both these two new singles and i think this album is gonna kick ass. i’m super excited.
the only thing im scared about is how they’re gonna follow up with their NEXT record. since this is the one that closes out this storyline, im curious to see which direction they head after this.

As a major fan, (yes, even of SAI - I think it's just stylistically not for everyone and maybe a grower for others) it is pretty fun to hear an "outsider" listen and enjoy and say stuff like "Let's go back into the Trench" lol.
Also, Overcompensate kinda rocks. I get that "Welcome Back to Trench" is kinda corny if you're not as much into the band and the story as a whole but I like it.

As a graduating senior, this song dropped at a time in the semester where motivation is at the lowest, and stress at the highest during these last few weeks, which I found resonated more with me.
I personally loved this song as well. But I actually did have an awful experience in university. I remember not wanting to be there and desperately wanting to go home.
I get nightmares sometimes where I think I’m still back in school. So this songs dreamy chorus really captures that nightmarish dread I’ve felt.

They are not saying they are going back to the Trench wibes and production, it's reffering to Clancy literally going back to Dema in the story. It's a follow up line to the "Welcome to Trench" line in the song Levitate.

I don't think the song is just about being overwhelmed in college. It sounds like he's describing an actual suicide attempt of his. "I remember certain things. What I was wearing, the yellow dashes in the street. I prayed those lights would take me home." It's like he keeps going back to this haunting memory, then right back into the high-energy.
Yes, it's obviously a suicide attempt in trying to get hit by the truck, but the truck driver yells, "Hey kid, get our of the road!"
