Thank you so much for theGunilla Norris suggestions. I got “A Mystic Garden” It is so beautiful. I can’t wait to get the others. Been feeling pretty sad. I’m a empty nester who retired from nursing and feel so lost now. These books are just what I need.

Many thanks for sharing your fav books it is very helpful. I have now got the John Ruskin book and The Zen of seeing and I’m waiting for another of his books to arrive. I would never have know about these books, and I’m looking forward to reading them and then putting into practice what they say. I feel I’m just teetering on the edge of art, I’m not taking any classes but I feel that books open a doorway into new worlds and I love them.😊

Long ago when we went to England, my sister, who was a potter,insisted we visit Bernard Leach's studio and shop in St. Ives. It was an incredible experience. We met his wife, who was an absolutely charming woman, also a potter. When she found out that Cathy was a potter, she couldn't have been more informative and cozy. We had a glorious time. (Yes, we bought some pottery),

Cheryl Clough books have the same style of music from their friends in a way of different colors than they have
I have Botany for the Artist. I didn’t buy it...I let it haunt me for awhile. Then my purchased it for me as a gift. Now I will have to get her other book too!

Thank you so much for your beautiful and inspiring list of books. I ordered 3 by Frederick Franck and just received them. I love his drawings and his thoughts about drawing as meditation. Sorry to say I'm a bit disappointed and distracted by some of his judgemental comments I found to be incongruous with his message, especially those about women. Working on trying to minimize their effect and emphasize the positive aspects of the books.
I can understand that. I try to remember the time period, his age and generation, and believe that if he were alive and writing these books today he might speak differently. I wasn’t offended at all, but do understand. The information I gleaned from his books is immense.

Feel bad for artists who have books discounted. Was in a meeting for authors, and they said they were heartbroken to see their books “on the discounted pile”, they worked so hard, felt like failure.
It’s a part of the game. Not every book can be a decade long best seller. They need shelf space for the flood of new stuff. In my opinion, there are too many books being published and the quality and longevity suffers.
Funny thing, we have much the same taste in books............but I don't own many any more. One thing that just came out will make you drool. It's called ,"The New Sylvie." Check it out on Amazon. That's my Christmas Present for next year.

We seem to have walked the same path as far as buying books, unfortunately my Frederick Franck books have fallen apart.
I am so sorry! I would hole punch and put into a binder. They are getting harder to find. I love them so much.
This was such a helpful video, it's great to get an idea about a book before purchasing. Great recommendations! One question, the book "Sketch Book For The Artist", I think it's the second one you showed, is there any nudity in it? I am asking because the book looks great and I wanted to use it to teach my children. Thank you so much in advance for taking the time to read my comment.
Aneta Koehn it’s definitely an adult drawing book. Most serious art books will have nudity of some kind. And it’s really not written to a child. But... amazing for a teenager or college student!

I love your videos, very inspiring and refreshing when I don't know what to paint.
I know I'm hijacking the question, (sorry!) but if you're still looking for art books to use with kids, try Carla Sonheim's Drawing Lab. The approach is very loose but beautiful in its own way. Family friendly too. Mark Kistler's good, his "Imagination Station" was one of the first art books I read as a young 'un. Sachiko Umoto is also adorable and has easy instructions with kawaii Japanese flair. Good for the younger crowd. :-) You might also check out books in your local library and see about inter-library loaning others you might like to try if your library offers that service. Good luck!

@@randalllaue4042 yes, I am fairly old school. A lot of quickly published fluff out there these days. These are solid and stand the rest of time.
