      It exists, for example when you trade knight/bishop for rook. That's about "half a rook", not a "full rook", because you give in return a lower value piece.

    At my current 1900 elo, most people who accepted the gambit doesn't even bother to defend the pawn, they pushed e5 immediately after you push e3 letting you recapture that pawn.
