Not even butchered. He just holds himself to a crazy high standard. Respectable
If only refs held themselves to the same standards that Mike Breen does.

I am a Celtics fan and I can’t believe he thought that was a blown call. Everyone was confused. He still made it intense. What a legend in his field.
I honestly think it’s because he holds himself to such a high standard. It was literal pandemonium after that Final play I don’t blame him.
I mean it’s saying something that that was the “worst” call he ever made
Yeah you can almost argue it was a good call because it encompassed all the madness and confusion around the play so well, but I will say I remember watching live and wondering why there was confusion cause the shot looked good for sure
Dude said he couldn't sleep. Damn man
I think he called what he saw. Many people didn’t know what was going on. He key us informed as it went along. I saw that live and didn’t think anything of it
Hearing Mike Breen say “I’ve never been asked that before” had to of made JJ feel great. I saw that smirk lol

I remember thinking in the moment that the call was lackluster as a celtics fan, but I really dont blame Mike Breen. There was so much confusion from the refs and only the players seemed to all know it was over. Even as a fan I was ecstatic at the play and shot up out of my chair, and usually where you would run around your house I just heard the whistles and stood there with my hands on my head for 30 seconds doing nothing. Love Mike and the integral part he has played in my enjoyment as a fan for all these years, hes given us so much that he is owed a pass whenever needed.
I dont know game winning layup jus difficult yk I thought it was fine
I can't even watch the celtics. Something about their playstyle just bores me everytime I try. I like Brown, Smart, Rob Williams, Brogdon, White, Pritchard, Horford, Grant Williams... You know what? I think It's Tatum. He has become like Luka or Harden level iso ball, without having that level of passing as a secondary weapon. And it's starting to feel that way with Brown, too. They're just way too ball dominant, there is no true point guard or real distributor, or even real "ball movers". I just can't with them.
A healthy Khris Middleton and the Bucks dominate that ECF series. It already went to 7, and that Bucks team isn't even deep for a contender. And then a really flawed, not even on their game, lucky break with injuries in the West, limited Klay Thompson having Warriors team turned Tatum and Brown into volume shooters, and that was that. If they win a chip playing the way they do, I'll be amazed, cuz they didn't belong in the finals last year. Neither team really did, but one at least knew how to play team basketball.
@@lakeshoresubtleties You clearly don’t watch the Celtics if you think Tatum is an iso like player compared to Luka and Harden. Tatum does iso plenty, but his playmaking skills have improved significantly since coming it i the league. He is responsible for the Celtics offense being as good as it without smart in the lineup. He not only scores, but creates for the entire team by drawing doubles. What an odd take.
@UCpnbZZFTALhs1TngsNb3dHw the Celtics are 6th in assist percentage and 7th in assists per game this year. They’re one of the best ball movement teams in the league. Your analysis is just way off.
@@kennystar9075 watching him from his rookie year to now he has grown so much. Kyrie coming stunted his growth a little but he still continued to improve by learning how to play off the ball. I remember beginning of last year my boy said Tatum wasn’t a superstar and since he said that he just went off and took them all the way to the finals. He definitely apologized after that 🤣
I think anyone wouldn’t know what to say in that situation, Tatum literally got the layup right as the buzzer sounded
I looooveee that you got Mike Breen, JJ! He's one of those guys nobody thinks to interview, but knows more than most people about his craft and about all sides of the sport. Y'all had great chemistry as well!!
I just went back and rewatched the call. He called it exactly right in the moment, backtracked due to the confusion, and then informed the audience of what the correct call was. Mr. Breen is a professional and perfectionist. Love this interview, and I'm only half-way through.
He's made so many knicks Losses feel legendary for the other team, he's just a pure wonder to hear. Watching him during knicks wins is something special. No better broadcaster, no one knows how to let a moment breathe like Mike Breen.

I was at the Garden for this game and it was the loudest I've ever heard an arena/stadium for any event in my life. Four rows from the top of the garden we were all screaming, jumping up and down, and hugging strangers because we were all experiencing pure childish joy. Seeing the clip back was so underwhelming and anticlimactic after being in the moment live but you gotta love Mike Breen for owning it. Celtics fans still love you Mike!

Rewatched the incident, wasn't a big deal. If he didn't mention it I wouldn't even know. No one takes the announcers too seriously and we can definitely forgive em for a minor MINOR error which wasn't that significant. Mike's an incredible announcer and I'm glad I got to listen to him broadcast.

CRAZY to hear this. That call hyped me up.
That was the craziest game winner I’ve ever seen. After the buzzer went off I went “wait what” and then got excited it seemed almost too real to be true
Omg lol as Celtics fan “don’t worry about it!!” I was confused for like 3 secs and almost threw my remote but when I realized he made a mistake I celebrated like a little kid!! The playoffs turn me into a emotional wreck lol. I think every shot that goes up is going to be off. I always just have this feeling we will lose even if we are up ten with 1 min left lol. Doesn't even seem like a bad call on the broadcast. It's just one of those "what just happened" moments.
Breen being hard on himself about the call. There was alot going on. This guy is awesome!!

I remember that call, and thinking Tatum either didn’t get it off on time or that a timeout was called or something don’t blame Mike for that.
All the "BANG!"s over the yrs more than overshadow that. It's cool, mike 👍

Mike Breen the GOAT of announcers. Love him
It’s not even a bad call, that’s crazy. You see what you see in that moment, if it changes all good.
Yeah I’m confused as to why he cares about making a call as if he’s a ref. I understand when officiating live you want to to get the play by play right but it’s not like anything he says has any impact on the actual game..
@@Ril014 because he cares and is a perfectionist, nothing wrong with that
@@Ril014 because it's up to commentators to inform - not just people with knowledge of the game, but those without. Also, it annoys viewers when a commentator doesn't know what they're talking about. Take Hubie Brown or Reggie Miller when they assume the wrong ref decision for example. I don't find them that annoying, but several people do - to the point where those 2 are aware of their reputation
Here's another perspective: Maybe the ref in the middle of the floor shouldn't be blowing his whistle wildly and waving his arms around after the buzzer if he's not actually waving off the basket. And the guy is standing right in front of Mike Breen, no wonder he's confused.
If you think this was your worst call mike then your even more of a legend!
Best lead commentator by far
Absolute legend. Greatest NBA announcer of all time
At the beginning idk if Mike had a morning voice or something but I was like wtf that’s not mikes voice. And then he snapped into his regular voice .
I think the worst call was when the Cavs won the title and Mike said "Cleveland is a city of champions once again"
The bar of what constitutes a good performance for Mike Breen feels more damaging than the call.
Just a phenomenal human being
JJ being proud of his questions is priceless

It wasn't that terrible of a call lol. With TD Garden going crazy, it's understandable how he might not have known whether the shot was good. Celtics fans like myself will only remember the "Tatum spins and puts it in!! Celtics go up by 1!!" and not the rest of the butchered call; it ended up being fine!

What was the mistake?
@@Ben2bwild first he said Celtics go up by 1 as if there was still time left. Then he said they waved it off when they didn’t
@@amproskrefs were waving there arms and blowing their whistle. Most people would be confused on that position
I wish JJ would have asked a follow-up question, what made that the worst call? I looked up the results of the game.
The Boston Celtics hung on to beat the Brooklyn Nets 115 - 114 on their home court of TD Garden this Easter Sunday with a brilliant pass from Marcus Smart to Jayson Tatum that kept the Celtics from falling behind 0 - 1 in the first round of the NBA’s 2022 Eastern Conference Playoffs.
I have no editing skills but someone should edit the video at 3:55 when JJ start talking about Breen be a superhero. They should make the video tinted purple and superhero by metro boomin and future starts playing and when Breen asks JJ if he owes him money the beat drops
this is why we love mike breen a true pro
