I have a suggestion for a new episode. Fresh Pineapple Prep for less powerful whiskies that don't pack a big flavor punch.
I noticed that I had a very muted reaction to a bottle of Eagle Rare after the neck pour and it was pretty consistently dull to me. I ate a sizeable bowl of fresh pineapple shortly before sampling it recently and the acid that was making my mouth sting seemed to have cleaned off all the crud on my tastebuds. The ethanol burn was a lot more present, but so was the flavor. It had a lot more flavor than it did before. It drank like a much higher proof and much more powerful whisky. Maybe a good trick for us old salty whisky drinkers to enjoy the weaker stuff a bit more than we would otherwise.
Try it out with Brianna please as she is so entertaining to watch.

i'd love to see alcohol from chilies,
there is some chili infused gins but i'd like to see how much sugar you can get out of fresh jalapenos or habaneros even if it's a small amount, suggesting those because the hotter peppers like ghost, scorpions or reapers would be incredibly inefficient and expensive (and apart from reapers don't tend to taste good)
as far as i know a fraction of capsaicin (the stuff that makes chilies spicy) contains glucose so in theory if you have enough it should work

    • @derrickpomranky297

Considering the amount of high-fructose corn syrup in an Oreo I would have used a wine-yeast, heated it to 175F for 30min to sterilize, and then cooled to pitching temp.
If you were to use a high-temp amylase and glucoamylase on the cooldown would help convert any starches from the cracker to fermentable sugars IF you had a beta-amylase to add to it
The foaming, btw, is a result of glucose chains forming a matrix that captures CO2 rather than releasing it. That tends to happen when you have either complex sugars OR simple glucose molecules.
The former is due to more scaffolding for the foam and the latter is due to more foam creation.
Finally, you can ALWAYS ADD WATER to get a second distillation.

If you haven’t done mead, do a good mead. Take five gallons or so of good wildflower honey, 20-25 gallons of clean spring water or rain water (significant difference in final flavour due to minerals and pH), pitch with any ale yeast (I personally find great success with basic baking yeast), and let ferment until finished bubbling (up to a month depending on quantity). Then set it in bottles or jars for a year or two, forget it exists, ignore it completely, abandon it to the mists of time, then distill it. The ageing let’s the volatile flavours break down and return to a smooth and sweet and golden flavour of flowers and sunshine, and the distillation should be able to pull out and concentrate that into a ridiculously expensive to produce, insanely delicious, and delightfully simple to make liquor… plus there’s an episode for the making the mead (possibly with a poll about the extra flavours to try for different batches), an episode for the first tasting, an episode for tasting it after a year or two, and then the distillation.

Obviously not the same, but this reminds me of the Double Dunk by Prairie Ales. It was an imperial stout conditioned on Oreos, and literally tasted like a liquid Oreo. It was delicious, and dangerous.

It would be better to put that stuff in a gin basket to get the flavors. It wouldn't distill without adding a bunch of sugar in with it.

A slight tangent from will it distill, alternate charcoal filtering. Oak charcoal if common, but do other charcoals impart flavor? Ya got your obvious alternate woods (maple, mesquite, cherry, apple, pecan) but what about non wood charcoal? Corn, peanut, coco beans, coffee beans?

Brianna and Junkyard Mook need to switch channels for a day and see if anyone notices! They look similar and are quirky similar. I think casual watchers would be like, "something is wrong, but I don't know what!"
As far as the oreos, this is cool. I cant believe how little was saved after on the second run though!

    Serious suggestion;
Raisins, Sultanas, Currents, Apple, Candide citrus peal and Grapes. Giving you a Christmas Pudding, very confused, fruit brandy.
    Less serious.
    Bread
    Bourbon biscuit (for obvious reasons)
Turnip, Swede, Carrot or Parsnip (because you can use potato)
    Ice tea
Coke, Pepsi, Sprite, D&B, Fanta, etc
    Red Bull
Caramelized Onion (or french onion soup)
Candied Bacon (I will not take responsibility for this)
    Ice Cream
    Custard
    Grass clippings and sugar
    Peat and sugar
    Sawdust and sugar

I have to wonder if this would be better if you done some more work to the oreos pre-ferment -- I'm thinking because there are fats in there that might go rancid, or add weird flavours, if you let things settle for a bit and fats float to the top, then skimmed them off before fermentation -- could that help to make something less funky perhaps?
