      Stan Lee gave him plenty of credit for creating Spider-Man but Ditko was just a whiny baby saying he didn't get any credit. I like Steve Ditkos take on Spider-Man but my absolute favorite Spider-Man Comic Artist is John Romita Sr

      it was a stan and steve joint right from the start. it even says so on the first page of amazing fantasy 15. so i dont really know what steve is bitching about all this time, its not like a bob kane/bill finger type of dilemma wherein bill finger didnt really get any credit. but thats not to say that steve single-handedly developed spider-man into the character we know and love today. developing and creating are two very different things to me

    Stan always gave him enough credit, ditko earned enough credit for it officially. I don’t see that interview clip as Stan saying that he was the only creator, he just said that he came up with the idea of a Spider-Man. Spidey really was born from the mind of Stan Lee, ditko just helped making him a thing on paper.

    I do feel from a pay standpoint that Ditko wasn't given enough, but at the end of the day Stan Lee came up with the idea and wrote the whole story. Ditko came up with the visual concept. It wasn't like the Batman controversy where Bill Finger wrote and developed Batman and Bob Kane stole it from him. Feel free to correct me if I have gotten the details incorrectly, but as far as I know from Stan Lee's interviews, he wrote the story first before giving the artists to bring it to life visually.

    • @CarbonScoring
      @CarbonScoring  Před 2 lety +1

      I wasn't there, so I can't say for sure. Stan was not afraid in interviews to overstate what he contributed. Most comic historians agree that Stan would usually come up with an idea - a one or two sentence pitch - then Kirby and Ditko would take it from there. So, it is true that the original "idea" would come from Stan, but much (if not most or all) of the stories came from the artists when using the "Marvel Method"

    I think what makes Stan's remarks even worse is the fact he initially went to Jack Kirby to design Spider-Man, and Kirby made a design more like Captain America, and gave Spider-Man a web gun instead of web shooters, which would mean web swinging was off the table. Marvel isn't Marvel without Stan Lee (from a pop culture perspective)... but he isn't Stan "The Man" Lee without Steve Ditko and Jack Kirby (among many others), and they were most certainly not disposable cogs like he seemed to think, evident by their work after their departures from Marvel.
    However, there is something to be said about Ditko's philosophy of objectivism, which most definitely fueled the fire between the two (as opposed to Kirby, who didn't seem to hold AS much of a grudge against Lee as did Ditko). Not saying Ditko was wrong to feel what he felt (quite the opposite in fact), but it's still worth noting.

    Gotta disagree with the creation controversy. When Ditko was granted writer privileges, he showed he really didn't understand who Peter Parker is and the morals of his character. Peter's whole story is about how great power comes with great responsibility. But Ditko completely forgot this lesson and had Peter acting like he did when he first got his powers. Ignoring problems that were inconvenient and trying to profit from being Spider-Man. That suggests to me Lee had more to do with Spider-Man as a character than Ditko did

    exept the suit eventually went through spiderman 2099 syndrome were the blue shading was mistaken my actual blue and eventually ghe artists forgot it was meant to be black.

    This is a bit off topic but Its weird that people give todd McFarlane the credit for adding a higher amount of webbing onto the costume, i do know that the McFarlane suit definitely has much more webbing than the ditko suit but it's weird that people forget this suit also had a huge amount of webbing on it.

    • @CarbonScoring
      @CarbonScoring  Před 2 lety +1

      Todd's look for Spider-Man was revolutionary - Spidey books were an after thought until he came on the title. But you are right - when you look back - it was all there with the Ditko run!
