I don't think there's anything wrong with his banyan. The audio recording environment (reverb of the room) and engineering (poorly placed microphones) is the root of the sound problems.

Such are the tones of the Bayan. It is a Russian instrument that was based on the accordion that has a much fuller, deeper, sound colour.
