    I'd like to give another interesting tip on (the most daunting!) question #5: Remember folks, that a project charter bears only the high-level scope of the project which (in project management terminology) cannot be called a "baseline". On the other hand, it's the subsidiary plans (under the project management plan) that contain the "measurable" project baselines.

    In question 3, I think it is A that's the best answer. It is said that the PM check the essential requirement and found that it is true they did not addressed that requirement. This means that, the requirement what mentionned somewhere that the PM was supposed to know. Since requirements are directly link to stakeholder expectations, not to scope management plan, I think the PM did not manage de stakeholder expectation well. More I don't understand why the scope management plan (which is a how to guide) would have help the PM in not forgetting a requirement. The requirement was certainly mentionned in the Requirement Tracability Matrix. The it isn't the scope management plan that cause problem but the review of requirements before going to the customer.

    • @PMPwithRay
      @PMPwithRay  Před 2 lety +1

      Hello Idriss, 'manage stakeholder expectations' is not a PLANNING process group activity but more of a EXECUTION process group activity. Here the question is asking what should the PM have done (i.e. during PLANNING stage)...hence it's wrong.
      Also, logically you are incorrect as well since you have to SET the expectations first before MANAGING them...hence with that logic, A is wrong as well.

    Wonderful way of elimination technique for situational based questions. Indeed this method will help selecting the right option, however, to balance time to answer question in real PMP Exam is very important, usually current PMP Exam structure each question should not take more than 1m 27sec to answer therefore, situational question better to be marked for later review in order to apply elimination technique.
    But still Ray, you are doing a wonderful work to helpling PMP exam aspirants like myself who is preparing to appear in about max 3 weeks time frame. Thank you so much!!

    What am I missing on #3?
    I chose A. I think A or B are viable options to this question. Nowhere in the question does it state that the miss was due to a miscommunication or a lack of execution of the scope-so it leaves some room for interpretation. Did the PMP simply forget to include this requirement? Answer B. Or could it possibly have been that the PMP/stakeholder just did not communicate effectively so that this requirement would be included into this particular iteration? Answer A.
    Thanks for doing these BTW.

    • @PMPwithRay
      @PMPwithRay  Před 2 lety

      Hi Chris, I understand your thought process and you are correct within the assumptions you stated. However, in the PMP exam, the way you eliminate such close options (esp. where there is room for assumption) is to resort to the frameworks provided within the PMBOK. Here, if you watch the explanation again, 'manage stakeholder expectation' is a EXECUTION task. Now, when the question asks 'what you should have done differently'...it's logically referring to some task that's BEFORE execution, hence it's PLANNING. Approve scope management plan is a PLANNING activity. Hence, the option is B, not A.

    Hai Ray, Good Stuff for situational questions, just would like to know for question Number 3, A requirement is missed and fulfilled during testing, just correct me if I am wrong, Scope management plan tells you how to define/manage/validate/control scope, If a scope is missed I can refer to scope management plan again how I can define/manage the new scope, But approve scope management plan seems little odd, Manage stakeholder expectation is also a generalized and vague option, but atleast better than approving a management plan at the end of the project

    • @PMPwithRay
      @PMPwithRay  Před 4 lety +4

      Hi Manu. This is the explanation to your query:
      The question is not mentioning to get the scope management plan approved at the 'end of the project'. Notice the stem which mentions 'what should you have done differently'. This means, some process which needed to happen in the past. Also, I agree with you that option B is not the most appropriate answer to this question, but it is the 'best answer choice among the 4'....hence correct. Manage stakeholder expectation is wrong because this is a question of scope definition/validation...stakeholder expectation can relate to a lot of other things. In PMP exam you will find questions like this where you do not agree with the any of the options, but you will need to choose the best possible option among the 4...

    I think answer to Question #3 is Option A. Because Monitoring and Controlling doesn't happen after Executing phase, it happens throughout the project.
    Secondly Scope management plan doesn't contain any scope definition. It only contains guidelines on how scope could be managed. Even if you would approve the scope management plan, there will still be a chance of missing a requirement.
    Please let me know if you think I may have missed something.

    • @PMPwithRay
      @PMPwithRay  Před 3 lety

      Hi Gaurav. For optionA, 'manage stakeholder expectation' is not a standard PMBOK terminology as per table 1.4 of Pg 25. Hence, 'managing expectations' can mean a lot of things...also, for the same reason it is not clear whether it is talking about anything in the M&C, PL, EX or IN phase...again open to interpretation. On the other hand ' scope management plan' is something that is standard as per the same table#. I agree that Option B may not be the best answer...but other options are 'more wrong'...:)

If no, then you cannot write the exam before October. Even if you are audited, PMI gives you 3 months to submit the documents...so I think you are safe! :)

      Hello. Managing stakeholder expectation here is a task of EX or M&C. The stem asks what you should have done differently...hence it has to be a process from IN or PL group. Hence B is correct (that's a PL group process). Also, you have missed a scope here...so the stakeholder is correct in her expectation. Nothing you can gain out of managing her expectation now. Option B may not be the best option here but it's more correct that the other 3.
