I wonder how our ancestors able to give birth to healthy babies back then without taking these folic acid supplements?

Aifa Rusydina our food today is super modified, things were more natural back then so I like to believe they actually got the nutrients from the foods they had. May also be far fetched but I like to think they spent more time outdoors as well.

      Aifa Rusydina
In those days also were born defective babies, dead, or those who did not survive after birth, and of course those whose parents abandoned them because of defects with them were born.
In addition, the diet in the past was very different from today.
In the past, the diet was cleaner and more natural, vegetables and fruit without hormones and spraying, products from life without antibiotics .. In addition, in those days the daily physical activity was more difficult than what is happening today, so the consumption of clean food we talked about was higher.
And in the past there was less importance to how I looked during or after pregnancy and consequently did not count calories ... They did not refrain from overeating, certainly not in pregnancy.
There are communities whose culture says, a pregnant woman should eat for two. In the past women were stronger and healthier than women today. Today, women work in their office, are less active, eat junk food, drink sugary foods, Alcohol, smoke, cigarettes, soot (lampblack) , antidepressants and anxiety are the norm today .....
They do not eat regular meals, do not prepare themselves, use cosmetics and many products that contain harmful chemicals, consume far more drugs than before ...Painkillers, antibiotics, steroids and more ...
And there are cultures in which to this day make sure to check the family history before marriage to ensure that the couple are not relatives even up to 7 generations back, to avoid genetic defects between the other ...
In the past, healthy children were born without consuming folic acid

Many people do not make the proper enzyme to convert folic acid into the usable form of folate. Folate & other methylated B vitamins should become the recommended supplement to take.

From what I've just read, folic acid is the synthetic version of folate. It can lead to unhealthy amounts of folic acid in the body which can cause problems. So this is just a fair warning to expecting mothers that you should probably look into vitamins with folate and not folic acid. "Whole food" vitamins will naturally have folate and not folic acid.

absolutely heartbreaking to not know this before birth. They are not the same and must be used differently. They have an extremely different effect on the body. I wish my midwife would've prescribed me a different supplement that did not contain folic acid.

    • @virgobutterfly9981

You cant say that to her! I'm sorry for your loss but you need to study the methylation process in the body, get your b12 and folate bloods done. Do not take folic acid, it is synthetic and if your body doesn't convert it into the natural form of folate it will be useless and cause you health problems. Take b12 & find methylfolate. 40 to 60% of population have the mthfr gene mutation which doesn't allow the body to methylate correctly so you need to take the right stuff and change your diet too if that's the case.
