I have a GREY FREE home. I was so tired of grey that it was affecting my attitude. It didn't make me happy. Now I have the warm tones of light white yellow/nutmeg on my walls and deep chocolate brown tones on our casual chairs and buttery camel colors accented with black for the living room. In the master bath I have a deep forest green marble counter tops while keeping the light white cream walls (Sherman Williams color Paperwhite) with white cabinets polished brass drawer pulls and white baseboard and crown molding

I never painted my home grey or bought grey furniture. It's too sterile and cold. There are very few people that can do grey well and make their home feel warm and inviting. When done well, it can be very beautiful. Thank you for all of the info!

My fav was pearly white. I love whites with taupe understones. They go with everything because they are more on the neutral side. They also work really well with natural sunlight to creates this ethereal feel to the space. A really great taupe white is vintage taupe by benjamin moore.

Just came across your video as I was trying to decide on colors to paint the complete interior of our home. I narrowed it down to either Natural Linen or Natural Tan .. I chose Natural Tan, only because it seemed to be a tad darker and thought it would be better to match our travertine floors ... but thanks for your videos .. it really helped me in my decisions.

These are so pretty! I’m usually leery when I see an all beige house, like they just found out some pipe is about to burst under the basement so they’re slapping on the easiest paint, trying to sell it on the quick. Plus,my house gets weird light which makes everything look stale beige yellow but I’m updating now and your videos are a revelation!

I enjoy watching your videos and I have learned some useful tips and things in general about paint. I would probably choose Sherwin williams and/or Benjamin Moore for most jobs. I only just recently used gray paint - Benjamin Moore gray owl, on kitchen cabinetry, and it turned out to be a great choice with our lighting and overall aesthetic. Our house is over 100 years old , it is in an urban setting and it has a loft-like feel. For quite a number of years we have had another Color by Benjamin Moore used predominantly throughout our home. For any of you people out there who are looking for a Color that is neither yellow nor orange-peach nor too white, the paint color “standish white” by Benjamin Moore is a color that I have lived with for years and is one that I thought some of your viewers may also be interested in checking out. There is a whole world just full of color(s) from which to choose and I don’t think that I would ever feel that I have to use just one color or any color in particular to put on my walls, but I do know this - once a color goes on our walls, it will probably remain on our walls for quite some time and therefore we have to choose carefully. Thank you for all of your suggestions and keep plugging away. T. Ferris

I do like light gray, actually. I personally can’t stand the overly warm colors of the 2000’s and 2010’s. I also hate the red hues that everyone would paint one wall thinking they just upgraded the sophistication of their home. Not!. Always hated it. But on a different note…. Oddly, I just painted my bedroom in Pearly Gray two months ago before I saw your recommendation. And I love it!

I loved (past tense) sea salt in the sample I brought home for my bedroom. It really is a lovely chameleon color. But even though my bedroom faces west and gets plenty of warm light, the paint always made the room feel cold and flat and, weirdly, gray. Swapped it out for Swiss Coffee last year and the bedroom suddenly felt more comfortable. So, careful with the sea salt. It’s probably great in a small bathroom.

Unpopular opinion- people prefer interior wall paint colors that look good on them. For instance, if you look good in cool undertones in clothing and hair, you’ll prefer cool colors; if you have golden undertones in your skin, you want warm tones in your home. Cool tones look better on me than warm tones, so I’ll take white or a light silver gray any day over beige. However, I like this video and all of your content. It’s relaxing to think about paint colors after a long day lol. PS for beige lovers, my place is a warm sand Behr color called Baja, and even I don’t mind it, and I am not a fan of beige.

My entire house was this color (sea salt) before I went pure white after I got bored in general/and the problem I had with sea salt as I have a lot of windows and with some rooms not facing sun so walking down the long balcony when looking around every wall tended to look different shades, from grey, minter green to like sea glass medium green. The exterior was silver strand. (Sea salt) Was beautiful and goes with just about any color for decor/minus old-type cherry wood furniture which I don't have/don't love. I never really could figure out what color it actually was if that makes sense. On rainy days it was kind of surprisingly a slightly depressing color. I think that color would work better in a smaller home, maybe like a cottage style or something, not in larger homes. Just didn't vibe for long.

I love your presentation style, which helps someone like me who has almost NO natural aptitude for color to understand what contributes to differences I see, but don't understand the how or why. Describing the "terms of the trade" as your using them in your narrative helps me have "oh, I get that" moments in each video. You help me have more access into an arena I'll never master, but I can become more informed and at least be able to approach my choices more effectively and with less chance for abject errors.
(Case in point, I was looking for a color for a 5' x 5' half bath - no natural lighting. It was suggested to try Sea Salt, because it was so popular. Total disaster! But after seeing this video, I could have avoided that whole debacle.)

Hello James, I am new to your videos and I love them! You have the best paint info videos available.
Silver Clamshell is a gorgeous color. Although it might sound like it leans grey, it has a warmer tone. If I had to describe it, I would call it the softer, warmer, elegant version of a lighter/pastel-ish greige.
It is absolutely stunning and looks great with everything. I think it is a perfect choice for anyone who wants to infuse a soft, warm, beautiful neutral into their home while transitioning from everything grey!
I personally have found it can pick up both blue and yellow undertones. I also think it would look amazing with the dusty greens that have been on trend for 2022. I originally chose SW Silver Clamshell for the main living areas of our 1974 tri-level in 2017. Our kitchen/dining is open to the lower level family room. Choosing a paint color was tricky since the lighting varied so much thoughout all the open spaces. Natural and artificial lighting, plus day to night changed other paint colors we tried, making them look harsh, cold and downright hideous. We also used it all throughout a second home I owned when we chose to sell it. So it is perfect for staging any trend and plays to most everyone's personal esthetic.
We will be using Silver Clamshell for years to come as a backdrop in our main living spaces. We are currently looking for a new home to downsize to, and Silver Clamshell will be back in our main living areas.
If you are someone who likes to change it up with a pop of color as the seasons change, or add in a little bit of the "IT" color or current style trend, Silver Clamshell is awesome.
Obviously, I cannot say enough about this amazing SW neutral.
I also agree with Kim Haas. I love Swiss Coffee and have used it for years as a ceiling paint color. It is such a beautiful creamy (not stark) white! We just have them tint our flat ceiling paint at the paint counter.
*** They are both SW colors ***
We used Behr paint and color matched it to Silver Clamshell, as we are closer to Lowes. My prior hometown only had a Home Depot when we painted the home I sold, so I believe we color matched it to one of the paint brands they carry. We never use the cheapest paints due to coverage. I have used Sherwin Williams paint all through a home after a house fire. It looked great as well, although that was years prior and what the paint contractor used.
Just make sure that if you use another brand it could be just slightly different. Most likely would not be a noticiable difference imo.

I know exactly what you mean. I never had trouble with paint in any of my prior homes! However, the way natural light comes into a tri-level makes it so tricky. It changed the look of the colors soooo much and NOT in a good way.
Silver clamshell made all the difference, at least in our home.
We have silver clamshell in the main level kitchen, and lower level living areas. One part of the LL is really dark with a drop ceiling and it still looks great.
If I were you, I would get a paint sample and a couple cheap poster boards. Then paint a couple coats on them, and hang them up on your walls to see how light plays off of it in your home. I would hang them on 2 walls in the corner next to each other at eye level. I think that should give you a pretty good idea if it works in your home and you can reuse them from room to room.
We are going to be moving in the next few months, and I plan to use silver clamshell in the main living spaces in our next home too. That is how much I love it. Imo, it plays well with both warm and cool tones, so I am pretty confident it will work. Although, I will probably follow my own advice and get some poster board. 😊👍🏻

Im glad were entering a time of mixing colors while being neutral. Every decade basically had a paint color beige, white, gray. I personally like gray out of the 3. I grew up in a house with that awful 80s beige and white is too sterile. And most peoples style isn’t interesting enough to make up for how bare white is, so by default my preference is a light gray. My issue is less with paint color than the flooring, cabinet trends I see. Those are much harder to update.

So this explains why the colorist that came out to my house to help me pick colors was throwing everything at me but grey and I wanted grey, 🙂 I have a 3,500 sq ft house and 33 windows. I knew my house could handle the grey and I really sent her into a tailspin when I said that I wanted the pillars that are inside my house a shade darker than the walls. With the bright white trim and tile the grey really works and it makes the colors in my house just pop. The next project is a pantry redo. I want to paint the walls a deep purple with white shelving. It will add a pop of whimsey and match the accent tile in the kitchen.

Gray or greige colors for that matter don't seem to work that well in my house as much as I wanted to use them. No matter which color I tried, it just didn't look good. Most of my rooms are north facing and I am sure that plays a big part in it. I am still struggling with one of the bedrooms. I tried Canvas Tan but it was too dark. I did move up to Neutral Ground on the paint strip and it worked well in the one bedroom. The last color I tried was Gossemer Veil but it was too dark and dingy. I was going to try Drift of Mist since it's the lighter version but I am still not sure that will look good since it appears to be a very light greige. I do know that an LRV around 70 +/- seems to work well. I hope to find a neutral color that will work.

Hi there, if you like Neutral Ground, perhaps you should explore warmer colors? So, not grays or greiges? I'd look at warm, creamy off whites. Or even blush, peaches, etc.
