These are the years from 88 to 93 that I had the great privilege to stand in the north bank of Highbury watching a great part of history taking place at Arsenal football club. The whole squad we’re all legends of the great game, and played together for a few years to write a great part of Arsenal’s history. Well done Arsenal.
Rocky was my favourite player of that era, these were the years that I used to stand in the north bank quite often and now and again go down the clock end. George built such a great team, and it was a great privilege to be able to stand inside Highbury on a Saturday afternoon, to watch a great big part of history taking place at Arsenal football club . The whole team of that era were legends of the game wether you are a Gooner or not. Up the Arsenal. If Isn’t sacked he should be he isn’t big enough or good enough to manage Arsenal and I told my son that before he came to us and didn’t agree with me but he does now
It's up for grabs now!! What a bit commentary when arsenal had the best defensive unit I'm a leeds and I remember playing them in 1991 four times in FA cup replays great games
Watched the game in the Wheatsheafs pub at Islington Green. Absolute bedlam in the pub when Sir Michael stuck the ball in the Scousers net. The whole of the bank holiday weekend was carnage. Probably the greatest moment I have experienced supporting Arsenal.
I was 16 when we won the league title 88-89. What a night going to Liverpool and getting two goals to clinch the league title. Tough defence lead by Tony Adams and goals from Alan Smith that led him winning his first Golden Boot award. Cockrill provoke Davis to get Davis suspended for nine matches. David Rocky Rocastle my Arsenal; all-time hero 67/01. Lukic, Dixon, Bould, Adams (c), Winterburn, Rocastle, Thomas, Davis,, Marwood, Smith & Merson.
Going to Anfield and winning the league title for the first time in forty eight years was so, so, so, special. Rocky Rocasrle my hero with such speed and skill and Alan Smith scoring goals for fun and Big Tony Adams leading our back four. What memories man
Haha. Yeah, that was one of the most sickening defeats I`ve seen, came out the ground convinced we`d blown it. You well deserved your win. I was at both games against you lot that season, you actually did the double over us.
These were the days when you could win titles with as much as six league defeats in a season. So there wasn't such a margin between the top teams and the rest of the field, like nowadays. Arsenal lost like three times at home to the likes of Forest, Derby and Villa they were a far from vintage outfit. Indeed compared to a Man City dominated Premier League they would barely raise a eyebrow finishing only in the top four. Still these were the remaining days of a virtually all British League, and they had some outstanding English talent so full credit to them in dealing with the jagger naut that were Liverpool FC.
25:40 with respect to norwich city and Millwall (the two surprise clubs of the 1988-89 season) this is the 1st time the big 2 clubs clash in the title race
I always liked Lukic but he let some absolute stinkers in this season. Looking back now its easy to understand why George bombed him out, Seaman was a massive upgrade. Credit to the big man though, he went to Leeds, had a great first couple of seasons and won himself another league title winners medal.
@@mikeadams7904 Maybe. But thinking about it, the only howler to my mind came against Wimbledon in the second from last game for their second equilizer and even then he was unlucky.
1:13:30 since arsenal's final home fixture of the 1988-89 season Liverpool won the FA Cup and have condemn west ham to 2nd division football for the 1989-90 season
I'm old but not this old.. At least I remember Adams, Winterburn and Dixon.. The rest of them tells me nothing.. Although this Merson fellah seemed like a decent player.
Great opinion, I agree. And everyone should be entitled to their own opinion (another thing which is unlike these days as freedom of speech and movement being phased out by parliament!!) Top-level Football has since become toooooo far mixed with politics (taking the f'n knee and all the token t-shirts and slogans) and religion (players 'praying' and all sorts before games, yawn zzzz). This is why I'm constantly searching for videos like this, pre-1992.
It's just what both footballers and basketball players wore back then, nothing gay about it back then (ask Basketball Hall Of Famer John Stockton of the Utah Jazz, he wore them even after everyone else went to the longer length). However, especially in this PC bullshit era we live in, if a man wants to "go retro" and wear the short shorts, they get sny remarks said about them, including that of the most homophobic of them. In my days back in the 80s, both men and women wore them, nobody thought much about it, I remember wearing Ocean Pacific (OP) corduroy walk shorts during the summer back then and nobody minded, nowadays, it seems like fashion has changed, as now only women are allowed to wear (what have become known as) "mini shorts" from nicole by Nicole Miller and a.n.a available at JC Penney stores here in the States. Such BS going off the heels of us celebrating "Pride Month" back in June, as well as this, the 50th anniversary of Stonewall, and even though I am not gay myself, I have fans and friends who are, and I have grown to have a great deal of respect for what they went through in order to be recognized as equal with all of us.

Down the years lots of refs we influenced and bullied by Liverpool players but this ref stood firm and gave the goal. COYG
Sound like fergie days with brown paper bag with money for refs
United more like mate
Rocky Marwood and Thomas were just awesome that season
Ngoni Pfende and Smith. -won the golden boot for top scorer

Marwood was such a good player. missed some pens though
used to have this on VHS when I was kid. I'm sure I wore it out from overplay! loved that sax solo too! ;)
hopefully he still gets royalties. Him and the bass player from MOTD theme had groove!
I remember watching this on VHS aged 5 or so...time flies...
Still got it in loft
Good old Arsenal ❤

Those transfer figures at the start 😅 80M for Miguire would of got you 240 Steve Boulds
Steve Bould was seriously underrated. 240 Maguires aren’t worth one Bouldy
I had that on a VHS video when I was a kid I watched it repeatedly where I knew all the commentary off by heart. Great childhood memories. COYG 👊💯⚽️
Bryan Marwood was sensational. He was our Anders Limpar for that season.
Thanks a lot for the upload! I love these old season reviews
Fever pitch brought me here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!#####
Great club, great season- I saw that match in a Greek pub when er were hiking on Peloponnesos.
Thanks for the upload :)
1:04:33 on that same day as Aresnal's League fixture against Newcastle United. Liverpool were due to play in a F.A cup semi final at hillsborough
I would like to play like tony adams even as a rb
Brilliant stuff, thanks for uploading. Keep em coming. Have you got 93/94?
Shame they didn't show Davis breaking Glen Cocherel's Jaw in 8 places for making racist remarks to Rocastle.
ah so that's why

Lukic was very underrated mate. Give me an example of a blunder from that season.

His goal kicks (from the ground) were terrible but yeah definitely underrated. He was quality at saving penalties too
Does anyone know what service Setanta Sports News provides? Couldn't really tell.
Technology back in the day. Camera in the net. Nottm Forest away LOL

Disagree... looking at it now it's a low standard compared to now.
I prefer 80s and 90s style football. It maybe wasn’t as technical as today’s game but it was much more entertaining and physical
That intro music was very soft-porn btw...get the cigars and the fur coats out!
“Red Army, Red Army, Red Army….”
1:04:57 well for Cinderella that clock will strike midnight on Norwich City's brave title challenge
Les brileys wonder goal for millwall ruled out. What a shame.

31:32 That was an absolute fucking bullshit decision. I'm still angry about it.
I'd cheered like i was a gooner when Thomas scored that 😂
But Liverpool and Manchester United are Freinds
