Eva Cassidy was so incredible what a voice and talent. It was such a tragedy and loss to the world when she died of cancer at only 33 years old in 1996, but her music will forever live on. Eva's rendition of Fields of Gold is masterful and uplifting, if you're interested. Autumn Leaves is another one that's been covered over and over, but Eva's version makes you think you've never actually understood the lyrics before. I think you would enjoy them.

Eva sang from her heart and soul which touches our hearts and souls...such a gift ❤
And we must never forget she played the acoustic guitar as well so beautifully. This demanded skill and attention. And she seemed so alone and sad as she deeply moved our hearts. It struck me as a Lament for the vagaries of our lives - asking questions - simple questions - that impact us but have no definitive answers. Yet we must carry on: The Rainbow for Eva was Heaven. I love Eva’s Nightbird
She is another gifted artist passing away at young age. Her tone is pure and heartfelt. Every word in the lyrics she sang is convincing and true. Whenever I hear of Eva, I can't help but think about my life, her singing is a reflection of life.

"Autumn Leaves" is another one. Also I just watched her live rendition of "Bridge Over Troubled Waters" the other day. All these live performances are from the same show she did at Blues Alley Club in Jan 3 1996. Exactly 10 months later she passed away from Melanoma.

Paulie, you have my respect. Thank you for not cluttering the experience. Eva is just that...an experience. In this song, she seems to almost be pleading that such a place - a destination - is a reality. She'd not yet been diagnosed at the time of this performance, but I think she knew. Her knowledge comes out in this greatest rendition of "Over The Rainbow."
Any of her acoustic songs are powerful; there quite a few here on CZcams, thankfully, but her electric guitar accompanied songs are unbelievable, as well.

Very moving performance
I believe Eva Cassidy was given a special talent to not only move us with her singing and guitar playing, but her ability to take a song and re-write it without changing the lyrics and if you allow your soul to hear hers, you realize she is explaining that the special place above the Rainbow is a place where we will fly to to be with the Lord in the sky and be with him for Eternity

Any and everything she did is worth reacting to. Sting's Fields of Gold, classics like "WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD"," STORMY MONDAY", John Lennon's "IMAGINE". THE list goes on and on
Evas' version of Fields of Gold is much better by herself. My opinion. Sting called it the version he wished he would have done.
Paulie, I consider this one of the most epic versions of a classic song I've ever heard. This was recorded approximately 10 months before Eva passed in 1996. The tone is beautiful yet haunting. I feel a sense about what is coming for her, the emotion just palpable. The tears come every time.
If you like Eva, one of her other legendary recordings is Fields of Gold by Sting. Ironically, Angelina Jordan recorded the same song within the past couple of years. There is a mashup virtual Duo of Eva and Angelina singing Fields of Gold together! It is by BigAngiefan. I think you will be enthralled by it. Peace and love.

Blues Alley is a jazz club in DC. I went there several times during this time but was not lucky enough to catch her. She was our local girl from Oxon Hill, Maryland here. Its hard not to cry hearing this and Autumn Leaves,

One of the most ICONIC Songs in America's Catalogue, thanks to Judy Garland. Often copied it belonged to her until Iz K did his version and stole some of her thunder. Then Eva came along, put her nuances on it and OWNED it. Just recently have become aware of the writers and their story regarding the song. It's beginnings are truly worth the exploration..
Paulie, this hits me hard, and I guess it hits you the same way. This is a grownup version, and more desperately yearning than hopeful. The last line seems so inconsolable.
