  • In this video I will repair this old fishing reel. I instantly felt I love, when I got this old beauty. It has been hidden away in a barn - from maybe before WWII.
I want to make something special - something that can make up for all the years hidden away in the old barn.
I want to make it shine :-)
Sit back and enjoy the transformation.
I hope to inspire - not to teach

I have a SB 550 with the backlash, similar to yours. It's on a 5 ft. Heddon metal rod. It is fairly clean/original, but not as shiny as yours. Nice work !

You did a fantastic job cleaning and polishing that 1930 fishing reel. It looks much better than before and it works like a charm as well. Excellent work. It also looks like a Pflueger reel, doesn't it?

Thank you so much for your nice words - and yes there is a lot of similarities with the Pflueger bait wheel

Great job. You need way more line to make that cast nicely. Spool line on until you get between 1/8 and a 1/4 from the spools edge....That old reel will cast like new!

What to do you do if you find rust pitting on an item like a reel? Can you anodize as well?
    Looks top notch!

If it is only small rust pitting i would try with a metal wool sponge. Otherwise - yes you can anodize

@@fixingupoldthings7647 it's kinda bad, looks like a sand down & start from scratch. Going to do the anodized route if my tests come out positive. Otherwise probably going to use gun blue or hate to do it but a metallic spray paint hoping to hide the pits with a dremel design
