Do you have any idea who actually makes these locks?
I'm pretty sure the euros are made by the same people as the Eurospec and Mila euro cylinders.
No, I don’t know who makes them, I just know that they say made in China :-)
I bought a Smith and Locke shutter style padlock from B&Q on clearance sale when I was starting out picking, thought 2 quid cleared from 8 and what appears as a 4 pin key, that'll be totally devoid of all security pins and I'll have that open in no time at all - keeping in mind I was only just graduating off of plastic locks I'd covered in tape so I couldn't see inside. Yeah, that was an adventure the moment it popped into a very deep false set, took me a little while to truly defeat it but I was super chuffed once I did. It still sits on my desk in reach at all times, one of my go to fiddle toys. perhaps not an objectively good lock, but staying in my collection just for sentimental value, was the first time I beat spools after all

I picked up the aluminium-bodied jobbie a few weeks ago and was surprised that it wouldn't rake open. Good for the price I thought.
Those laminated locks are rather shocking, I wager you could force that core to turn with a screwdriver.
I also had a fiddle with their combo lock, seemed like it had false gates...

Definitely a mixed bag. Maybe I’ll look at their combination lock range too if this vid is popular enough :-)
I'm a novice picker and just bought the 50mm laminated lock for some basic practice.it rakes like a dream.in fact you can just invert your half hook and rake with that.surprised to see all four pins were mushrooms.
They are great locks for the novice :-)

ive found B&Q to be a bit dear for locks, the locks probably meant to be more of a deterrent, not really for security. would like to see how long they take to rake. nice honest review, pay for what you get. thanks
Genuinely, I can’t think of many padlocks I would use that are less than £20. If you spend less, you are compromising on a level of security somehow. :-)
Great video. I have 3 of these locks, 2 of which I can single pin pick easy, the other, the aluminium one I can pick very hit and miss and it is stressing me for a week now. I use the Peterson set and using the Bogota rake it opens in seconds with almost no tension but, using any of the single picks, I feel I keep oversetting pins and get it open more by luck. Peterson Gem, standard hook and deep hook... all the same results!
And just like that I take this comment back. I have rrad through all the comments and see where you advised somone you used heavy tension. I stuck on the tension quite firm, more than I have dared tension anything before and I got it open 3 times in a row with the Peterson Gem.

Thanks for the video I bought a Smith and Locke hasp and staple comes with a laminated lock. Looked inside with a torch I can see it has that plastic thing inside. It cost me £8:97 taking it back with the receipt found in the bin lol.

Nice review. The only thing surprising about the plastic core lock is they are using real spools, not the Chinese blob pins that kind of resemble spools. Really a wasted effort to put security pins in a plastic core. If they were concerned about security, they wouldn't use plastic.
It’s still nice to see all spools across the whole range, but I do agree :-)
They look nice enough and they will serve a purpose.

Awesome video, you made light work of those :p really cool to see the insides, and nice to see 4 spools, just ridiculous that they're in a plastic core! I actually think the closed shackle padlock offers good value for money if used in the right situation :) nice informative review of a good selection of the range :) as I said man, awesome video :)

I have one of these locks, I can't pick it, rock it, zip it, or rake it, I can't even shim it!
New to picking but I have other locks I can blow through in no time.
Should of put in a bit of rakeing to see how quick anything will pop.

Well, although raking can be an easy way in, I find on camera, it is woefully unpredictable when picking out of the pack. I mean, it was risky enough doing OOTP on the locks in the first place with my mediocre skills :-) I imagine that I could indeed rake these, but finding the right rake and technique for each lock would definitely take time; the spool pins and reasonable bitting might make things tough m-)
Very cool my friend nicely done some cheap locks I don't think plastic cores are always just because the Cheapskates I think they put a lot of plastic cores in laminated to say then it's weatherproof👍😊👍😊😎✌✌
If they’d used brass internals and use ball bearings on the shackle, they’d have a pretty good product :-)

They are generally cheaper than master lock over here but apart from the plastic cores I find them generally better

As cardiffpicker1 says, they are a bit cheaper then ML and for the price, maybe better for some locks. ML at least don’t use plastic cores to my knowledge :-)
That was a fantastic informational vid. Thank you for the time it took to put it together. Unfortunately the dreaded plastic is hidden in the guts... Not that the Chinesium spools are a bit of a joke.. No real edges.. Have a great one.

They do a 1 star cylinder which isn't to bad buy the cheap ones are rubbish.

Mate I bought a Smith and Locke eurocylinder from b&q which was less than £10. I sent the key deliberately off with all of our stuff when we moved back to Australia. The intention was to pick it open... Anyway I haven't been able to pick it (but I am actually a noob). It's a 6 pinner. If you've got one hanging around id love to see you attack that. Maybe I just suck (highly likely). It feels like there's a few spools or serrated pins in there. Actually a solid challenge...

regarding the plastic cores, what about straight up brute force? i imagine they'd fracture and give pretty easily compared to all metal, that's probably what a simple criminal would try first of all

I recon I’m a pretty middle-of-the-road picker - these locks had good feedback which certainly helped out :-)

Youre one of the best, i actually own all of those locks (barr the closed shackle) but find them good fun to pick when i give up on an AL or Abus etc.

Sky news alert, hours after Lock Noob uploads his youtube video review of Ultimate Smith and Locks thousands of business, vans and sheds have been broken into all over the UK by using lighters.....
bird718 when my shed was broken into, they just pulled the hasp off and left the lock alone...

you did not use bolts on the hasp? or did they cut the hasp?
bird718 it was a rubbish hasp and the used a pry bar or strong screwdriver to pull the hasp from its weld. Since been rectified. Nothing of value in there anyway, but I guess criminals just brake and enter quickly and efficiently and move on to the next target :-( that whole gentleman burglar thing is a bit of a myth really.
Awesome video, quite enjoyed that. Now I won’t have to go and buy them lol. I have picked the euros tho and are just as easy.
All depends on what ones, the very first ones were all standard pins but now they have some spools and the 1 star cylinders can sometimes put up a bit of a fight.
@@cardiffpicker1 never seen a one star l and s lock before. Are you sure that's a thing?
@@GxAxV yeah but I have only seen them in Screwfix not in b&q they are nearly twice the price of the ordinary ones because they are fire rated aswel.
8653p is the code for a 70mm thumbturn version(sad that I know that code), they are far from great but if you get one with good biting they can be a little tricky.

Plastic cores, not even Master Lock does that! I think Lock Picking Lawyer forced one open with a screwdriver once.
Scary stuff those cores :-)
Even if the plastic core was fixed, it would still have exposed and thus easily cuttable rivets.
Those rivets take some serious time to cut - shimming or breaking the lock would take seconds :-)

I would love to see that keyless lock attacked with an easily concealable torch, just to understand the time delay between attack and entry.
Also, would the melted lock core open, or jamb the lock?
I have been working with some high temp plastics recently that char rather than burn, and do it slowly.
I can't imagine this core is of that material, because i think it may cost nearly as much as brass.

BB did, but he used a 500 kbtu industrial torch with a huge tank.

I have bought a S&L 50mm combination lock. What is the 1st use code? Can't find anywhere on package so can't take it off!

That was a very interesting video bit of a surprise about plastic bible then with security pins (not the best spools) you would not of thought they would even bother to put security pins in a plastic bible as all you need to do is put a flat head in the keyway and twist, open better with no security pins and a brass bible as they say though knowledge is power, also I think you might need a new name as I think noob you are not.

You can just stick a screw driver in the keyway and force the lock open, takes but seconds.
I had one of those locks (generic Chinese item), they are absolutely ridiculous.
I hate seeing plastic internals :-)
Does anyone know of any easily available (in the US) locks with cores like these?
I would like to do a couple of tests of my own.
If I remember correctly, Lockpickinglawyer showed a Master with plastic core once.

Great review! I've picked a couple of S & L locks, so really that says it all lol. If i had to rate them, i'd rate them below Master Lock, but above similar Chinese locks. Thanks for sharing and have a good weekend.
