- Here's why the W210 Mercedes Benz E55 AMG was better than the BMW and Audi performance sedans of the same era. Better buy yours now as these original E55s are going up in value!

You can only drive one German Car and One American car. What do you pick? I'm going C6 ZR1 and E63 S Wagon.
How bout c7 zr1 and Amg gtr pro !
Agreed ..
_Totally with you on the Corvette C6 ZR1, also would have to pick any old school Mercedes-Benz like the SL500 AMG Sport my partner drives, or of course an '05/'06 SL65 AMG._
1970 Chevelle S/S and your E55😁
i'll go oppo: CTS-V wagon (with MT) and mercedes SLS!
As a w210 lover, this is the greatest CZcams video of all time.
My E55 has 230k miles 0 problemas and still going strong 💪💪
Same boat my friend , i love mines i got it for 5k
I need one
Isnt your high beam headlight wiring disintegrating
One thing to say about the W210 E55 is that without it, we wouldn't have an E39 M5. Back in those times, BMW was planning on the 540i as being its most powerful 5 series. Then Mercedes made this. BMW had to respond.
True to a point the m5 wa sin response to the supercharged v8 jag of the time
All good, then merc came back with the w211 e55 😉 much faster than e39 and even tho e60 puts out slightly more hp 475 vs 507, the m5 only puts down 380 ft/tq vs 517ft/tq out of e55. Straight up torque monster, not hard to push 600whp and over 600 ft/tq. Love my e60, but not much touches the w211 with m113k
I feel like this video was made just for me. Thank you alex
Ditto
Alex represents me too. I drive a Mercedes and a Cadillac.
100%, and for me
Always loved the blue windows and the sleeper style of these old school E55 AMG
Same both my previous E230 and my E200 had blue tinted windows cus they were avantgarde
Thanks so much for making this video! These AMGs are so under appreciated and undervalued. I bought mine stupid cheap last year for $5k (150k miles, no rust) I still can’t believe it. There is a surprising lack of content about these cars, you should get one and start making videos! Please!
1:05 blue car looks like an e92 335i!
That’s cos it is lol
Hell yeah
Yea
it is :D
I thought it was a F10 M5
YESSS IVE BEEN WAITING FOR MORE W210 AMG CONTENT ON YT! I just got mine over COVID time, absolutely mint with only 49,000 miles on it! By far one of the best AMGs ever made, I almost like it more than my w213 e63s, and the appreciation is real, I posted a photo and some one offered me $20k for it!
I honestly think of all the AMGs you've reviewed, this is the one I was waiting for and was pleasantly surprised when you posted it. A friend of mine has an E430 with the E55 99 era body kit, rims and exhaust which I'm thinking of getting. Of course E55 are the hardest to find this side of the world (Zimbabwe, Southern Africa) and I'm taking this video as my sign!
Great car! Wonderful engine for reliability. Not the most powerful but for its age and wait it's not to bad. Overall a great buy ig it's the fully loaded one then you will love it!
The stuff I work on in part retirement.
I actually had one of these 1999 E55 AMG's, Silver with Black leather interior! It was GREAT!
My C55 AMG RenTech Is even more power (same drive-train) in a smaller car! RADICAL & DEPENDABLE!
I have a 2001 e320. No rust here in Vegas! But the sun here is really hard on the paint and interior. The interior is getting shaby. With 150k miles it runs great. It is a sport model so stiffer springs. Possibly stronger v6 engine? Have to constantly fix little things like window regulators, (why did they use rivets on them?) rubber boots on the mirrors and the base of the mono wiper. Even the antena cover was missing when I bought it 2 years ago. Engine is untouched. I bought some chrome 17" 7 spoke wheels off another car from G&G Autohouse here and new tires. May be my last car since I am now 71, so have to take care of it. Love driving this car!
I’ve owned many Mercedes, a 911 and several Audi’s. My favorite car? My 1999 E430 Sport. Black like the one in the video and not an AMG but still love and miss that car. In 2007 traded it in on a new Corvette, dumbest decision in my life!!!!
Truly not smart my man. My E320 hydro plained. Loved that car. Feels presidential when cruising around.
I own a 99 E430 and a 00 E430. The "youngest" has 223K and since I bought it 6 years ago the only thing I did was replacing the ac compressor and regular maintenance (spark plugs, brakes, fluids...). I have driven from OK to Alaska and then California back home: 12k miles in one month, some days 600 miles and I never got tired of driving. That tells you how comfortable and reliable this car is.
I´ve been looking for an E55 for a long time...basically 20 years...but never had the opportuniy...who knows! Thanks Alex for showing how great is the M113 and this W210 chasis!
Just wanted to say that I just bought my first AMG, a CLS55, and I am in love with it :D
Congrats. They are sweet too.
Congrats! I'm hoping to have my AMG soon!
Buffy i have one of the rarest CLS55's in the world (mystic/porcelain on titanit performance package), and i gotta say, this beast is made to be looked at
Aziz Chemli Oh nice! Mine is Mystic Blue with Porcelain :)
@@azizchemli2526 I would like to see that!
I almost drowned my phone with the amount of drool over this vehicle
Sounds like me. My first love was Corvettes, never knew I'd end up in a luxo Benz freeway bomber! (06 E55)
Yep I got a cls55amg, 4.2 0-60 ,stock,and can crank up the supercharger to 750hp.
A year later I'm revisiting this video. I still want an e55 as long as it isn't toooo terrible to fix on my own
YES!! I currently own 2 of these bad boys and at one time had 3 at once. End of an era car. The Best or Nothing!!!
Same deal here GL 63 and CL 63,dream comes true 👌
Would you sell one for a e55 w211
@@skythor7368 i wouldn't man. I like the simplicity and older look.
What’s the deal with the rust in your opinion? Is there something you can do to prevent it or fix it before it gets bad? I live in NJ so our roads are definitely getting salted every winter.
@@hayksamvelyan Treat it good and wash it everyday and polish it frequently in winter 😁 some just dont give a shit and dont treat them well. They are strong cars but you have to protect them in return.
How many miles can these cars go, like 400,000?
I had a great 97 E420 that I drove for 5 years. Excellent car and fairly quick. Yet to see more comfortable seats
Went to the dealership a few months ago to get coolant & parked next to a pre facelift black on black. Seriously wanted to cry knowing that it probably goes for less than my 2010 e350 coupe. I really hope they're all not wrecked, crushed, or insanely appreciated by the time I can get my hands on one, or any real amg for that matter.
Great video. I just bought this same car 90k miles for $4,800! Yes it's pretty clapped out but no rust and runs great, just needs some TLC.
I just sold my 2002 CLK55 AMG cabriolet with 120k for $4,400. Great car.
My step father brought home a brand new 2001 E430 when I was a young chap. I’ve loved the W210 ever since, especially the E55. I used to steal my step dads car at 2am and go do doughnuts with my friends. Ahh the days of being an edgy teen.
The car was eventually passed down to my step brother who absolutely trashed the thing and it still went 300K miles. They’re such solid cars. One of my favorite parts was the gauges; they’re old school enough to be reminiscent of the classic 80’s Mercedes font without making the interior feel dated.
So awesome that the W210 E55 AMG is getting love on your page! I have a 2000. The refreshed ones still have a clutch fan. At least mine does.
My 02 still has a clutch fan, just replaced still loud as hell
Absolutely timeless. My favorite E-Class AMG car without a doubt.
Been a while since I’ve caught a notification! But I’m still a fan Alex. Been one for a looooonnng time. Still love all your vids !! Beware of samcrac and rich rebuilds. 😁😁👍🏻
I'm loving all this w210 love in the comments. I feel like I have found my people.
my 2001 has over 200k miles and ive driven it Massachusetts to Florida and back 3 times in the last 6 months. not 1 problem or issue and about 23 24 mpg on the 1400 mile drive
Recently bought an '05 C55 because of your channel. Bought it from a guy who'd gotten it because of your channel. Love the car, love the channel. Thanks for the consistently good content.
Alex my folks used to own a facelift 2000 W210 E430. It wasn't a 55 but it was soo much fun. It produced 400nm of torque at 2,000rpm, all the way to 4,500 i think from memory. It had so much grunt everywhere that it could make you car sick if you were heavy on the throttle. Arguably the W210 is the last of the "real" old school Mercs. I miss that car.
Keep up the good work Alex, this E55 is my favorite car to have.! Hopefully I find a nice one soon in the Netherlands or Germany .!
Wait! Another E55 wagon that has yet to be revealed? Hell yeah Alex. A green, over black or grey, E55 AMG wagon would be my absolute dream car. That 99 looks so perfect riding on those monoblocs. Love the stock wheels you went back to on your E55 wagon too.
I didn't know these were so rare, 2500 over 4 years? Wow. Someone in my neighborhood has one of these, a post-facelift W210 E55 AMG. Black. It sounds gnarly!
Great Vid. Now I want to find out more about that mint looking Jeep XJ in the background. That's a beauty.
Can't wait to buy my e55amg and cls55amg coming Christmas 🤗 ... His and hers ... thanks alot Alex for all ur input and knowledge ...always look forward to ur videos just amazing 👏
Just bought a 02 W210 E55 last year and absolutely love it. It’s the cleanest one I’ve ever seen, silver on black. I do think the 99 model year is the best looking especially lowered but do hate the tail lights and have always hated that tuxedo interior of any color. Cool video once again.
Alex, I’m going for the 6 speed swap on the C55 if you’re interested, documenting the whole process on my channel 😎👍 thx for all the DIY help and inspiration over the years! Btw this E55 is BOSS!!!
I have a 2002 non AMG E320 with 260 thousand miles on it and the motor and trany are still really fresh and strong. Amazing car, great ride, loads of power, bullet proof with really cool 'almost' retro style now. Really enjoyed your video. Thanks.
Thanks for the preview on the new LSC vehicles!! Looks like there's a lot of fun ti be had!!
My wife made me stop at car #5.....you are a lucky dude with an awesome wife!!!!
Perfect AMG car. Love that Designo interior. Wish I could afford this one when it's done. Just bookmarked their page, maybe if I sell a few toys!
I think you are absolutely right, the m113 is awesome. I own both a 2016 AMG GTs as well as a 2005 SLK 55, and the SLK just feels more direct and like it has more torque. Love the GTs, but will keep the SLK for sure.
Thanks Alex, great video.
I bought one only last month, Silver 1999 full black interior. They are very rare here in Ireland. Mine has 65k miles, tiny bit of rust but in prefect condition. Cost €10k.
One of my favorite AMG E Classes.. glad you showcased this one. It looks very clean
You should make a video of the w203 c32 amg so I can have an easier time selling mine 😅 great video as always!
You need to turn that Chevy caprice ppv into a HSV Grange. That will make it into a real head turner....
Ah ,so true .
My 02 E55 has nearly 400k miles and monoblocks are pristine.. true classic. So many great features about it. It was truly ahead of it's time. It had a built in cell phone with voice commands and hands free calling, years before anyone. Plus the infused blue glass hits like the green crystal on a Rolex Milgauss. Did I mention parts are fairly cheap? Get one while you can.
400k, I will be there in a few years any mods?
@@paraniaa08 Straight piped, smoked LED tails (stock look), w211 style headlights, interior is original, but I've been thinking of replacing the head unit (something modern with BT Android Auto). Mechanically everything is original other than head gaskets and plugs.
My only modification is Head unit with bluetooth. I bought vogtland springs and returned them because I feel I will loose the ride comfort.
Motor Trend and Road and Track were my 2 favorite automotive information sources back in the 90s and early 2000s. I used to love reading the magazines as a kid. Too bad to see them fall to what they have become.
doug demuro approves of this video
just one found a 03 e 55 with same interior in good condition 65k miles and one owner, very tempting...
I love that car! I had a '97 E420, the last of the M119 V8 in the E-class at least. I regret letting that car go. I drove it NY-CA five times with zero problems. Great highway cruiser. Mine had no rust, but awful paint, being from CA. I'd love to hear your take on the m119, if you haven't covered it already.
+1 as I own E420 W210
I love the 210 chassis so much! I've got 2! I'm in the works of making a USDM OM606 S210!
Alex, great video! I would love to see you go crazy on modifying on of these w210s.
Yep I still regret selling my ‘00 W210 E55. Last of its kind - hand finished off production line AMG vehicle.
My favorite AMG I've ever owned - not the fastest, not the most powerful but the lightest, simplest and a rare car that is more than the sum of it's parts. Mine had the center resonator removed and was in Brilliant silver, and whilst yes an E550 W211 is faster, however I rather the E55 to my W211 E63. Also I replaced the clutch fan with an electric one from a 2001 E320. Had mine to 200k miles and was still running the 1/4 mile at 13.7, not a world beater but it felt great. My Michelin Pilot Super Sports last a massive 7k miles lol
Sold my black/black pre-update last year and I have to say this video deepens my sense of loss.
Hey Alex, great video on a rare AMG. Did you know that only 1,517 W209 CLK55 AMG coupes were imported into the US? That too is a rare, quick NA M113 AMG worthy of consideration. It was the F1 safety car in 2003. My favorite feature is the lack of a B pillar which allows an open airy expanse when the windows are rolled down. I'm on my second one, the first being totaled by an inattentive driver plowing into my SO....not her fault. Sadly, one less example, but the rarity goes up.
I was wondering why the e55 I have been seeing for sale went from $3-5k to $9-12k in the past few months. Thanks Alex! haha.
He did that with the w210 and the w211 now. 211 was 8-10 until LEGIT STREET CARS hit CZcams. Now they go for 20
So many goodies to reveal ... anxiously waiting for them all!!
Before I started watching your channel I never gave a Benz a second look but since I'v been watching I can definitely see the attraction now with your AMG models. Always been a Chevy guy myself... until now ;-)
Now I see why your automotive content is one of the few I can tolerate on here. We have very much in common. I never gave Merc’s a look when I was 16, and my first car was an L98 Corvettte. I then got into LC2 powered Grand National’s, but did have an opportunity to drive a Merc and really appreciated the engineering and quality of the vehicle. I thought to myself it was one of the best engineered and driving vehicles I had been in (a W124 300E) and knew one would be in my future. I then bought a 1992 LT5 ZR-1 ~1995 when I was at an age when I really didn’t need it, but wanted one since I heard of them (I was 19 at the time and just out of high school). Then a few years later sold it and got a 1997 C5 when it was released. Ironically I read the same Motor Trend article you posted at work and it peaked my interest. Having a soft spot for the W210 since I first saw one on the road in 1996, and started looking for one around 2002 to purchase, I could not find one with the options I wanted. I then noticed the E55 in 1999 had nearly all options standard, and that was a plus for me. I drove (alone no less) ~200 miles to look at one in Atlanta that was for sale, with no intent on purchasing that day. When I drove it and pulled out of the dealers parking lot onto the road and saw the flashing triangle without even trying, I had a feeling I may be driving it home. After getting a late lunch, I drove it back to the dealer and an hour later was one my way home, in an E55. I left my 5.0 Explorer at the dealer and said I will be back to pick it up in a week or two. Much like yourself, I have many Mercs now, and and still a 1987 Grand National. I purchased Star Diagnosis (now Xentry of course) several years ago and a subscription to it and diagnose and code/program control module for independents in the area, and has become a second job for me. These cars really have so much in common with American muscle and what appeals to me with domestic vehicles (front engine, RWD, and an engine that puts out too much power to put it all to the pavement) no wonder they are beginning to catch on to traditional American muscle car enthusiasts!
Finally a car i can relate to. I currently own a W210 benz. Nice one Alex!
In W210 you can hear how rust eating this car. The best option to nerve owner of W210 is break his tire, then he must lift up the car with the jack, in most of them you will see how jack is penetrating a car floor. But i love this model and personally got two W210, one diesel and one petrol. Now looking for E55. I love body line in this car and interior with wooden trims, best from Europe!
Wow ! Thats my old grey e55! I sold it 3 months ago to a guy in Chicago
Dude awesome video, I've have 2000 e430 sport and absolutely love it 😀
I am definitely going to be watching every move this car makes I live on the far south side #Go Sox Da bulls Love your channel Love your work me and my son enjoy watching you thanks for the great videos I will be chasing this car when you put it up for sale👌
The tiptronic feature is actually pretty good at keeping the trans from upshifting while cornering. My uncle had a 2001 in silver....what a great car.
The tiptronic ones are 5g-tronic (5 speeds 3,4 and 5 with lockup and 2 reverse gears) this one is 4g-tronic
I have a '99 E55 in brilliant silver. The last year they hand built them before turning to assembly line production. Also, delete the secondary cats and resonator...sounds much better and weighs 100lbs less. Tint those windows on that black one too!
I’m about to go see and rest drive one today! Can’t wait, if I don’t want it I’ll comment back tonight! It’s a great buy here in Chicago
I own a W210 2001 E55. Bought it for $8,000 with 89k miles 2 years ago. The acceleration still amazes me and 70 to 110 is incredible.
Proud to say that this was my first car in high school!!!
Alex..In your closing comments,it looks like the futuristic garage of LegitStreetCars..nice AMG and thanks for interesting video
Great video, what’s up on some w208 content? Another sleeper/bargain AMG
My Dad had one back in 1999. I never got to drive it but I enjoyed washing it lol
Great video Alex! Even though I own a beautiful 92 190e that I’ve had for 14 years the E55 AMG 99-02 is my favorite Mercedes of that era!🐟
I special ordered a 2002 E55 AMG sold it and regretted it with passion, Damn I want to cry.
There is a CZcamsr named Jikjakz how did a manual swap on the w210 e55 AMG (he also released a guide). I'm planing on doing it to my future w210 e55 and I can't wait to😄
I’m doing a 6 speed swap on my C55 on my channel if interested, Jikjakz build helped A LOT!
Have a 98 E300 TD.
An E55 would be a very very nice addition. :)
More Benz Vids the better Alex ! Although I will admit your new Escalade is sweeeeeet!
Just bought a 2001 from Schomp in Highlands Ranch, CO with 136,000 miles, all original, tiny bit of rust on rear wheel well, interior is about 95%, completely clean carfax report with all service records... for $6,800. It was a trade in that had just gone on sale and I have no idea why they were asking nearly half of what they could have gotten for it. Everything about it checks out. God must have wanted me to have one.
My dad has an 01 E55 and let me tell you! That turned me into an AMG believer. He does regular maintenance and has never had any major mechanical failures/issues. He's always been a MB fan, and I'm a BMW fan. It was a fun day when we lined up. I have an E39 M5 so I felt like we did a blast from the past! "One day, you'll get it, I'll never sell this car."
Hey I was watching your video and realized you and John Ross from Watchjrgo might be the same person.....has anyone seen you guys in the same video......😁 Great video as always!
These have some nice features for a late 90's car, mine was deliberately ordered in a pretty basic form, no sun roof, standard headlamps etc, but it still has cruise control, auto wipers, auto dipping mirrors, dual zone climate control, cooled centre console, and heat reflecting glass amongst other things. Funnily enough Jay Leno who also worked at a dealer that sold Mercedes cars also has one of these in his collection, I have the estate version which I don't think you got in the US, very practical apart from the appetite for fuel and tyres.
My friend just sold a 2001-2 C200 kompresor.. Actually few problems daily driven car with over 600k km on clock crazy engines!!
Amazing..
Please more videos on this!😍
Just purchased an E55 in New Zealand and I have to say its worth every penny!!! Amazing machine that a lot of people have completely forgotten. And its a very simple car that is easy to DIY!
I have a 2001 Mercedes Benz S55 AMG which is very similar to the E55. Its a very nice looking car.
Wow that car is dialled in! Love the paint and wheels. Super cool.
Let me come help you with that 335! I live about 2 hours away! Very knowledgeable on the platform, currently have a upgraded turbos and full flex fuel conversion on my 135i.
I had my E55 for almost 5 years and besides basic maintenance and an $80 radiator fan never had an issue. Mine was a 2002 with about 150k miles, all stock and it's the car I miss the most since I sold it in 2011.
Thanks for so many interesting videos. I own a now elderly E350 W211 (but only 110,000 km driven and well pampered mechanically). To see your choice of the E-Class makes me feel great about mine :-)
Hey Alex I just purchased a 2001 ML 55 amg would love to see a video like this with the w163 chasis
Great cars. In this AMG the headliner has started sagging.
Not long ago I sold my W210 270CDI.
Hi mate, i love your videos!!! I can turn on Manual Mode on EGS52 Transmision unit, Agility mode also aviable. Lockup on all gears like in amg cars :) I can reach shift RPM when WOT, disable kickdowns, change speed when car shifting, diferencial gear ratio change... Need only Ktag read of your TCU
Alex, I'm disappointed you didn't demonstrate the classic Mercedes door latch ka-chunk sound. Probably the best part of those cars for me.
Alex anyway to get a list of what Mercedes actually does on a B service.Love your vids probably couldn’t afford a Mercedes if it wasn’t for them, keep up the good work
I had a 2000 E55. It was definitely faster than 5.2 0-60mph
Helped my parents import a '98 E200 Kompressor (186 hp) 5-spd to Canada from Portugal around 2015. It was not being driven much over there, since we also have a W123 there. Great car and more special than my W212 E350 although I really love that one too. To those reading, do your research, so you end up with one of the good models and this channel you're in the right place.
This video speaks to me. I have always loved Corvette's and even own a 72 Corvette in which I am putting 90% of a 1996 Corvette powertrain and suspension/brakes/steering into the 72. Bought an 07 CLS550 with the AMG package and have fallen in love with. I still love my Corvette, but the Mercedes has lots of tech features that I use daily. I will never hate Corvette as they hold their own for a price way cheaper than most Italian super cars can.
