    I've been drawing as a hobby for years wondering why my drawings never turned out as good other people's. You just blew my mind with the complimentary color trick. I've been using black and grey wondering why it always turned out so ugly!

    Exactly what I looked for! It's a big mood for my drawings to look cool before adding colours and then turning out like a drawing 5-yr old could do (monochrome was literally an only option then) so thanks a lot!

    Even more fabulous tips. One from my world….I sharpen my pencils with a scalpel. Makes the point extremely sharp when you need it, you waste less pencil if you do it correctly, and it gives a great surface that helps pack the pigment in. Make sure you use a whetstone on your scalpel, or you could do even better and get a flint scalpel. I make my own every once in a while with flint from our property.
    Cheers! 🍻

    Hey, I'm usually graphite artist and I've been putting the thought of purchasing coloured pencils on and off for years but finally I've decided to purchase a good pack and whilst I've been waiting for them to arrive, I've gotten anxious coz i keep thinking I might not be up for it and the number one cause for this lingering thought was knowing how to achieve realism with them based off of a limited palette and it kind of makes me wish I would dive into digital art sooner coz duh you get unlimited colours and textures and what not. But this video has seriously helped me and i absolutely can't wait for them to arrive now! This video was exactly what i needed! Thank you!!

    • @RTIFEX
      @RTIFEX  Před rokem +3

      I'd be just as anxious as you as I wait for my new art supplies to arrive. 😆 Even cheaper sets are great to get started with, and there are many benefits to using physical materials instead of digital applications when starting your art journey: you learn how to mix colors to create new ones, you have more finite control with the various hand positions when using your materials, and you learn different techniques like burnishing. I'm happy to hear this video helped you!

    Great tip but how do I know where to shade and highlight?

    • @RTIFEX
      @RTIFEX  Před rokem +6

      Good question! I like to start with the brightest areas of the artwork first and color layers to build up shades. A helpful way to tell where highlights (and shades) are, at a high level, is to squint while looking at your reference. This blurs the reference and makes the brightest and darkest areas stand out. Find the light areas and start there, then layer your shading around those shapes. Just remember to keep comparing your art with your reference throughout.
      With this squinting trick, you can also lightly draw shapes for the major highlighted and shaded areas, then use them as guides as you shade.
