Hi, I’m Max an engineer at tameson and today we’re going to talk about camlock couplings.
A camlock fitting also called a cam and groove coupling is used to connect two hoses or pipes so that the medium can be transferred. The main advantage of camlock couplings over other couplings is their connection process. It is easy, requires no tools, has no threads, and is secure. This, together with their relatively low cost makes them very popular couplings.
Camlock couplings are lever arm-type couplings. The coupling plugs are pushed into the coupling socket and to connect the two levers need to be simultaneously closed. This ensures that the grooved plug is consistently pushed down onto the seal, guaranteeing a leak-proof assembly.
This connection and disconnection process is quick, making them suitable for applications that require frequent hose changes, such as petroleum and trucking applications. In addition, since they have no threads they can be used for dirty environments. This makes the camlock coupling incredibly versatile.
Additionally, the sealings of the couplings are replaceable. This increases the service life of the coupling. Camlock couplings are available in different materials such as stainless steel, polypropylene, brass, and aluminum with different types of seals such as NBR, EPDM, CSM, and Teflon The large range of materials allows our camlock couplings to be used in a wide array of applications.
Camlock couplings come in various types. The types refer to if they are coupling or plug and then what the other connection style is.
Most camlock couplings adhere to either US or EU standards. If the camlock coupling is manufactured according to a standard, it allows them to be interchangeable between manufacturers. However, quality still needs to be assessed between manufacturers for compatibility.
