The major difference is in the impact resistance and in real life a fresh pair of oakley is amazing in clarity, sharpness and very low distortion. Look up some of the accidents with fauxkley and you'll see the results. Personally I hope I never have that hard of an accident but if I do I would rather not have shrapnel added to the equation. My eyes are worth $250

The problem with the losing/scratching glasses vs losing/scratching smartphone analogy is that you can't buy a $15 phone that is 95% as good as an iPhone. If you could, I assume many people would buy the cheap one.

Experience has taught me to buy reputable brand products, every time I have cheaped out I just end up buying the better quality product in the end. People also have to balance quality with what they can afford but it's been my experience it's better to hold off on a purchase to save up the extra cost than just buying the cheaper product to have it a few weeks sooner.

I agree with you on this, I've found that genuine Oakley lenses are more thicker than fake, and they also get tested for impact protection. I'd say not cheapen on protection regarding your eyes and your skull. AliExpress is littered with a bunch of replica helmets that just doesn't protect in case of an impact.

Had a pair of Oakley Racing Jackets with Oakley prescription lenses, did the ultimate test blacked out sprinting and slid along a wet road on my face. Destroyed the glasses, but no damage from glasses to me. Had a few foakleys which I could swap the real lenses into, each lasted 3 to 6 months of normal use and bits would break. The Oakleys almost 2 years.. My only issues was how easily scratched the Oakley lenses in normal use compared to my regular glasses which I wore for 15 hours a day on average compared to an hour or two for the Oakleys. If I could afford a new set of prescription Oakleys every year (or more often), I would. Currently riding a lesser brand with custom prescription lenses, cost me about half that of Oakleys and they look to last two years without the same level of scratchibg.

Just a weigh in even though this video is a little old. One big flaw in your review and almost every review out their is the perspective of the review. They are always focused on the immediate ability of sight. What about in motion. This is where Prizm lenses wins without you even being aware of it most of the time. Not only do they give you more defined edges for contrast......but when your on your bike or in a car driving because prison lenses not only gives slightly better definition .....the focal point isn't distorted between your two eyes not shifting a object from eye to eye that your brain has to correct for and because of this give you better reflexes due to better depth perception which is immediately noticeable when mountain biking on trails and passing through beams of sunlight on trails. this benefit is always there for you no matter the sport or activity.

Hey Chris, I tested my foakleys and they were not UV proof. You can buy a cheap UV torch on amazon for a few quid and shine the torch through the lens, put a new £ 5/10/20 behind the lens - you'll see the UV reflective strip of the banknote. If you put a fully UV blocking lens between the torch and the note, you won't see the reflective strip. Unfortunately all the cheap knockoffs I've seen have failed this test, while the genuine oakleys/ray bans I have block all the UV. While some fakes out there will block UV - many will not and taking it as a fact that yours do without testing isn't a good idea.
