I am in my thirties and enjoy it as well. I get the impression the spirit was so different back in these days. But music (like this and classical music, which is timeless for me) helps. I never enjoyed the music that was played in clubs when I was in my student time, it lacks heart and soul.

This was the music people could whistle to. Don't hear anyone whistling these days. Technicians took over. Recording today is much too polished, but empty. In the 60's Leon Kelner & his orchestra used to broadcast live from The Blue Room in pre-flood New Orleans. Parquet dance floor, Julie London, The Mills Brothers, John Gary & The New Christie Minstrels were all there. It was a great time. After a New York steak & a bottle of Lancers Crackling Rose, an Irish Coffee & a cigar topped off the meal. This was before the extensive renovations. Anyway... Great listening music. Thanks so much.

I think of the Little Rascals and their variety shows when the kids sang and danced.
I just love them! They give me peace. I love those times where life was slower and not so rushed and crazy as it has become lately, well, before the coronavirus. In fact, if not for the poor people who get sick and suffer and those who die, if not for them, I would say it is so nice. Of course, it is not, because of them, poor things. But for those, who have not contracted the illness and have now a simpler slower life it is nice. These songs are like a lullaby they just rock me into this lovely easy mood. Thank you.

Very enjoyable and nostalgic. Noel Coward was very talented. He had a great singing voice and was a great actor of his age.
I knew I'd remembered hearing a song that said "You're a Sweetheart, if there ever was one.." but never heard evidence that I wasn't dreaming. Now, I hear it...vindicated at last. Thank you.
What I've been hearing since this comment, was the sound track from Alice Faye from a 30s film. She was only about 17 when she sang this and danced with George Murphy. Delightful!
I have a record of Marlene Dietrich. Let's be honest: she wasn't the best singer. Still I am absolutely enchanted whenever I hear her sing. She creates this magical atmosphere, it's quite wonderful. Big fan.
For Marlene, she began her career in German cabaret and her act was what sold her and her voice. Also, her talking style was the Thing in pre war German cabaret e.g. Greta Keller et al.
hahahahahaha, I hope you managed to get all that wax out of your ears, Liam. Marlene had a beautiful voice right up until she passed away in '92.

I love the 30's--the music and the culture of that time. So unassuming and take me for what I am. No great expectations. The Great Depression has leveled us to unprecedented lows in our financial and every day lives. But we can, thru our musical culture, have expectations that will carry us thru this malady that has attempted to bring us down!! We will never give up!!!!
Well, ou forebears wholived through the Gt. Depression are mostly gone and it hasn't really impacted us. Even me! Wow! But this is the sound of that era, a time when there were actually composers of music that can be listened to and sung, even. Go for it, Carol!
